Defending Champion: Wyndham Clark
Next US Open PGA
The 2024 US Open is set to take place on Thursday from Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst North Carolina.
This will be the 124th event. The course is a par 70, more than 7,500 yards.
Wyndham Clark is the defending champion, as he beat Rory Mcllroy in Los Angeles a season ago.
The last player to go back to back in the event was Brooks Koepka.
While the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy command respect as favorites based on their recent form and pedigree, the US Open often throws surprises into the mix.
He did it in 2017 and 2018. Before that, Curtis Strange did it in 1998 and 1999.
Jack Nicklaus, Willie Anderson, Bobby Jones and Ben Hogan have the most titles, with 4, while Hale Irwin is next with 3, but his last one coming in 1990.
Let’s take a look at the US Open Favorites, Contenders and Longshots for the 2024 event.
US Open Favorites
Here are the betting favorites to win the 2024 US Open:
Scottie Scheffler +300
All the guy does is win.
He just won $4M for winning the Memorial Tournament.
He won the RBC Heritage in April, along with the Masters. He is simply the best player in the world right now.
He is doing everything well, but his proximity to the hole at 34 feet, and his strokes gained tee to green have been ultra impressive.
It is Scheffler’s to lose.
He starts the event at 3/1 odds to take it down.
Betting Scottie Scheffler
US Open Favorite Pick:
PGA Odds: +300 | Betting US Open Lines MyBookie’s Lines for Third Golf Major
Rory Mcllroy +1000
Rory was the runner up a season ago at the US Open.
Rory has not won the event since the 2011 season.
That was in Maryland, and he beat Jason Day by 8 strokes.
Mcllroy has played solid golf, with two wins and four Top 10 finishes.
It has gone overlooked due to the nature of how well Scheffler has played.
Mcllroy is second in driving distance, smacking it over 318 yards per time.
Betting Rory Mcllroy

Xander Schauffele +1200
Ranked second in the world, he has been good all over the course as well.
16th in greens in regulation and 5th in scrambling.
Those are both impressive, and he sits with a 69.4 scoring average.
The 30 year old just came off an 8th place finish at the Memorial.
Before that, he won the PGA Championship in Louisville.
He can go toe to toe with Scheffler, which would make for a fun final day.
Betting Xander Schauffele
US Open Favorite Pick:

US Open Contenders
Here are some contenders to win the 2024 US Open:
Viktor Hovland +1600
Hovland comes into the event 5th in the world rankings.
The 26 year old from Norway has been pretty solid this season, but nothing over the top.
He does not have a win, and just 1 Top 10 finish this season.
He is coming off a weekend, where he took over $325K for 15th at the Memorial.
Hovland missed the cut at the Masters, but finished third at the PGA Championship last month.
Betting Viktor Hovland
US Open Contender Pick:
PGA Odds: +1600 | Betting US Open Lines MyBookie’s Lines for Third Golf Major
Collin Morikawa +1600
Morikawa went toe to toe with Scheffler last weekend, but came away with second place.
That still earned him more than $2.1M.
Morikawa is the 8th ranked player in the world and 6th in the FedEx Cup standings.
Morikawa has been great with the driver. He is 4th in driving accuracy, with a 78.
Morikawa is 16th overall in scoring average, at just over 70.3 on the season.
Betting Collin Morikawa
US Open Contender Pick:
PGA Odds: +1600 | Betting US Open Lines MyBookie’s Lines for Third Golf Major
Bryson DeChambeau +1600
The game of golf is better when Bryson DeChambeau is in the mix.
The 30 year old that played his College Golf at SMU is coming off a 18th place finish at the LIV event in Houston.
DeChambeau finished runner up at the PGA Championship, and went for 6th at the Masters.
He has always been known as a big event golfer.
We will see if it can translate to the big stage in North Carolina.
Betting Bryson DeChambeau
US Open Contender Pick:
PGA Odds: +1600 | Betting US Open Lines MyBookie’s Lines for Third Golf Major
US Open Longshots
Here are some longshots, but some really talented golfers at the 2024 US Open:
Ludvig Aberg +2000
Aberg is 6th in the world rankings coming into the event.
