Writer’s Breakdown and Pick for the Jaguars vs Dolphins Game

Jaguars Look to Make an Early Season Statement

Jacksonville extended Trevor Lawrence’s contract in the offseason, hoping to secure long-term success.

Last season, Lawrence completed 65.6% of his passes, totaling over 4,000 yards with 21 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, though he was sacked 35 times.

The team’s leading receiver, Calvin Ridley, has moved on, leaving Christian Kirk, Gabe Davis, and newcomer Brian Thomas Jr. as key targets, along with tight end Evan Engram.

The Jaguars have a new backup quarterback.

Former Patriots signal caller Mac Jones will sit in behind Lawrence for 2024.

Running back Travis Etienne is poised for a big season after rushing for over 1,000 yards and scoring 11 touchdowns last year, without losing a fumble.

The Jaguars will host their first home game in Week 2 against the Cleveland Browns.

Dolphins Seek to Continue Offensive Success

The Dolphins were one of the NFL’s top offensive teams last season.

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa started all 17 games, completing 388 passes for 4,624 yards and 29 touchdowns.

Tim Boyle and Skyler Thompson are the next two in line for Miami under center.

Tyreek Hill led the league in receiving yards with over 1,790 and scored 13 touchdowns, while Jaylen Waddle contributed with four touchdowns.

Miami’s running game was bolstered by Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane, who combined for 1,800 yards and 26 touchdowns.

In Week Two, the Dolphins will face the Buffalo Bills in a key divisional game on Thursday night.

The first road game of the season for the Miami Dolphins is in Week 3.

That will be on the road in Seattle.

They will finish September with another home game; against the Titans.

Final Betting NFL Pick: Dolphins Top Jaguars in Miami

We predict the Miami Dolphins will win this game at home.

Miami’s offensive firepower should be too much for Jacksonville to handle.

The Jaguars could come away with a nice season, but it starts after the opener.

When we go to make our score prediction we see the Dolphins 34-20 over the Jaguars.

Bet on the Dolphins -3.5 over the Jaguars.

Enjoy the game and good luck with your NFL bets!

Jaguars vs Dolphins 2019 NFL Preseason Week 3 Odds & Betting Pick

Previous Betting News

Arguably no team has looked worse this NFL preseason than the Jacksonville Jaguars, and they may or may not finally see the debut of starting quarterback Nick Foles on Thursday night when the Jags head south in the Sunshine State to face the Dolphins, who are slight NFL Betting favorites.

NFL Preseason Week 3 Odds: Miami Dolphins -3 (Total 37)

Last Meeting

The clubs haven’t met in the preseason in a handful of years did play in Week 16 last regular season and Jacksonville won 17-7 in Miami. Jags QB Blake Bortles came off the bench late in the third quarter and provided a spark. Bortles took the Jaguars 51 yards for a short field goal and 10-7 lead early in the fourth quarter.

On the next series, Telvin Smith Sr. intercepted Ryan Tannehill and scored on a 33-yard return to seal the Jaguars’ victory. Bortles is now with the Rams. Calais Campbell was dominant on defense with a forced and recovered fumble, a sack, two tackles for a loss and three quarterback hurries. Tannehill went 15 of 22 for 146 yards with one touchdown. He’s now with the Titans.

Why Bet on Jacksonville?

The Jags can’t possibly play much worse than they have thus far in losing both preseason games and not even totaling 400 yards of offense combined. They were 24-10 home losers to the Eagles last week. The Jaguars sat 31 guys, including quarterback Nick Foles, cornerback Jalen Ramsey, running back Leonard Fournette, linebacker Myles Jack and defensive ends Yannick Ngakoue and Calais Campbell.

Rookie QB Gardner Minshew started in place of Nick Foles for the second straight week and looked better than his debut in Baltimore. Minshew, who threw for 46 yards in a 29-0 loss to the Ravens, completed 19 of 29 passes for 202 yards. He tightened his grip on the backup job.

Jaguars coach Doug Marrone suggested fifth-round running back Ryquell Armstead (concussion) could play in Thursday’s preseason game against the Dolphins. Armstead is in the final stages of the concussion protocol. The rookie may struggle for a meaningful early-season role after missing so much practice time this summer. No. 2 tailback Alfred Blue (ankle) is in a walking boot and won’t play in Thursday’s preseason game against Miami.

It’s not yet clear if Foles will make his Jaguars debut this week. Marrone has said he plans to play his starters but only Foles is the first-team offensive line is all healthy. The line dealt with injuries to three projected starters left tackle Cam Robinson, left guard Andrew Norwell and right tackle Jawaan Taylor – in recent weeks, and has worked together for the first time the past two days.

