Top 2022 MLB Series to Bet On the Weekend: Chicago Cubs vs St. Louis Cardinals Analysis

In looking at this weekend’s Major League Baseball action, we’ve found some games that we think are worth placing a wager on. Let’s take a look at some of those games so you can bet against their MLB Lines.

Must-Bet Major League Baseball Games for the Upcoming Weekend (Sep. 2nd – 4th)

A Rivalry Renewed

The Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals are two of the biggest rivals in Major League Baseball. Any time these two get together, the stakes always seem to be higher. Whichever park this game is played at, you always see a lot of visiting team jerseys in the stands. While there isn’t a whole lot riding on this series, we should still see a good three-game set.

The St. Louis Cardinals currently lead the National League Central by six games over the Milwaukee Brewers. Even since the Brewers traded Josh Hader away, they have been in a slump, and surrendered their divisional lead to the Cardinals. St. Louis knows that they need to keep their foot on the gas so that the Brewers can’t sneak their way back into the divisional race.

As for the Chicago Cubs, they’ve played better recently, but they’re out of the playoff race, and they’ve brought some young players up to play out the month of September. The Cubs have also been having some injury issues, especially within the pitching staff. Kyle Hendricks is out for the year, Keegan Thompson and Justin Steele have also missed some starts due to injury.

Are the Cardinals A Good Bet This Weekend?

The Cardinals will be hosting the Cubs in this series. In looking at the pitching matchups, the clear cut advantage goes to the Cardinals. On Friday, St. Louis will send Jordan Montgomery to the hill. He will be opposed by Justin Steele. While Steele has pitched well as of late, his numbers don’t compare to Montgomery’s. Other than his last start, Montgomery has been nearly perfect for the Cardinals since coming over from New York. We’ll see if he can get back on the right track.

On Saturday, Adam Wainwright will square off against Drew Smyly. While Smyly has pitched better than expected this season, it’s hard to discount the veteran Wainwright. Wainwright always comes out and eats innings for the Cardinals. He has pitched better than his 9-9 record indicates this season.

Sunday’s game features Miles Mikolas going up against Adrian Sampson. While Sampson hasn’t given up many runs in his last two starts, he’s only gone four innings in each. Mikolas has struggled in his last few starts, so he’ll be looking to get back on the winning track.

St. Louis has the better lineup. Paul Goldschmidt should win the NL MVP Award, Nolan Arenado has had a great season, and the rest of the lineup has been very productive. Albert Pujols has caught fire over the last couple of weeks, and is nearing the 700 home run mark. Pujols has been crushing left-handed pitching, and Steele and Smyly are both lefties.

All in all, we like St. Louis to sweep the Cubs this weekend. Chicago has nothing but pride to play for, and the Cardinals are the better team. St. Louis wants to pull away from Milwaukee, and they’d love nothing more than to sweep the Cubs. While the Cardinals should be favored in every game, we still think you can make some money on them. It could be a long weekend in St. Louis for the Chicago Cubs.
