Betting NBA Prop Bets for the Season

We’re closing on the first two months of the NBA Regular Season.

Betting on NBA games can lead to fantastic profit because there are opportunities almost every night.

One of the best ways to profit from betting the NBA is to back props.

What is proposition betting and more specifically NBA prop bets?

Check out an explanation of NBA pro betting along with examples.

Writer’s Rundown on the NBA Prop Bets: Explanation and Example

NBA Player Props

Typical NBA player prop bets include how many points a player scores, how many rebounds a player grabs, or how many assists a player dishes in a game.

Sometimes, the player prop bet can include all three.

Here’s an example: Luka Doncic offers a player prop to score at least 30 points versus the Oklahoma City Thunder on December 10.

Or there could be a player prop that combines Luka’s points, rebounds, and assists at 50.

To bet the prop, we decide to go over or under the total, which in this case is whether Doncic’s points, rebounds, and assists go over or under 50.

Check out other examples:

  • Golden State’s Steph Curry to make over or under 6 three-point shots
  • Oklahoma City’s Isaiah Hartenstein to grab 12 or more rebounds
  • Dallas’s Kyrie Irving to dish 8 or more assists

In the above examples, we would bet over or under the totals.

The NBA prop bet works just like any over/under bet, meaning if we bet over and it goes over, we win.

NBA Team Props

We can also bet on team props.

A team prop example is whether a team scores over or under a total.

Another example would be whether a team is the first to score or last to score.

Sportsbooks also offer a three-point team prop, which requires bettors to place a wager over or under the total three-point shots made by a team.

A team prop example on the Golden State Warriors versus the Phoenix Suns would be how many three pointers the Warriors make in the game or how many three pointers the Suns make in a game.

If the total is 15 and we bet over and the Suns make 18, we win our bet.

Here are a few other proposition betting examples:

  • Nuggets to grab 16 offensive rebounds in a game
  • Lakers to have 24 assists in a game

As with all total bets, we go over or under and then hope for a positive outcome.

NBA Game Props

An NBA game prop is any that involve specific events that happen in a game.

An example of a specific game prop would be winning margin.

The winning margin is usually a range.

The tighter the range or higher the range the higher the odds.

For example, a winning margin game prop of 0-6 on a game where the spread is -3 wouldn’t pay out as much as a winning margin game prop of 10-16.

The reason is because at -3, oddsmakers expect a close game.

So we win more on a game prop that has a higher range.

Other NBA game props include total points in a quarter, or how many combined points the participating teams score in a specific quarter, and event game props like whether or not the game will go into overtime.

Combo NBA Props

A combo prop would be something like whether Denver Nuggets’ star Nikola Jokic records a triple double.

A triple double includes scoring at least 10 points, grabbing at least 10 rebounds, and dishing at least 10 assists in a single game.

There could also be a combo prop that includes players from both teams.

So the book could offer a combo prop that includes something like Jokic recording a triple double and Steph Curry making at least 4 three-point shots when Denver plays Golden State.

A combo prop that involves Jokic recording a triple double and Curry making three-point shots will look similar to this: Jokic 10+ points, 10+ rebounds, 10+ assists and Curry 4+ three-pointers.

The odds on combo NBA prop bets make it a very appealing wager.

But they are difficult to hit.

Then again, all proposition bets are difficult to hit.

NBA Special Props

At times, a sportsbook will offer a special prop.

A special might be something like how many minutes a star player steps onto the court in his first game back from an injury.

Or when or if a player will suit up for a new team on the day he was traded to the franchise.

Another special prop could happen with an NBA coach.

For example, will the new coach win his first game?

Special NBA prop bets are rare.

When it comes to proposition betting, the most obvious are those that we know and love like player props, team props, and game props.
