PGA Championship Betting Odds: Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler Favorites to Win

PGA Championship Betting Odds: Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler Favorites to Win

As I write this piece, the opening round of the PGA Championship is already underway, so I will be sure to include updates on the golfers listed in this article. Picking a winner, especially in a major, is tough, as the majority of players teeing off on Thursday could win this thing if they can string together 4 good rounds. Still, only one golfer can win the tournament, and there are definitely a few who stand out as potential winners. Yesterday, we took a look at some potential dark horses who could be crowned as the champion on Sunday, but for this piece, we are going to take a look at the favorites, so let’s jump right in, keeping in mind that these PGA Championship odds will likely have changed by the time you read this.

Last Minute PGA Championship Betting Odds Update

Where: Oak Hill East Course

Jon Rahm

Betting Pick: +750

Rahm has always been a guy who hovered around the top of the leaderboard heading into the final round, but the knock on him was that he was all too often the bridesmaid. That is certainly not the case this season, though, as he has 4 wins already, including The Masters, and is the #1 player in the world. As good as he has been, he has some real work on his hands after a disastrous +6 opening round. He is going to need to be spectacular on Friday if he is to even make the cut. Rahm’s odds have now gone to +12500, which is quite a drop.

Scottie Scheffler

Betting Pick: +750

Scheffler came into this tournament playing some fine golf, which included winning a pair of events already this season. This is a golfer that knows how to handle pressure, which he proved when he won The Master last year. If you like Scheffler to win the PGA Championship, you might want to get in on the action now, as he is right among the leaders after shooting -3 in the opening round, which has him a shot off the lead at the time of writing. He has seen his odds shorten to +300, and those odds will continue to head in that direction if he goes well again on Friday.

Rory McIlroy

Betting Pick: +1200

I don’t really have to go into too much detail about McIlroy and what he has accomplished on the PGA Tour, as he is very much a household name at this point. He has amassed 23 career wins to this point, although he has just 1 tour victory this season. He is always a good bet to be among the leaders in every tournament he enters, but he is a bit off the pace after shooting +1 in his opening round. 4 or 5 strokes is not a huge gap to make up over the course of 3 days, but he will need to be better on Friday. Right now, his odds have gone to +2200.

Xander Schauffele

Betting Pick: +1600

Gold tournaments are not won on the opening round, but they can certainly be lost. Just ask Jon Rahm what he thinks about his chances after his first round at Oak Hill. Schaueffele has yet to begin his opening round at the time of writing, so his odds are the same at this point. While he has 7 wins in his time with the PGA Tour, he is still looking for his first victory of this season. It’ll be interesting to see what he shoots in Round 1.

PGA Championship Odds: Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy and Best Value Picks

Previous Betting News

The 2023 PGA Championship, the second of four majors to be played this season, takes place from May 18 to 21 at Oak Hill East Course in Rochester, New York. Justin Thomas, who won last year’s tournament in a thrilling playoff against Will Zalatoris, has the fourth-shortest odds to win this year’s event at +1825.

The PGA Championship, like the Masters Tournament, will also feature LIV Golf players, making for a can’t-miss weekend of competitive golf with plenty of storylines to follow. Let’s take a look at the early PGA Championship odds to win the 2023 PGA Championship.

Early PGA Championship Odds | PGA Lines

Betting Favorite – Jon Rahm (+800)

Scottie Scheffler may be able to make a case, but there’s nobody playing better than Jon Rahm right now. Rahm was dominant at Augusta National, winning the Masters Tournament for the first time, and still showed up at Harbour Town for the RBC Heritage last weekend.

After an unimpressive first round, as was to be expected, he played great golf the rest of the way, finishing T15 at 11-under.

Rahm is now a Masters and U.S. Open champion and needs just a PGA Championship and Open Championship to complete the career Grand Slam. His best result at the PGA Championship was a T4 in 2018.

Who to Fade – Rory McIlroy (+1025)

There’s no better story than Rory McIlroy winning the PGA Championship. He was the PGA Tour’s most vocal supporter a year ago when players began defecting to LIV and has mostly played well since.

However, McIlroy has struggled as of late, and it’s perhaps looking as though he’s being passed by younger stars like Rahm, Scheffler, Collin Morikawa, etc.

McIlroy missed the cut at the Masters and THE PLAYERS Championship. The 33-year-old was the only player to withdraw from the RBC Heritage, which was surprising considering he had an added two days of rest than many other players who committed.

McIlroy finished T8 at Oak Hill in the 2013 PGA Championship.

Best Value Picks – Xander Schauffele (+2200) and Keegan Bradley (+7000)

Xander Schauffele, at +2200, is great value to win the 2023 PGA Championship. The Olympic gold medalist is seemingly in every tournament in which he participates but has yet to win a major championship.

He’s one of the players on Tour who feels like they’re ready to break through, and evidence suggests that might be the case – Schauffele finished fourth at the RBC Heritage and T10 at the Masters Tournament.

Looking further down the board, there’s decent value in Keegan Bradley at +7000. The 36-year-old is having one of the best years of his career and is fourth in the FedEx Cup Standings. He finished T23 at the Masters, won the ZOZO Championship, and finished second at the Farmers Insurance Open.
