The Indiana Pacers made a big trade on Wednesday in acquiring All-Star forward Pascal Siakam from the Toronto Raptors and there’s a chance that Siakam will make his Pacers debut Thursday night when they visit Sacramento. The Kings opened as 8.5-point favorites on the NBA odds. 2024 NBA Expert Analysis Indiana vs Sacramento | MyBookie Sportsbook NBA Week 13

Series History
First of two meetings this season with Indiana leading all-time 52-44 but trailing 19-17 as the road team. They split last year, each winning at home. In Sacramento, the Kings prevailed 137-114 behind 22 points from Harrison Barnes and Malik Monk. Domantas Sabonis had 11 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. De’Aaron Fox added 19 points. Jalen Smith and Bennedict Mathurin both scored 22 points for Indiana. Star Tyrese Haliburton finished with nine points and 10 rebounds. He of course was traded from Sacramento to Indiana a couple of years ago for Sabonis.
Why Bet on Indiana Pacers?
The Pacers aren’t the type of team that can land top-tier free agents so they have to build a contender through the draft or through trades. A few years ago, they sent out star big man Domantas Sabonis to Sacramento and got back point guard Tyrese Haliburton, who had been an early MVP candidate before getting injured. He will not play Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the Pacers made another big splash in landing two time All-Star forward Pascal Siakam from Toronto for starting guard Bruce Brown (but not a huge loss) and three first-round picks. Siakam would have to pass a physical and travel to California in time to play Thursday but an outside chance that happens.
The 29-year-old forward is averaging 22.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists in 34.7 minutes per game this season. Siakam, who was selected 27th overall by the Raptors in the 2016 Draft, is shooting 52.2% from the field, 75.8% from the free-throw line and 31.7% from beyond the arc. He has averaged more than 20 points in five of his eight NBA seasons, while being named an All-Star twice (2020 and 2023) and All-NBA Second Team in 2020.
Siakam is not the defensive stopper the Pacers hoped they were getting when they signed Brown, and Siakam isn’t even where he was a few years ago when he got All-Defense votes, but he’ll immediately become one of the best defenders on the team. The pick-and-roll duo between Haliburton when back and Siakam two should be deadly. Siakam has been very solid as the screener in those plays. He’s shooting 64.7 percent from the field as a roller this season, and his efficiency ranks in the 81st percentile of all players. The transition attack also should be excellent. Siakam is good at leaking out for easy buckets and converts well on those, ranking in the 77th percentile.
At 23-17 overall and sixth in the Eastern Conference, the Pacers’ rebuild was already ahead of schedule thanks to the ascension of Haliburton from bona fide NBA star to future MVP candidate – but adding Siakam almost completes the task. The only way this trade backfires on the Pacers is if Siakam decides he doesn’t want to be there in the long term as he’s a free agent this summer.
There are three injury notes for Thursday’s game: Bennedict Mathurin and Aaron Nesmith both returned to practice on Wednesday but Obi Toppin didn’t go.
Mathurin left Monday’s loss against Utah early due to a sprained left ankle. However, his status for Thursday’s game against the Kings remains to be determined. Mathurin has scored in double figures in 12 straight games, averaging 17.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 26.8 minutes per game during that stretch. Nesmith has missed Indiana’s last two contests due to bilateral shin soreness. He’s averaging 11.8 points this season. Toppin hasn’t missed time but is dealing with a calf issue and probably will play. He averages 11.6 ppg.
Why Bet on Sacramento Kings?
Someone ironic about the Pacers acquiring Pascal Siakam on Wednesday from Toronto is that Sacramento also was after him. The Kings are off maybe the most unlikely loss of the season as they blew a 22-point fourth-quarter lead in Phoenix on Tuesday and lost 119-117, their third straight defeat – all on the road. The Kings led by 22 points with 8:22 to play and still 113-96 before the Suns closed the game with a 23-4 run.

Kevin Durant‘s free throws with 30 seconds left gave the Suns a 117-115 lead, their first since it was 3-2. De’Aaron Fox, who led all scorers with 33 points, tied it with a jumper with 19 seconds to go. But he then fouled Durant, who was attempting a long jumper. After his free throws, a last-second shot by the Kings was long.
“It’s a tough way to lose. Give them credit,” Kings coach Mike Brown said. “We played a good 42 minutes. The last six minutes, we took some tough shots at the rim. We couldn’t score at the rim instead of just continuing to move the ball and move bodies, everything was really stagnant, we turned the ball over.”
The Kings shot 51.4% with 30 assists and six turnovers over the first three quarters. They went 8 of 18 with eight turnovers and four assists in the fourth.
“We had some bad turnovers,” Brown continued. “I thought we were really lazy a couple of times with the ball instead of making sure we were passing on time, passing on target. … The last five or six minutes of the game, when a team is coming back and the crowd is in it, you can’t be lackadaisical with the basketball.”
Domantas Sabonis had 21 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists in a losing effort. It was his 11th triple-double of the season, 23rd consecutive game with double figures in at least two of the columns and his league-high 36th double-double of the season. Sabonis missed just two shots from the field and notched his fifth triple-double across nine January contests.
Keegan Murray was questionable but played and scored 18 points. Sasha Vezenkov came off the bench to match his career high with 14. Monk had 13 points and eight assists, but he was frustrated after committing five of the team’s 20 turnovers.
“I don’t like losing,” Monk said. “I don’t like losing, especially when I have a turnover with like 50 seconds left.”
Fox is one of four players along with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Donovan Mitchell and Trae Young to rank in the Top 10 in points and steals per game, and one of six players to rank in the Top 25 in points, assists and steals per outing. Fox has scored 20+ points in a half 16 times this season, the fifth-most in the Association. He is fourth in the NBA in fourth quarter scoring (8.1 ppg).
