Betting Wimbledon’s Second Round

Wimbledon’s second round gets underway on Wednesday, July 3.

Among the top second round matches on the ATP side, Borna Coric takes on Frances Tiafoe and Casper Ruud throws down against Fabio Fognini.

On the WTA side, Jasmine Polini battles Greet Minnen.

But before you place your bets, wouldn’t it be great to have an edge? That’s where we come in.

Check out tennis odds, analysis, and free picks for six of Wimbledon’s top second round matches.

Wimbledon Second Round – Men’s Singles

Borna Coric +180 vs Frances Tiafoe -213

Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024

Coric is having an okay 2024.

The +180 underdog is 7-11 in singles titles this season.

He heads to the second round after beating Felipe Meligeni Alves in straight sets.

Coric required a tiebreaker to win the second set, but he got the victory.

Tiafoe had to play 5 sets and a tiebreaker to get by Matteo Arnaldi.

Frances could be too tired to win this match. At the odds, Coric is worth a look for sure.

Wimbledon Pick: Borna Coric

Brian Nakashima -145 vs Jordan Thompson +124

Thompson has scored over $1 million in earnings this season.

The main reason for the profits is because he’s won 4 doubles titles.

Overall, Thompson is 19-15 in singles matches in 2024.

On Wednesday, JT has a tough match. Nakashima looked great when bouncing 18-seed Sebastian Baez in straight sets.

Even though Thompson is playing well, the favorite is the pick.

Wimbledon Pick:Brandon Nakashima

Fabio Fognini +350 vs Casper Ruud -455

Most expect the 8-seed in this, that’s Casper Ruud, to dominate Fabio Fognini.

Ruud did play well in his first match when beating Alex Bolt in straight sets and a tiebreaker.

Fognini was exceptional in his first match.

The +350 underdog dominated Luca Van Assche.

The odds difference is too wide to back the chalk.

Give Fognini a chance to provide the upset win.

Wimbledon Pick: Fabio Fognini

Wimbledon Second Round – Women’s Singles

Aranxta Rus +460 vs Maria Sakkari -625

This should be a closer match than what the odds indicate.

Sakkari dusted McCartney Kessler in straight sets in her first round match.

Aranxta Rus took apart Yuan Yue in her first match.

Rus beat a talented player, one that has gone 21-15 in singles matches this season.

The underdog can get it done and is a slight overlay at the number.

Wimbledon Pick:Aranxta Rus

Dayana Yastremska -116 vs Varvara Gracheva +101

Upsets tend to happen at Wimbledon.

Gracheva, the 23 year old rising French player, was fantastic in her first match, beating Lesia Tsurenko in straight sets.

Yastremska required a tiebreaker to get by Nadio Podoroska.

The odds suggest Gracheva has a chance.

Back the +101 underdog.

Wimbledon Pick:Varvara Gracheva

Jasmine Paolini -294 vs Greet Minnen +240

After a terrific French Open run where she lost in the final, Jasmine Paolini is the world’s number 7 ranked player.

On Wednesday, Paolini takes on a talented opponent in Greet Minnen.

Minnen, though, isn’t on Paolini’s level.

The favorite should have no trouble beating her opponent in straight sets.

Sometimes, we must roll with the chalk.

Wimbledon Pick: Jasmine Paolini

Wimbledon Odds and Must-Bet Singles Second Round Matches

Previous Betting News

Rain has been the main theme through the first two days of action at the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club, but there were still some incredible first-round matches on Tuesday. While matches on the outside courts were suspended, some were played indoors and, by the end of the day, top players like Carlos Alcaraz and Elena Rybakina had moved on to the second round.

Below, you can find the latest picks for some of the standout matches and the latest Wimbledon betting lines for the outright winners of the men’s and women’s Singles Second Round matches.

2023 Wimbledon Odds, Updates, and Must-Bet Singles Second Round Matches | MyBookie Tennis Betting Preview

2023 Wimbledon Championships | 136th edition of the Wimbledon Championships
Gentlemen’s and Ladies’ Singles Second Round: July 5-6, 2023

Wimbledon Updates and Upsets

In the women’s draw, Rybakina overcame a rough start to win a three-set affair against American Shelby Rogers. Rybakina is the defending women’s singles champion at Wimbledon. World No. 2 and 2023 Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka also prevailed in her first-round match; as a Russian, she wasn’t permitted to participate in last year’s Wimbledon. Ons Jabeur, who lost to Rybakina in last year’s final, is also through to the second round with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Magdalena French.

