NFL Odds: Sure Losers Week 11

The New York Jets have allowed 175 points in their last four games. That’s the 2nd-most points allowed in a four-game span by any team since the 1970 AFL/NFL merger.  We expect the Jets to lose again in Week 11 to the Miami Dolphins. Here’s a quick look at each and from the NFL odds.

Analysis NFL 2021 Week 11

Patriots at Falcons (+3.5)

This is the Thursday night game this week and we expect New England to roll. The Patriots looked great on Sunday in a 45-7 blowout of a good Cleveland team. The Patriots offense had three 90-yard drives that resulted in touchdowns. It was the only time in the Bill Belichick era that the team has had three 90-play drives in a game.

The Patriots scored 45 unanswered points after falling behind 7-0 in the first quarter. It is the second time in 2021 that the Patriots have scored over 40 points. The Patriots beat the New York Jets, 54-13 on Oct. 24, 2021. They rushed for a season-high of 184 yards against a Cleveland defense that entered the game ranked third in the NFL, allowing just 84.8 rushing yards per game.

Rookie Rhamondre Stevenson rushed 20 times for 100 yards and two touchdowns, adding four catches for 14 yards.  Damien Harris was out for this game because of a concussion, leaving the bulk of the backfield work up for grabs. Stevenson made the most of his opportunity, leading the team in carries and targets, of which he saw five.

Rookie QB Mac Jones completed 19-of-23 passes for 198 yards and three touchdowns, the first three-score game of his career.  Jones is the first New England rookie quarterback to throw at least three touchdowns in game since Drew Bledsoe had four touchdown passes in Week 18 of the 1993 season vs. Miami on Jan. 2, 1994. Jones is the first rookie in franchise history with at least three touchdown passes and no interceptions in a single game.

He has four games with at least two TD throws. The record for most games with at least two touchdown passes by a rookie quarterback is Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers with 10 games in 2020. Jones has finished with a 70-plus completion percentage in six of his 10 games in 2021. The rookie record is nine games with a 70+ percent completion percentage by Dak Prescott in 2016. The NFL record is 13 games by Drew Brees in 2017.

Belichick won his 250th regular-season game with the Patriots to tie Tom Landry (250) and become the fourth NFL coach with at least 250 career regular season wins with one team.

Atlanta was clobbered 43-3 in Dallas on Sunday. Former league MVP Matt Ryan had maybe the worst game of his career. Going against his former head coach in Dan Quinn, Ryan had a passer rating of 21.4, as he completed just 9 of 21 passes for 117 yards and two interceptions. After being fired by the Falcons last season, Quinn was named Dallas’ defensive coordinator. Ryan’s previous low was 29.6 in the second game of his career against Tampa Bay in 2008. Ryan was eventually pulled for backup quarterbacks Josh Rosen and Feleipe Franks.

Colts at Bills (-6.5)

Indianapolis was fortunate to beat Jacksonville 23-17 on Sunday. After starting the game with a 17-0 lead and again struggling to deliver the knockout punch, Indy did just enough to close out its fourth win in five games. Kemoko Turay’s fumble recovery with 50 seconds left ended Jacksonville’s hopes.

Running back Jonathan Taylor led the team in rushing with a season-high 21 carries for 116 yards and one touchdown. He also added six receptions for 10 yards. Taylor has tallied a rushing touchdown and 100 yards from scrimmage in seven consecutive games and became just the fourth player ever to do so in seven consecutive games. He joined LaDainian Tomlinson (eight in 2006), Lydell Mitchell (eight from 1975-76) and Larry Johnson (seven in 2005).

He passed Alan Ameche and Marlon Mack (seven) and tied Joseph Addai (eight) for the fifth-most 100-yard rushing games in Colts history. He tied Derrick Henry for the most 100-yard rushing games this season (five). Taylor has a rushing touchdown in seven consecutive games, which is the longest active streak in the NFL and the most consecutive games by a Colt since Curtis Dickey in 1980 (seven). He is tied with Henry for the league lead in rushing yards this season (937). Indianapolis is 8-0 all-time when Taylor has at least 100 rushing yards.

Dating back to last season, Indianapolis has now forced a turnover in 11 consecutive games, which is tied for the longest active streak in the NFL.

Buffalo killed the Jets on Sunday 45-17 to extend its winning streak against AFC East opponents to nine games – the second-longest winning streak in team history (10 games from 1990-91). The Bills improved to 9-2 in games after a loss since 2019 – the second-highest winning percentage in the NFL.

Every starting defensive back recorded a takeaway – CB Taron Johnson & CB Tre’Davious White produced their first interceptions of the season, Micah Hyde forced and recovered a fumble, Jordan Poyer added an interception. The Bills now have 24 takeaways in the first nine games of the season – the most by a Bills team since they posted 29 in 1993
