PGA Tour 2022 US Open Betting Update: Tiger Woods Won’t Attend, Odds Favorites and Surprise Picks

The game of golf has rarely been at the forefront level that it is currently at. With the PGA Tour and LIV battling currently and players shifting around, we are in for a ride with the future of golf. It was announced earlier that players leaving the PGA Tour will still be allowed to play in majors and next week at the U.S. Open.

The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts is the site for the 2022 U.S. Open. World number one Scottie Scheffler is headlining the event, along with Jon Rahm, the winner of last year’s U.S. Open. For the third major of the year, it will be exciting to see if we have a new champion or a repeating champion.

It’s time to take a look at some of the top players in the field, who to expect to play and who could be a surprise next week to win the U.S. Open. Let’s get right to it soy can continue with your US Open Betting.

Tiger Woods

As announced by Tiger Woods on Twitter, he will not be playing next week in Brookline. Woods last played at the PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club. After making the cut, Woods shot a third-round 79 and ended up withdrawing from the tournament.

The next possible time we could see Woods is at St. Andrew’s for The Open.

Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy and Collin Morikawa

There are four players currently tied for the best odds in the U.S. Open. The World number one player, the reigning champion, a former champion and a young gun looking for his first U.S. Open are at the top of the betting board.

Scottie Scheffler is still one of the hottest golfers on the planet currently. He most recently lost in a playoff at the Charles Schwab Challenge. Scheffler won the first major of the year at Augusta National and is playing good golf coming into the tournament next week.

Jon Rahm is a favorite as the reigning champion after his victory last year at Torrey Pines. Rahm was the number one player in the world until Scheffler had his hot start to the season. Rahm is coming off a win recently at the Mexico Open and would love to go back-to-back as the U.S. Open Champion.

Rory McIlroy is looking for his second career U.S. Open victory and McIlroy has been making a run of good golf as of late. After a missed cut at the Valero Open, McIlroy has four-straight top 20 finishes with three being top 10 finishes.

It has been a much quieter season for Collin Morikawa so far. The young gun won another leg of the career grand slam last year as the Champion Golfer of the Year. A win next week for Morikawa would complete three of the four legs.

Matthew Fitzpatrick +3000

A surprise or a player to watch for next week is Matthew Fitzpatrick. The young British player is still looking for his first major but has come so close many times. He made a run most recently at the PGA Championship but fell short of the eventual winner, Justin Thomas.

Max Homa +6600

One of the most consistent golfers on tour this season has been Max Homa. He just broke a record most recently for the fewest number of putts in a four round tournament with 99 putts. This could be the breakthrough performance that Homa needs to take the next step in his golfing career.

Make your pick after the cut

As mentioned earlier, choosing one player out of 156 is tough, but the odds are a little more in your favor after half of those guys are eliminated on Friday afternoon. Waiting to wager until after the cut will see the betting odds on each player reduced, but it also improves you chances of picking the winner. Personally, I would take someone before the tournament begins, and then look at adjusting after the cut of said player is struggling or misses the cut. For the record, I will be going with Jordan Spieth all the way. This guy just seems built for the majors.

2016 US Open Betting Favorites To Win The Title

Previous Betting News

One of the great things about golf is that any player in the field can have a great weekend and win a tournament. Yes, there are always favorites heading into any event, but it takes just one or two great rounds by a single player to put the pressure on those favored to win. The golf odds for 116th US Open at Oakmont (June 16 – 19) show that three players are considered to be the ones most likely to win the major title, but this is a course that is about as unforgiving as it gets. The last time the US Open was played in this little part of Pennsylvania, it was a score of +5 that was good enough to win. Angel Cabrera was the champion in that tournament back in 2007, and it may well be that we are looking at another relatively high score being good enough to win this one. Who is likely to post that best score? That depends on a lot of different factors, but these are the 3 players who the bookies seem to think will get the job done:

2016 US Open Betting Favorites To Win The Title

Jason Day (+650)

It stands to reason that the current number one player in the world would be the favorite to win the US Open. Day was actually at the #1 spot this time last year, too, but he wasn’t able to break through and get the win on that occasion. The fact that he is still sitting in the top spot a year later is a testament to how consistent he has been on the PGA tour over the past few months. Since last year’s Open, Jason Day has played in 19 tournaments on the tour, and has landed in the top 10 no less than 12 times. That is an amazing stat, but what makes it even more astounding is that he won 7 of those 19 events. That is a level of consistency that is incredibly difficult to maintain, but it’s also the reason why he is going to be getting a lot of the bettors’ money this weekend.

Rory McIlroy (+650)

The Irishman is always among the favorites in any tournament that he plays in, and for good reason. He is among the best in the PGA off the tee, as well as in approaches to the green, but it is his putter that often does him in. McIlroy switched to a conventional grip ahead of the Memorial Tournament, and it was his work on the greens that saw him finish in 4th place. He is going to need that putter to be working on the treacherous Oakmont course.

Jordan Spieth (+900)

This is a young man who seems to save his very best for the major tournaments. He won the US Open and the Masters in 2015, and would have won another green jacket earlier this year had it not been for a back 9 collapse that saw him end up in second after dominating for the majority of the tournament at Augusta. He has been a little up and down this season, but let’s not forget that this is a guy who has finished no worse than 4th in each of the last 5 major tournaments.