Foles said while he has gone through a preseason without playing as recently as 2017, he would prefer to play before the regular season.

“If you have a chance to play, to go out there and get a few plays, it’s always great to get that game feel, that game preparation,” Foles said. “Based on what coach decides, it would be good for us.”

Why Bet on Miami?

The Fins (1-1) lost 16-14 in Tampa last week. Josh Rosen completed 10-of-18 passes for 102 scoreless yards. He was sacked three times for a loss of 15 yards. Rosen drew the start and played the first 30 minutes before passing the baton to veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick in the second half.

First-year head coach Brian Flores is giving Rosen a legitimate shot to win the starting role but Rosen didn’t really do much in the loss. It wasn’t all Rosen’s fault as the 2018 first-rounder spent much of the evening running for his life behind a porous Miami offensive line. Fitzpatrick, who spent the previous two seasons with Tampa Bay, entered to start the second half and completed 3 of 9 passes for 20 yards before being replaced by Jake Rudock five minutes into the fourth quarter. Fitzpatrick will start Thursday but Dolphins coach Brian Flores said Fitzpatrick isn’t a lock to start Week 1 of the regular season. The job is still very much up for grabs.

Flores said that his decision won’t necessarily be made after the preseason game against Jacksonville and he’s not necessarily going to stick with one starter the entire season.

Receiver Albert Wilson (hip) is uncertain for Thursday’s preseason game against Jacksonville. Wilson was well on his way to a productive 2018 season before suffering a serious hip injury in Week 7 vs Detroit. Wilson had caught 26 passes for 391 yards and four touchdowns before getting injured. This type of production all season would have put him on pace for 60 receptions, 893 yards, and nine touchdowns.

The Dolphins have kept the same first-team offensive line since the early days of training camp, and it should stay that way. Flores said Monday he has liked what he has seen from the unit of Laremy Tunsil at left tackle, rookie Michael Deiter at left guard, Daniel Kilgore at center, rookie Shaq Calhoun at right guard and Jesse Davis at right tackle. Deiter and Calhoun moved to the first-team unit and Davis slid over from right guard to right tackle after the first four practices of camp, the move coinciding with Dave DeGuglielmo replacing Pat Flaherty as offensive line coach.

Previous Betting News

Ryan Tannehill and the Miami Dolphins will look to keep their playoff hopes alive when they host Cody Kessler and the reeling Jacksonville Jaguars in their all-Florida Week 16 matchup on Sunday. Now, let’s find out which team is offering the best value against their NFL Week 16 betting odds in this one.

Jaguars vs Dolphins NFL Week 16 Betting Lines & Game Preview

When: Sunday, December 23, 2018 at 1:00 PM ET
Where: Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens, Florida
NFL Week 16 Odds: Miami -4 / Total: 39.5

Why Bet on Jacksonville at +4?

Why should you consider betting on the Jags in this contest? There is absolutely no good reason at all! Jacksonville lost for the ninth time in their last 10 games by losing to Washington 16-13 last weekend. Quarterback Cody Kessler was limited to a mind-bogglingly awful 57 passing yards in the defeat while running back Leonard Fournette was limited to just 46 rushing yards. Jacksonville is averaging an uninspiring 16.1 points per game (30th) while giving up just 20.6 points per game defensively to rank a stellar sixth in points allowed.

Why Bet On Miami at -4?

Why should you consider betting on Miami in Week 16? Well, there are a few good reasons actually. First, the Dolphins are playing at home. Next, the Fins have a ton of motivation as they look to extend their playoff hopes for another week. Last but not least, Jacksonville is lost and completely confused about who they are and how they play right now.

Miami got smacked senseless in their 41-17 loss to Minnesota last weekend to abruptly halt their modest two-game winning streak. Ryan Tannehill was limited to 108 passing yards and Miami’s defense gave up 136 rushing yards and two scores to Vikings running back Dalvin Cook. The Dolphins average 21.1 points per game (23rd) while allowing 26.7 points per game defensively (27th).

Expert Analysis and Prediction for Jaguars vs Dolphins

With over 70 percent of public bettors backing the Dolphins to win and cash in, I believe this pick is a no-brainer. The Jaguars are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in December, 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 1-7-2 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Dolphins are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 home games and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games on grass. The favorite in this all-Florida rivalry has gone 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 meetings.

NFL Week 16 Pick: Miami 38 Jacksonville 7
