Handicapping the regular season in the NFL is always tough, as we so often see upsets happen along the way. The playoffs might actually be even tougher since we are down to the best teams in the league and the talent differences are not as wide as we often see in the regular season. Seeding is important in terms of home field advantage, but the differences between a #1 and a #1 are often negligible. Just look at what the Cincinnati Bengals did last season when going into the playoffs as a lower seed. Will we see another team go on a similar run this time around, and could that team perhaps be the New York Giants? Let’s take a closer look at their chances of winning it all so you can make your bets against their NFL Playoffs Odds.
New York Giants Postseason Analysis: Conference Odds, Super Bowl Lines, and Wild Card Preview
WILD CARD ROUND
The New York Giants were something of a surprise in the early part of the season, charging out of the gate to get to 6-1. They looked very much like a playoff team, but they ended up hanging on for dear life in the second half of the season, going 3-6-1 in their last 10 games. That is not how you want to go into the playoffs, especially when going on the road to face a team that has won 13 games this season. The Giants are a 3-point underdog to the Vikings, who beat them on a last second field goal a few short weeks ago. This could be another tight one, and it would not be a huge surprise to see the Giants spring the upset.
CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP
Okay, so there is a chance that the Giants could go on the road and get the win against Minnesota, but what about after that? The matchups will almost certainly get tougher for New York, and given how they ended the regular season, there are not too many people outside of the Big Apple giving them much of a chance. The bookies seem to agree with that feeling, as they have the Giants listed at +2500 to win the NFC. It certainly doesn’t help that they went 4-7-1 in conference play this season, but the Giants did play .500 ball on the road, which is where they are going to be all the way through the postseason if they do get on a run.
SUPER BOWL
Okay, so let’s say that the Giants get past Minnesota. What would come next. Most likely, it would be a trip to San Francisco to face a 49ers team that is red hot and coming into the playoffs on a 10-game winning streak. After that would probably be the Eagles or Cowboys, both teams that they have already lost to this season. All of these games would be on the road, making the path to the Super Bowl that much tougher. It would be a very brave person who got their money out and tool the Giants to win it all at odds of +5400. I, for one, would not be willing to make that bet, as this looks like a team doomed to make an early exit.
