You often hear players, coaches, and fans talk about momentum in sports and how it can change a game or a series.
It sounds like a cliché until you actually see it in action. We are seeing it in real time right now in the Stanley Cup Final.
My Analysis for Florida Panthers at Edmonton Oilers Game 6
The Florida Panthers looked to be on the brink of glory after taking a 3-0 series lead, but a big win for the Oilers shifted the momentum of the series, which is now about to head back to Alberta for Game 6.
Of course, the pressure is still on Edmonton to stay alive, but that momentum shift is sure to have the Panthers second guessing themselves just a bit. It is the Oilers who are in as a 1 ½ goal favorite in the NHL Odds for the next game in the series, with the goal total set at 5 ½, according to MyBookie Sportsbook.

These are strange times for the Panthers, who must now be feeling the pressure after looking as though they were going to sweep the Stanley Cup Finals. They held the Oilers offense at bay through the opening 2 games, limiting them to just 1 goal.
The Panthers then went on the road and got a 4-3 win in Edmonton to take what looked to be an insurmountable series lead. We now know that is not the case, but can Florida go on the road and win the Stanley Cup in hostile territory?
The Panthers saw their win streak over the Oilers come to an end in Game 4, but they are still 5-2 in their last 7 meetings with Edmonton. They will, though, need to tighten up again in the defensive end, but with 7 of the last 9 games versus the Oilers in Edmonton going OVER, this one might end up in a shootout.
^Edmonton Oilers Odds -118
The mark of a good team is how they react to adversity, and you have to say that going 3-0 down in a 7-game series is about as bad as things can get.
It looked like the Oilers were never going to solve the Panthers D. but they have done it in a big way, scoring a total of 13 goals in their last 2 games to once again make this a series.
As good as they have been over the last 2 outings, the pressure is still squarely on the shoulders of the Oilers, who once again need to win to stay alive. The trends are certainly not on their favor, and neither is history, as you have to go back to 1942 to find the only time a team came back from 3 games down to win the Stanley Cup.
^Florida Panthers at Edmonton Oilers Betting Prediction
As mentioned at the top of this piece, momentum is one of those intangibles in sports that can have an impact on the outcome of a game or series. The Oilers have it now, but I think they are going to run out of steam on Friday night, as I have the Panthers winning a close one and hoisting the Stanley Cup.
