Why Bet on Memphis?
Not only were the Grizzlies routed in Game 3 of this playoff series 142-112 on Saturday, they saw star Ja Morant go limping off with about six minutes remaining and he’s not likely to play here. The Dubs’ Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins trapped Morant near half court before Wiggins was called for a foul with 6:55 left. Morant would sub out with 6:19 left and the Warriors up by 17 before walking back to the locker room. Morant tweeted “broke the code,” with video of Poole grabbing his knee on the play. Morant had 34 points, 7 assists and 3 steals in 36 minutes.
“It was a basketball play when we doubled him,” Poole said. “And I hit the ball, and I was going for the ball. I mean, obviously, you don’t want to see anybody get hurt. I’m not even that type of player. I respect everybody.”
Morant has averaged 38.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 8.3 assists and 3.00 steals in 38.3 minutes while shooting 50.6% from the field, 43.3% from 3-point range and 85.7% from the free throw line during the Western Conference Semifinals. His 115 total points in Games 1-3 are the most ever in the first three games of a Western Conference Semifinal series (previous: 112 points by Shaquille O’Neal in 2000 and Donovan Mitchell in 2021).
Tyus Jones would start in his place. He easily led the NBA during the regular season with an NBA-record 7.02 assist-to-turnover ratio, his fourth straight season leading that category. only other player in NBA history to lead the league in the category in four straight seasons is Chris Paul. Jones had 18 games with 5+ assists without a turnover, the most in the NBA this season.
Ziaire Williams got the start on Saturday with Dillon Brooks suspended, but only accounted for seven points, four rebounds and one assist. Brooks will be back for Game 4.
Desmond Bane added 16 points with three rebounds. Jaren Jackson Jr. notched 15 points with three rebounds and three assists. De’Anthony Melton finished the night with 12 points, four rebounds and three assists off the bench.
Why Bet on Golden State?
The Warriors scored the second-most points in a playoff game in franchise history to overcome a slow start and take a 2-1 series lead over the Grizzlies with a 142-112 win at Chase Center on Saturday. s. Golden State matched a franchise record for the most points scored in a half in a playoff game, 78 points in the second half (78 in the second half, San Francisco vs. St. Louis, April 1, 1967).
The Warriors could barely miss in Game 3 as they shot 63.1% from the field and had a 76.1 true shooting percentage — the second-best in both categories in NBA postseason history. The Clippers had a 77.8% true shooting percentage against the Mavericks in Game 5 of their 2020 first-round series. Heading into Game 3, Klay Thompson was shooting just 28.9% from the floor, including just 5-of-22 from 3, in the series. In Game 3 he finally broke out, scoring 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including 4-of-6 from 3.
“When we’re getting good shots, the chances of Klay getting hot are much greater,” Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said. “And when he gets hot our team takes on a different look. … So it’s all connected.”
Jonathan Kuminga started in place of Gary Payton II (left elbow fracture) in Saturday’s blowout win and had 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting to go with two rebounds, one assist, two triples and four turnovers in 18 minutes. Kuminga became the youngest player to start a playoff game since starters were officially tracked in 1970-1971.
Stephen Curry had 30 points in Game 3 and is one 3-pointer away from becoming the first player in NBA history to make 500 career playoff 3-pointers. Curry has made at least one 3-pointer in each of the eight playoff games, extending his NBA Playoff record 3-point streak to 120 consecutive games. Curry has also made at least one 3-pointer in 221 consecutive games in the regular season and playoffs combined, also an NBA record.
In Game 4s, the Warriors have a 31-27 record, including 13-8 since the 2015 NBA playoffs. Including the regular season, the Warriors have won their last six home games (four in the playoffs).
