It’s still relatively early in the season, but this is a massive matchup in what is proving to be a very tight NFC South Division race. The Buccaneers are on top right now, sitting at 3-2 after losing their last game. The Falcons are at 3-3 overall and sitting tied with the Saints on the same record. I have a feeling that the division is going to remain this tight all season long, so these divisional matchups are going to be what ultimately decides this thing. The one trend that sways me here is that Tampa has won 7 of their last 9 against divisional opponents. Combine that with their home field advantage this weekend and I think they win a very close one.

Baltimore Ravens vs Detroit Lions

I am always a little wary about wagering on a team a week after they returned from a London game, but I’m taking that chance this weekend. The Lions came into this season with a great deal of expectation placed on their shoulders. They ended last season strongly, with pundits believing that they would carry that form over into this season, which they indeed have, going 5-1 to start the year. This is a tough road trip, though, and while the Ravens have been a little up and down this season, they have a solid history against teams from the NFC North, winning 5 of the last 6 against those teams. I think we get a low scoring game here and a Ravens win.

Philadelphia Eagles vs Miami Dolphins SNF

This is arguably the best game on the schedule this weekend, with both of these teams almost certainly looking at the playoffs in their future. The Dolphins come into this game with a 5-1 record, but they were blown out the last time they faced one of the top teams in the league, the Buffalo Bills. The Eagles have the same record, and you can bet that they are still smarting after losing to the New York Jets as a 6 ½ point favorite last weekend. I don’t think the Eagles are going to deliver back-to-back stinkers, and while I do think that this will be a close game, I think it will be Philly that edges it in their own building.

As we head into Week 7 of the NFL season, there are already a few teams who have a real stranglehold on their divisions. It is, though, much too early to call it for the teams on top, as a lot can change with the majority of the season still ahead of us. The Baltimore Ravens are one of the teams bolting out to an early lead this season, as they are currently 5-1 and opening up on the rest of the pack in the AFC North. They cannot afford to take their foot off the gas, though, as the Steelers are starting to pick up some momentum, while the Cincinnati Bengals are better than expected. It will be the Bengals who head into Baltimore this weekend looking to tighten things up in the division race, but this is not a place where they have had a lot of success in the past, winning just once in their last 5 visits to Baltimore. It certainly doesn’t help that the Ravens have now also won 6 in a row at home, and I like them to make it 7 this weekend.

New England Patriots over New York Jets

All the talk this offseason was about how the Jets were in a serious rebuild and ready to start competing again. We are now 6 weeks into the season, and it has been the same old Jets, as they come into this weekend sitting at 1-4. It is much the same story in New England, as the Patriots are not having the season they expected after spending big in the offseason. They are at 2-4, but they can take some solace in the fact that they appear to have drafted a very capable QB in Mac Jones. As nice as that is, they still need to start winning games if they want to make the playoffs. The Jets have not won in Foxboro in quite some time and have just 3 wins in their last 20 overall.

Las Vegas Raiders over Philadelphia Eagles

Many of us went into Week 6 waiting to see how the Las Vegas Raiders would react after losing their head coach in controversial circumstances. They seemed to take it all in stride, as they delivered one of their best performances of the season on their way to a comfortable win over the Denver Broncos. The question now is whether they can keep that going this weekend against the Philadelphia Eagles. Philly has won 6 of their last 9 games versus the Raiders, but I feel that they aren’t playing well enough to go on the road and get a win against a team that has shown some real grit.