Alcaraz, the world No. 1 and reigning US Open winner, won his first-round match 6-0, 6-2, 7-5 against Jeremy Chardy. He’s joined in the second round by Andy Murray, who defeated Ryan Peniston in straight sets. There weren’t any real upsets, and more than 20 matches were postponed Tuesday, including first-round matches involving Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, and Frances Tiafoe.

Wimbledon Must-Bet Second Round Matches

Zhizhen Zhang (+117) vs. Botic Van de Zandschulp (-149)

Zhizhen Zhang, world No. 52, and Botic Van de Zandschulp, world No. 44, are scheduled to play around Wednesday midday with a spot in the Round of 64 up for grabs. It’s the first time they’ve played in five years, and should be a competitive match.

Van de Zandschulp is the more experienced and well-known player on the ATP Tour but is a disappointing 13-15 this season. Zhang is 8-8 in 16 matches on the ATP Tour and is coming off of his first two grass-court wins at the Viking International Eastbourne. Zheng defeated Lorenzo Sonego and Maxime Cressey before losing in the quarters to Francisco Cerundolo. There’s definitely value in taking Zhang (+117) to win the match.

Wimbledon Second Round | Bet Zhizhen Zhang vs. Botic Van de Zandschulp
MyBookie Betting Lines for the Match

Michael Mmoh (-101) vs. Maximilian Marterer (-127)

This is far from the second-round match that was projected in this slot, as Michael Mmoh upset Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime in the first round, while Maximilian Marterer defeated Borna Gojo in four sets. They’ve only played once before, with Marterer beating Mmoh in the Rome Challenger back in 2017.

Mmoh could benefit from a momentum-generating win over Auger-Aliassime, but there’s usually a drop in play after such a monumental win. He’s also not as experienced on grass as Marterer, who is 8-2 on the surface over the past two years. Marterer has won four in a row on grass dating back to the Wimbledon qualifiers, and Mmoh is only in the tournament as the lucky loser.

Wimbledon Second Round | Bet Michael Mmoh vs. Maximilian Marterer
MyBookie Betting Lines for the Match

Karolina Muchova (-319) vs. Jule Niemeier (+236)

Bet an upset here at your own discretion, but there’s certainly a strong possibility that German Jule Niemeier scores a win over French Open finalist Karolina Muchova. Muchova has been out of action since Roland Garros and faces a lot more pressure to win here at Wimbledon than she did at the French Open. Niemeier, 23, had a breakthrough year in 2022, reaching the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.

While Niemeier hasn’t had the year she might have expected in 2023 (she’s 7-18), she is coming off of an impressive showing at the Bet10Open in Berlin, where she won two qualifying matches and defeated Jabeur in straight sets in the Round of 32. She won’t be an easy opponent for Muchova.

Wimbledon Second Round | Bet Karolina Muchova vs. Jule Niemeier

ATP & WTA 2021 Wimbledon Betting Update: Nadal, Osaka, Halep, and Thiem Withdraw

Previous Betting News

The 2021 Wimbledon Championship is slated to kick off on Monday, June 28, at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, where some of the best men and women tennis players will square off for the largest slice of £35,016,000 and the prestigious tennis Grand Slam title.

As we get closer to the third Grand Slam of the season, it’s time to look at what has happened in the days leading to the tournament, which players have withdrawn, and how the draw will look like. Here is our Wimbledon update; with all information, you’ll need to place bets on Wimbledon betting odds.

Tennis Betting Update for the 2021 Wimbledon Championship

2021 Wimbledon Championship

When: June 28 – July 11
Where: All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club in London, England

2021 Wimbledon Odds – Men

Rafael Nadal Out

Rafael Nadal has decided to not travel to England to compete at Wimbledon. As one of the best players in the scene, his absence will be noticeable, as it will significantly reduce the firepower and star presence at All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club.

The two-time Wimbledon champion, Nadal, was the first to announce that he’ll be skipping the event, citing injury concerns. He has won the tournament in 2008 and 2010 and has made it to the semi-finals in 2018 and 2019.

Besides skipping the third Grand Slam of the season, Nadal will also miss the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The decision follows, after Nadal’s statement that two weeks between the end of clay season and the start of the grass-court season wasn’t enough for him to recover.

However, he is just a portion of a growing list of players who have opted against competing at the grass Grand Slam for numerous factors.

Naomi Osaka Needs to recover “Mentally”

Naomi Osaka joins Nadal as another star player to skip Wimbledon. Unlike the Spaniard, who cited injury concerns, Osaka has opted against traveling to the third Grand Slam tennis tournament of the season to “recover mentally.”