Aberg is coming off a fifth place finish at the Memorial.
He missed the cut at the PGA Championship following his 72 on the first day.
He could not recover enough on Day 2.
Aberg is 9th in scoring average, and has been good getting near the hole.
Aberg is ready to break out and win a big one, but is this the right stage for him?
Betting Ludvig Aberg
US Open Longshot Pick:
PGA Odds: +2000 | Betting US Open Lines MyBookie’s Lines for Third Golf Major
Brooks Koepka +2000
We all know who Brooks Koepka is.
The 2017 and 2018 winner is back, looking for his third title.
In 2017 he went an astounding -16.
The next year he won the event over Tommy Fleetwood with a +1.
Koeka is coming off the LIV Golf event in Houston, where he finished in 9th.
The 34 year old from Florida State seems determined to show the golf world he is still able to play with the best of them.
Betting Brooks Koepka
US Open Longshot Pick:
PGA Odds: +2000 | Betting US Open Lines MyBookie’s Lines for Third Golf Major
Jon Rahm +2200
Rahm won this event in 2021.
He beat Louis Oosthuizen at Torrey Pines in San Diego.
He shot a -6, and Louis was one back.
Rahm comes into the event 7th in the world rankings. At Houston last week, he withdrew on day 2.
Before that, he missed the cut at the PGA Championship.
In April, Rahm went for 45th at the Masters.
While he is not in great form right now, Rahm is a guy that can get hot quickly.
He is a tough best to make because we know his ability, but right now, he is a bit off.
Betting Jon Rahm

2017 U.S. Open Betting Preview & Odds
Previous Betting News
The toughest challenge in golf every year is the United States Open, as the USGA likes to make that tournament as tough as possible and a survival of the fittest. However, no one knows what to expect this week at the 117th U.S. Open because it’s the first time that the course, Erin Hills in Wisconsin, has ever hosted a PGA Tour event. And really the course will be the story this week. Unfortunately, because it’s new, it makes it tougher to handicap this tournament. Let’s take a look at the latest golf odds and preview for the upcoming tournament.
2017 U.S. Open Betting Preview & Odds
TV: Thursday-Friday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. ET (FOX Sports 1), 6-9 p.m. (FOX). Saturday, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. (FOX). Sunday, 11 a.m.-8:30 p.m. (FOX).RADIO: Thursday-Friday, noon-8 p.m. ET; Saturday, noon-7 p.m.; Sunday, noon-8 p.m. (SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio and FOX Sports on SiriusXM).
Erin Hills is a public course located about 35 miles from Milwaukee. It’s the second-longest course in U.S. Open history at nearly 7,700 yards so it’s a monster. It’s also a links-style course that you would normally see in the British Open. That means fescue rough and very wide fairways – the complete opposite, for example, of the 2016 U.S. Open host, Oakmont. Every once in a while, USGA officials decide to inject a refreshing twist to its biggest championship. That’s why Chambers Bay, the Washington state course that hosted the Open in 2015, and Erin Hills got their chance. Chambers Bay is also a links course. Erin Hills has no out of bounds, no water hazards and only five trees.
The course is the first par-72 used for the U.S. Open since Pebble Beach was set up with four par-5s in 1992. Erin Hills’ par-5s all go in different directions and the one that will get the most attention is also the longest. No. 18 is listed at 637 yards for the Open, but can play as long as 663. If the forecast for sun and heat early in the week holds, the turf at Erin Hills will be firm and fast. Golfers will have to plan not only for where their balls land but for where they stop rolling. Erin Hills was built for wind to be one of its primary defenses, so if it’s not windy, then golfers could reach double digits under par. That’s very unusual at a U.S. Open. In six of the past 12 U.S. Opens, the winning score has been par or higher. This is just the fifth time since 1976 that the USGA has taken the U.S. Open to a course that had not previously hosted the championship. After Atlanta Athletic Club (where Jerry Pate won in ’76), the U.S. Open went to venues that had previously hosted the event until 1999, when the tournament was played at Pinehurst in North Carolina. That was viewed as such a success that the U.S. Open has returned to Pinehurst twice, in 2005 and 2014. Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York, was another new venue in 2002 and got a return date in 2009.
