Veteran Quarterback in Cleveland

Joe Flacco has been the talk of the town for the Browns, and rightfully so. He came in and steadied the ship that had been starting to sink. The Browns offense started immediately taking off, which is why they are the 5th seed in the AFC. Cleveland finished with just shy of 400 points on the season.

Amari Cooper is the top threat in the Cleveland offense. The receiver finished with 72 receptions, 1,250 yards and five touchdowns on the season. Him and David Njoku became reliable targets repeatedly late in the season for the Browns. In the run game, it was Jerome Ford that took over for Nick Chubb early on. Ford finished with 813 rushing yards.

Cleveland is back in the postseason after reaching in 2021. The Browns beat Pittsburgh in the wildcard game that season, before losing at Kansas City in the divisional round. Before that, it was January of 2003 when they played a playoff game.

Rookie Quarterback in Houston

A loss at the Ravens and a home loss to the Colts had Houston starting 0-2, and many counting them out right away this season. But winners of six of their next eight, and some solid play down the stretch has them AFC South Champions. The Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans is a strong candidate for the NFL Coach of the Year.

Despite missing games, C.J. Stroud is over 4,000 passing yards on the season. He lost his top target Tank Dell in the middle of the season, but has found other guys to pick up the slack. His connection with Nico Collin has been strong. Collins has 8 touchdowns on nearly 1,300 receiving yards.

The Houston Texans are playing their 11th postseason game in franchise history. They are 4-6 thus far. The last time they played in the postseason, they beat the Bills in overtime in 2020, and then fell to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Houston Finds Home Win

The Browns won the game on Christmas Eve, but this is a totally different situation. Different players, different scenarios. This is going to be a pressure packed game, and could be a close one. Do not be surprised if this is a final minute drive that leads to a win. In the end, we are going to take the underdogs home. Too much value in the Texans with Stroud back and healthy. The final bet for this game on Saturday is the Houston Texans +2.5 over the Cleveland Browns.

Browns vs Texans NFL Week 13 Odds & Game Preview

Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns will look to pull off the upset over Deshaun Watson and the streaking Houston Texans when the two AFC counterparts square off in their intriguing Week 13 matchup on Sunday. While Cleveland enters this contest playing its best football of the season, Houston hasn’t lost since September.

Now, let’s find out which team is offering the best betting value in this matchup.

  • When: Sunday, December 2, 2018 at 1:00 PM ET
  • Where: NRG Stadium, Houston, Texas
  • TV: CBS
  • Live Stream: NFL Live
  • NFL Week 13 Odds: Houston -6 / Total: 45

Why Bet On Cleveland?

Why should you bet on the Browns in this matchup? Well, there are several good reasons actually.  Cleveland has won two straight so they have some momentum coming into this affair. First, the Browns smacked Atlanta around two weeks ago and then they dominated Cincinnati around 35-20 to cash in as a 1-point road favorite in a game that had some added drama. With former head coach Hue Jackson now working as an assistant with the Bengals, some Cleveland players were upset about Jackson joining a division rival, including rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield who tossed a career-high four TD passes against Cincinnati.

“Somebody who was in our locker room is asking us to play for him, and then he goes to a different team,” said Mayfield.

The Browns got their first road win since 2015 to snap a string of 25 straight road losses that was one short of Detroit’s NFL record

“We’re tired of being disrespected,” safety Jabrill Peppers said. “Before the game, they said, `Why are you talking? You play for the Browns.’ What does that even mean?”

The Browns are ranked 18th in scoring (23.0 ppg) and 22nd in points allowed (25.7 ppg) and they’ve clearly got a future with Baker Mayfield and now, Nick Chubb in their backfield together.

Why Bet On Houston?

Why should you bet on Houston to win this matchup? There are a bunch of great reasons. First, Houston is playing at home where they’ve won four of five times this season. Next, the Texans have a bunch of momentum, having won eight straight games including their convincing 34-17 beatdown of AFC South rival Tennessee on Sunday as a 3.5-point home favorite.

Deshaun Watson passed for 210 yards and two scores while rushing for another score to lead the way to victory. Running back Lamar Miller added a 97-yard scoring burst to become the first player in league history with two 97-yards scores.

“We need to try and keep getting better,” coach Bill O’Brien said. “We need to take the mantra that we’re going to improve every day.”

The Texans are ranked 14th in scoring (24.8 ppg) and a stellar fifth in points allowed (20.2 ppg).

Expert Analysis and Prediction for Browns vs Texans

While I’ve been impressed with Baker Mayfield and the Browns the last two games and they look a lot more competent than they did under former head coach Hue Jackson. Houston is playing some rock-solid football on both sides of the ball in holding each of their last seven opponents to 23 points or less while scoring 34 or more three times in their last eight games.

Cleveland has gone 5-11-1 ATS in their last 17 road games while Houston has gone 4-0 ATS in their last four games against their AFC counterparts and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall. While Houston has a pair of three-point wins and a pair of two-point wins among their eight-game winning streak, I’m going to advise you to back the Texans to win and narrowly cover the chalk against the improved Browns.