As stated by world no.2, she had been struggling with anxiety and depression for the past two years. That led to her withdrawal from the French Open, where she also opted against doing the mandatory press conferences. Osaka has, however, announced that she would attend the Tokyo Olympics.

Simona Halep Out With an Injury

On the day of the Wimbledon draw, Simona Halep unveiled that she won’t be traveling to Wimbledon due to a calf injury. She had earlier missed the 2021 French Open due to the same issues.

It’s an unfortunate situation for the 29-year old Romanian, who will miss two Grand Slams where she has been the most successful. She had won the French Open in 2018 and Wimbledon in 2019.

“I can honestly say that I’m really down and upset about having to take this decision,” said Halep.

“This period has been difficult, but to miss the last two Majors has made it even more challenging mentally and physically. We will see what the future holds, but I’m hoping it will make me a stronger person and athlete.”

Dominic Thiem Joins the List

Dominic Thiem has become the latest tennis star who has announced he is pulling out of Wimbledon. He announced his decision on Thursday, June 24, after consulting with doctors in Barcelona, who advised him to skip the next three tournaments while he recovers from an injury.

As revealed by world no.5, he will have to wear a wrist splint for five weeks to help him recover from a wrist injury he had suffered in the opening match in Mallorca.

With Thiem, Osaka, Halep, and Nadal out of the tournament, the Wimbledon betting odds have seen some drastic shifts. With Osaka opting to withdraw, Ashleigh Barty has now emerged as the odds-on favorite at +500.

On the other side, Novak Djokovic has further solidified his position as the man to beat, with his odds drifting from +130 to -115. Stefanos Tsitsipas, who was priced as the fifth favorite only a week ago (+800), is now the second favorite to win his first Grand Slam at +550.

2019 Wimbledon Betting Odds & Picks for Men’s Second Round

Previous Betting News

You know it’s officially summer when the best tennis players in the world hit the grass court at Wimbledon. We are still in the very early stages of the major event, with the men in the bottom half of the draw playing their games as we speak. The second round of Wimbledon will begin on Wednesday, with a number of big-name players through the opening round and ready to roll.

We don’t have enough space here to cover every single game on the schedule, but we can take a look at some of the top seeds to see what lies in wait for them in the second round while making some tennis betting predictions.

2019 Wimbledon Betting Odds & Picks for Men’s Second Round

Djokovic (1) vs. Kudla

It’s probably fair to suggest that Djokovic is the favorite to win Wimbledon this year and he certainly made it look easy enough in the opening round, dispatching Kohlschreiber in straight sets.

Next up for Djokovic will be American Denis Kudla, who also made it through the first round without breaking too much of a sweat. This, though, is probably the end of the road for Kudla, as this should be a game that is nothing more than a warm-up match for Djokovic.

Medvedev (11) vs. Popyrin

The #11 seeded Medvedev made it through the opening round in straight sets, but it wasn’t exactly smooth sailing, as 2 of the 3 sets in that one went to a tiebreaker.

It was essentially the same story for his opponent in round 2, with Alexei Popyrin also needing a tiebreaker and a 7-5 second set win to get through that one. I have a feeling that this one might be a bit of a tough slog for Medvedev, but I like him to get through it in 4 sets.

Anderson (4) vs. Tipsarevic

Kevin Anderson had a very comfortable passage through his opening-round game, taking out Herbert in straight sets. He is going to be heavily favored in the second round against Tipsarevic. The Serbian had a long game in the opening round, going the full 5 sets to get past Nishioka in what was a fun one to watch.

It’s going to be interesting to see how much he has left on the tanks after that one. I just don’t see him being able to hang with Anderson, who looks like a good bet to make a deep run in this tournament.

Haase vs. Raonic (15)

You need to go all the way back to 2016 to find the last time that Milos Raonic won a single title, but this is a player who is always a good pick to make it into the later rounds in any tournament he plays in. He got off to a bit of a slow start in his opening round game, winning the first-set tiebreaker before getting into a groove and closing things out quickly after that.

In Haase, he is up against a player who absolutely breezed through his first game of the tournament. Overall, though, the Dutchman has a losing record this season, so Round 2 should be the end of his Wimbledon journey.

Wimbledon 2017 Women’s Second Round Expert Predictions

Previous Betting News

With the incomparable Serena Williams sidelined due to her impending pregnancy, the field is virtually wide open for any of the top players on the women’s WTA World Tour to bag the third major of the year, much like the recently completed French Open that was won by powerful newcomer Jelena Ostapenko less than a month ago. While the field is wide open at the 2017 Wimbledon Championships for another new winner or an older veteran that is looking for a slam breakthrough (like Caroline Wozniacki) the fact of the matter is that I’ve got a quartet of tennis betting second round picks that all have the look of virtual locks. With the second round of action getting underway in a mere matter of hours, let’s get started.

