In looking at next week’s MLB action, we’ve found a couple of intriguing series that could have playoff implications. Whether or not you want to bet on them is up to you, but we’re going to give you our MLB Betting advice on what you may want to do.
Is It Worth Betting on These Upcoming MLB Series? | August 5th Edition
Toronto Blue Jays @ Baltimore Orioles
Two of the hottest teams in the American League will square off next week in Baltimore, as the Blue Jays will take on the Orioles. These two American League East rivals are both fighting for playoff spots. Toronto is currently sitting in second place in the division, while the Orioles are in fourth. The Orioles are currently on the outside looking in on the playoff chase, but they’re not very far out of the last wild card spot.
While neither Toronto nor Baltimore figures to win the division, as the Yankees seemingly are running away with the AL East, both are still fighting for their playoff lives. Even though they’re on the road, Toronto will seemingly have the advantage in this one, as they’re sending two of their best arms to the mound in this three-game set. On Tuesday, the Jays will send their All-Star, Alek Manoah, to the mound. Manoah, in his second season has put together an 11-5 record with a 2.43 ERA. On Wednesday, Jose Berrios will take the hill. Berrios has been one of the best pitchers in baseball as of late.
We like Toronto in this series. They made some upgrades at the trade deadline, and right now, they look like one of the top three or four teams in the American League. With Berrios picking things up, the Blue Jays could be a sleeper team to win the American League. We see them taking two out of three from the Orioles, who aren’t playing bad baseball themselves.
New York Yankees @ Seattle Mariners
Don’t look now, but the Seattle Mariners are a playoff team. They haven’t made the playoffs since 2001, and this could be the year that they finally make it back into the postseason. They’ll have a tough task to start the week, as the best team in the American League, the New York Yankees, will head across the country.
New York hasn’t been playing the best baseball as of late, and seen their division lead shrink by a few games. We should see some great pitching matchups in this one. Seattle’s young fireballer, Logan Gilbert will take the mound on Monday, and he will be opposed by Jameson Taillon. Taillon has been up and down this season, while Gilbert has arguably been Seattle’s best pitcher.
On Tuesday, we’ll see a great battle, as the newly acquired Luis Castillo, will take on Gerrit Cole. Cole was roughed up in his last start, so we’ll see if he’ll bounce back. Castillo was stellar in his Mariner debut, and it was well-known that he was the object of the Yankees affection prior to getting dealt to Seattle.
On Wednesday, Yankees All-Star, Nestor Cortes, will take on Robbie Ray. Ray hasn’t been what Seattle expected him to be when they signed him to a huge deal in the offseason. However, he can still be dominant.
This is a series that I wouldn’t put too much betting stock into. More than likely, we won’t see many runs scored on Tuesday, but other than that, this one is very unpredictable. We’d leave this one alone.
