At the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter how a team makes it into the playoffs, as we all know that strange things can happen once the pressure gets ramped up. For the lower seeds in both conferences, the pressure is still there, but it is not what the top seeds feel, with the weight of expectation on their shoulders from start to finish. For the teams that basically get in through the back door, the playoffs are essentially like going to the casino and playing with house money. Any win is a bonus, but a win in the Wild Card can start to build some momentum that leads to something bigger. The Seattle Seahawks come into the postseason as the biggest longshot on the board, but can they spring a surprise or two along the way? Let’s find out so you can bet on their NFL Playoffs Lines.
Seattle Seahawks Postseason Analysis: Conference Odds, Super Bowl Lines, and Wild Card Preview
WILD CARD ROUND
If you look at the regular season performance of the Seattle Seahawks, you see a team that went on a bit of a rollercoaster ride. They were streaky all season, going on a winning run followed by a few weeks when winning looked impossible. They did close out the season with back-to-back wins, but they also needed the Green Bay Packers to lose their final game to land in the #7 seed in the NFC. Their reward is a trip to San Francisco to face a 49ers team that is as hot as it gets. The Seahawks are a huge underdog and look unlikely to progress beyond the Wild Card, although stranger things have happened.
CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP
The Seahawks already faced the 49ers earlier in the season, losing that one 21-13 in their own building, so it’s tough to expect more when going on the road to face the hottest team in the league. Seattle played .500 ball away from home in the regular season, going 4-4, with their record in the conference sitting at 6-6. Since they played the 49ers close in the last meeting, it’s tough to totally count out the Seahawks this coming weekend, but what happens if they do get out of San Francisco with the win? As the lowest seed, they would automatically go against the #1 seeded Philadelphia Eagles and would almost certainly be a huge underdog. If you think the Seahawks can upset the apple cart and win the NFC, you can get them at odds of +3500.
SUPER BOWL
I think it’s more than fair to say that the Seahawks are deservedly the longest shot on the board to win the Super Bowl at odds of +7500. Getting to the playoffs is a whole lot more than most people expected from them, with QB Geno Smith being one of the feel-good stories of the season. That only carries a team so far, though, and the reality is that if the Packers had won last Sunday night, Seattle would be watching from home. I don’t see any way in which this team gets close to the Super Bowl, as I like them to fall at the first hurdle in San Francisco this coming weekend.