Arguably the two most popular golfers in the USA, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, are not here. Woods, a three-time winner of the tournament, remains sidelined due to back surgery. Mickelson has chosen to attend his daughter’s high school graduation that also takes place Thursday. Lefty has finished second in this tournament a record six times. It’s the one event he wants to win more than any other to complete the career Grand Slam. Barring something unforeseen like a major weather delay on Thursday, Mickelson will have to wait until 2018.
The favorite is world No. 1 Dustin Johnson, who is also the defending champion and the +700 betting favorite. He won his first major last June at Oakmont, finishing at 4-under 276, three shots ahead of Shane Lowry, Jim Furyk and Scott Piercy. Johnson, who was unable to play this year’s Masters after a slip-and- fall the day before the tournament started, is trying to become the first man to win back-to-back Opens since Curtis Strange in 1988-89. Until missing the cut at the Memorial Tournament last time out, DJ hadn’t finished outside the top 15 since January. Just six defending Open champions since 1991 have placed higher than 30th in their title defense.
Johnson is grouped with 2015 winner Jordan Spieth (+1100) and 2014 champion Martin Kaymer (+6500) the first two days. Aside from his victory in 2015, Spieth’s highest finish at this event was 17 th . Spieth does have history on this course. It hosted the 2011 U.S. Amateur and Spieth shot 69 in qualifying and had three match-play wins.
Six years after he won the U.S. Open at Congressional, Rory McIlroy (+1100) will look for major No. 5 alongside Jason Day (+1000) and 2013 champ Justin Rose (+2000) the first two days.
2017 US Open Betting Pick: Jason Day
Day has finished in the Top 10 in the US Open five times since 2011 and has been second twice. The Aussie is my pick. I do like Johnson for a Top 10. Not high on Spieth or McIlroy, who is returning from a rib injury, this week.US Open Best Contenders
Previous Betting News
This coming Thursday, June 16 will see the start of the 116th US Open, and it’s fair to say that the 156 players in the field are in for a rough 4 days. Of course, only a small percentage of that group will actually be around to fight for the championship on Saturday and Sunday, as the brutal Oakmont Country Club is sure to have a number of big names missing the cut. This is a course where it may almost be a good idea to go for a dark horse pick, as there is just no telling what might happen. The last time Oakmont hosted the US Open back in 2007, it was won by Angel Cabrera, who was able to win despite posting a score of 5 over par. Accuracy and great putting are the keys to victory at this course, and there are 5 players who may well just fit that bill. Find the latest golf betting picks here.
US Open Best Contenders
Jason Day (+600)
You don’t get to be the number 1 player in the world by being lucky, and Day is there because he has proven to be a consistent performer at just about every event that he takes part in. He has 3 wins in 11 tournaments this year, including a very nice win at the Players Championship last month. This is a guy that you can never count out, and who you can always expect to see on the leaderboard on Sunday.
Rory McIlroy (+600)
The winner of any major tournament is often the player who come in on the best run of form. McIlroy may well be that man, as he has turned things around after a rather slow start to the 2016 season. The Irishman is great off the tee, but has a tendency to be a little inconsistent with the putter. If he can put both of those parts together this weekend, he will be a legitimate threat.
Jordan Spieth (+650)
The defending champion may well be the player who has a game tailor-made for this particular course. There are few players better on the green than Spieth, and putting is going to be absolutely crucial on a course that demands accuracy and putting prowess. Spieth has already paid a visit to Oakmont ahead of the US Open, and he believes it is the toughest course in the country. This is a young man that loves a challenge, though.
Dustin Johnson (+1200)
Johnson had a total collapse at Chambers Bay last year, and he will be looking to make amends at this year’s US Open. While he has yet to pick up a tour win this season, he has been in the top 5 on a pretty consistent basis. He is one player that you most certainly cannot overlook here.
Justin Rose (+1800)
The Englishman actually had a pretty decent outing the last time the Open was at Oakmont, and that may explain why the online sportsbooks have him among the favorites. It also helps that he is among the best in the game at hitting the green in regulation after a less than flattering tee shot, which is a trait that should serve him very well this weekend.
