Top US Open Round 1 Matchups for PGA Tour US Open Odds (And Potential Wins!)

The roar of the crowd and the thrill of the chase – the 2024 US Open is here! Based on last year’s surprising victory by Wyndham Clark, this year, Pinehurst No. 2 will be the stage for another unforgettable championship.

For fans looking to add an extra layer of excitement, here’s a breakdown of the top US Open matchups to consider when exploring PGA Tour US Open odds.

2024 United States Open Championship | 124th edition of the U.S. Open, the national open golf championship of the United States
PGA Tour tournament | PGA of America
Thursday, June 13th – Sunday, June 16th, 2024
Pinehurst Resort, Course No. 2 | Pinehurst, North Carolina
Defending Champion: Wyndham Clark

US Open 1st Round Begins

With a wide-open field and the notoriously demanding Pinehurst layout, every shot matters.

Before we delve into the matchups that could define the tournament, let’s remember – anything can happen at the US Open!

Analyzing these key clashes can help you make informed decisions when exploring the PGA Tour US Open odds and potentially score big.

1st Round: Dustin Johnson -120 over Drew Burmester

This seems like it should not be -120.

Johnson obviously has the history and talent over Burmester.

But, the veteran Johnson has not played great golf as of late.

But, for the first day at the US Open, we expect Johnson to bounce back and be solid.

The first betting matchup we suggest you take is Dustin Johnson over Drew Burmester in the first round.

PGA 1st Round Pick: Dustin Johnson

1st Round: Justin Thomas -120 over Matt Fitzpatrick

If anything is going to wake Justin Thomas and light his fire for the game of golf again it is the US Open.

Thomas is a small favorite to have a better first round than Matt Fitzpatrick.

While Fitzpatrick is talented, Justin Thomas is a sneaky pick of many to come away with a title in this one.

He is a big underdog overall, but he is well worth the small juice to bet him in the first round.

PGA 1st Round Pick: Justin Thomas

1st Round: Jason Day -115 over Cam Young

Two talented golfers. Both at -115.

We have a feeling Day is going to find his way near the top of the leaderboard for the entirety of this event.

That means he is starting right away with a strong day 1 performance.

This is more about how much we like Jason Day than it is not liking Cam Young. Cam Young is a talented golfer.

Take Day to beat Young on Thursday and springboard near the top of the leaderboard.

PGA 1st Round Pick: Jason Day

1st Round: Jordan Spieth -110 over Tyrell Hatton

Hatton is the favorite at -120 to beat Spieth on Thursday.

Spieth has been there and done that when it comes to the US Open.

Look for him to start strong, and Hatton to just kind of linger.

This is not a bet for the full four days, but after round 1, Jordan Spieth is leading Tyrell Hatton.

We like Spieth at -110.

PGA 1st Round Pick: Jordan Spieth

Bryson DeChambeau +110 over Rory Mcllroy

We have a bad feeling about Rory this week.

Questioning his motivation and his head space right now.

DeChambeau is always ready for a big time event, and is going to get off to a great start.

Bryson would love to be in the mix as Saturday and Sunday arrives.

The best way of doing that is getting off to a blistering start on Day 1.

That’s what happens here as DeChambeau and his +110 beat Mcllroy on Day 1 of the event.

PGA 1st Round Pick: Bryson DeChambeau

PGA Tour 2021 US Open Betting Update: Day One Recap

Previous Betting News

The 121st playing of the U.S. Open teed off Thursday morning at the South Course at Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, CA. This is the second time the USGA has brought the U.S. Open to Torrey, with its first stop in 2008.

The play was delayed for just over about ninety minutes due to a thick marine layer that reduced visibility, so players were late to get out to the course on time. A handful of players were unable to finish their first round and will attempt to wrap it up Friday morning. Let’s take a look at our latest US Open update so you can keep betting against their US Open odds.

Day One Rundown – Updated 2021 US Open Betting Analysis

Henley Leads Morning Wave

Three-time PGA winner Russell Henley posted the low score of the morning wave with a 4-under 67. Henley, whose best finish at a U.S. Open, was a T16 in 2010 as an amateur.

Henley had three birdies on the front and back, along with a bogey on each side of the card. The 32-year old hadn’t played Torrey Pines since shooting a 79 on the South Course at the Farmers Insurance Open in 2014.

Bogey Free Opener for Cabrera-Bello

Spanish golfer Rafa Cabrera-Bello was the only golfer in the morning wave to shoot a bogey-free round of golf on Thursday. The 37-year old birdied the second and eagled the 18th for a 3-under round.

Cabrera-Bello has never won on the PGA Tour but has three European Tour victories. This is Cabrera-Bello’s eighth U.S. Open, with his best finish coming last year with a T23 at Winged Foot.

Mickelson Struggles on Day One

The PGA Champion and oldest professional golfer to win a major struggled one day, posting a 4-over, 75. Mickelson collected just one birdie on the card and failed to take advantage of the three par-5s, playing them at one-over.

Mickelson, who lives in nearby San Diego, was one of the betting favorites to win the U.S. Open. A victory for Lefty would complete the career grand slam for the 50-year old Hall of Famer.

Koepka, Schauffele Impressive In Opening Round

Two-time U.S. Open champion Brooks Koepka opened with a 3-under on his first nine holes, getting to 4-under on the back before a pair of bogeys down the closing stretch put him a 2-under after 18. The U.S. Open isn’t won on Thursday, and Koepka put himself in a great position heading into round two.

Xander Schauffele is searching for his first major victory, and many looked at him as a likely candidate to win here this week. The 27-year old tallied four birdies over his first nine holes to jump out into red figures early.

DeChambeau Up and Down in Round One

Bryson DeChambeau, the defending U.S. Open champion, was part of the afternoon wave that could not complete the first round. The bomber got through a majority of the holes with an up and down performance that included three bogeys and two birdies on the front nine.

DeChambeau began his second nine with back-to-back bogeys on 11 and 12 to fall into a tie for 84th with six holes remaining in his first round.
