PGA U.S. Open Best Matchups to Wager
Justin Thomas -120 vs Matt Fitzpatrick -110
Fitzpatrick and Thomas appear to have turned around their form.
The -110 slight underdog in this matchup finished a tied fifth at the Memorial a tournament after missing the cut at the PGA Championship.
JT finished thirty-third at the Memorial.
At the PGA Championship, Thomas finished a fantastic eighth. Since this is a major, we must assume JT steps it up.
U.S. Open Matchup Pick: Justin Thomas
Patrick Cantlay -115 vs Tony Finau -115
Cantlay’s form has gone south in a hurry.
Since a third at the RBC Heritage, Cantlay hasn’t been nearly as sharp as he usually is.
Cantlay missed the cut at the Memorial, which came on the heels of a thirty-third at the PGA Championship.
Tony Finau should have a fantastic U.S. Open.
Finau finished eighteenth at the PGA Championship, seventeenth at the Charles Schwab Challenge, and eighth at the Memorial. Give Finau the nod.
U.S. Open Matchup Pick: Tony Finau
Cameron Young -115 vs Jason Day -115
Young isn’t shooting well.
Cameron finished sixty-third at the PGA Championship, missed the cut at the RBC Heritage, and then finished fiftieth last week at the Memorial.
Jason Day is playing better. Day hasn’t missed a cut in recent tournaments.
He even scored a nice fourth place finish at the Wells Fargo. JD gets the call.
U.S. Open Matchup Pick: Jason Day
Phil Mickelson -110 vs Tiger Woods -120
The most classic of golf matchups offers decent odds on both Tiger and Lefty.
Mickelson finished a tied forty-third at the Masters but missed the cut at the PGA Championship.
Tiger says he feels strong enough to win the U.S. Open.
But the forty-eight year old has played in 3 tournaments this year, withdrawing from the Genesis Invitational, finishing sixtieth at the Masters, and missing the cut at the PGA Championship.
Lefty wins this matchup.
U.S. Open Matchup Pick: Phil Mickelson
Bryson DeChambeau +110 vs Rory McIlroy -140
The odds on DeChambeau make him an overlay.
Sure, Bryson hasn’t played great at recent LIV Masters tournaments.
Those tournaments are just three rounds, though, while PGA tournaments are four rounds.
The extra round gives Bryson a chance to not only beat McIlroy but win the U.S. Open.
DeChambeau followed up a tied sixth at the Masters with a second at the PGA Championship. Bryson beats Rory.
U.S. Open Matchup Pick: Bryson DeChambeau

PGA Tour 2023 US Open Betting Analysis for the Best Matchups to Wager On
Previous Betting News
The week of the third major is upon us, with the best golfers on the planet heading to the Los Angeles Country Club for the 2023 U.S. Open. The 123rd playing of the major tournament takes place for the first time at this venue and the third time in the state of California over the last five years. Tournament play begins on Thursday, June 15th, and the four-day, stroke play event concludes on Sunday, June 18th.
One of the many ways to wager on the major tournament is head-to-head matchups. These matchups can be played round to round or over the course of the entire tournament.
We take a look below at some of the best matchups to play for this week’s tournament as the first round nears. It’s time to take a closer look at our US Open betting analysis so you can get all set to bet against the PGA Tour Odds.

Tyrell Hatton vs. Matt Fitzpatrick
A battle between two of England’s best, Fitzpatrick comes to LACC looking to defend his U.S. Open title. Hatton has been quietly one of the most consistent golfers on Tour this season, finishing top 20 or better in his last six events.
Fitzpatrick will be inundated with defending champion obligations heading up to Thursday’s start, and that time could deter the focus of the 28-year-old. Hatton is peaking at the right time and we like the 31-year-old to finish higher on the leaderboard this week than his fellow countryman.
Patrick Cantlay vs. Viktor Hovland
These two should both be in contention on Sunday with a shot at their first major victory. Cantlay has played well this season in the majors, finishing T14 at Augusta and T9 last month at the PGA Championship. Hovland comes to L.A. after winning the Memorial Tournament two weeks ago at Jack’s Place and has a T7 at the Masters and T2 at the PGA Championship already this year.
The games of both players fit a U.S. Open layout which is why they are considered pre-tournament favorites. If we had to give the edge it would be to Cantlay, who has been the better putter so far this season. Cantlay has back-to-back finishes at the U.S. Open of T15 and T14, so the 31-year-old has the pedigree to outpace Hovland this week.
Scottie Scheffler vs. Jon Rahm
The top two players in the world are naturally the top two betting favorites heading into the opening round of play. Scheffler has been outworldly this season, with 12 top-10 finishes in 16 events highlighted by a T5 or better in his last four outings. Rahm has four wins this season, including a Masters title for his second major win.
Rahm’s statistics are consistent, with very few flaws in his current game. Scheffler is no. 1 in every important category but putting, where the 26-year-old is an astonishing 148th on tour. If Scheffler can clean up the flatstick, which we expect he will, look for former Texas Longhorn to win his second major title and hand Rahm a head-to-head loss.