A Closer Look At The Wimbledon 2017 Women’s Second Round Expert Predictions

Kristina Mladenovic -210

Analysis: 24-year-old World No. 14 Kristina Mladenovic has compiled an impressive 36-14 record on the year with one title and has gone 4-0 on four career meetings against Alison Riske, the World No. 46 who is a modest 16-14 on the year with no titles.

Moreover, Mladenovic beat Riske once in 2016, twice in 2015 and once in their first meeting in 2014. More importantly, it is Kristina Mladenovic that has the bigger game and more firepower that is suited for the fast courts at Wimbledon.

In addition, the World No. 14 reached the quarters at the French Open, the finals at Madrid and Stuttgart and semis at Indian Wells, while also reaching the finals at Acapulco and winning in St Petersburg. The outcome of this second round affair is an absolute lock.

Pick: Kristina Mladenovic in Straight Sets

Agnieszka Radwanska -300

Analysis: 60th-ranked 25-year-old American Christina McHale is just 16-17 on the year with no titles while World No 10 Agnieszka Radwanska has gone 11-10 with no titles. However, with the consistent Radwanska going a perfect 5-0 in five career meetings against McHale, the outcome of this second round pairing is a virtual lock.

Consequently, if you didn’t know before, now you do, Agnieszka Radwanska has won all five matches against Christina McHale in straight sets and this year’s second round meeting at Wimbledon will be no different.

Pick: Agnieszka Radwanska in straight sets

Angelique Kerber -330

Analysis: World No. 1 Angelique Kerber is 21-14 on the year, but has yet to win a title while World No. 88 Kirsten Flipkens has gone 17-16 on the year with one title in doubles. Kerber has won both career meetings between these rivals including her 2014 win at Wimbledon, though it took three tough sets to get it done.

Moreover, while Kirsten Flipkens isn’t real big in the heart department, she does have a skill set suited for the fast grass at Wimbly, which is why I’m picking her for the huge second round upset. Thus, I know Kerber reached the finals at Wimbledon a year ago and that she also reached the semis in 2012, but the two-time slam winner has also been dispatched in the first round at the All-England club three times while failing to reach the third round on three other occasions.

Therefore, while it doesn’t look like there are many reasons why you should back the underdog in this contest, I’m going to urge you to do just that as I smell an upset brewing!

Pick: Kirsten Flipkens in 3 Sets

Wimbledon 2017 Men’s Second Round Predictions (Wednesday, July 5th)

Previous Betting News

The 2017 Wimbledon Championships may have gotten off to a uninspiring start on the Men’s ATP portion of the world’s most coveted tennis tournament, but there’s still plenty of hope to cash in with a series of winning wagers, especially seeing as how my trio of opening round picks were virtually spot on.

Therefore, thanks to the trio of expert second round of tennis picks that you’re about to get, you could cash in huge three more times before the start of the third round ever takes place. Now, let’s get to it.

Analyzing The Wimbledon 2017 Men’s Second Round Predictions (Wednesday, July 5th)

Ryan Harrison +555

Analysis: World No. 15 Tomas Berdych is a solid 26-13 on the year while World No. 41 Ryan Harrison has gone 10-13 with one title. The pair has met twice with Berdych winning both times, even though it took three sets to get it done each time.

Moreover, while the 25-year-old Harrison has age on his side against the 31-year-old Berdych, it is the senior star that has more firepower and a game better suited to the fast courts at Wimbledon. While I’m expecting Ryan Harrison to put up a great effort, in the end, he just won’t have the offensive firepower necessary in order to beat one of the biggest hitters on the ATP World Tour. Back Tomas Berdych to win in four tough sets.

Pick: Tomas Berdych in 4 Sets

Dominic Thiem -420

Analysis: The blossoming World No. 8 Dominic Thiem has gone a robust 35-15 this year with one title while the World No. 36 Gilles Simon has posted an uninspiring 10-14 record coming into this match. More importantly, the 21-year-old Thiem has gone 5-2 in seven career meetings against Simon while winning each if the last four meetings, with each of his last two wins have come via straight sets.

In addition, Dominic Thiem is younger, faster and stronger with a bigger serve and bigger groundstrokes that are suited to the fast grass at Wimbly. Consequently, If this match were being played on clay, then I’d give Gilles Simon a much better chance of getting the upset. As it stand right now, Thiem wins and wins handily in four sets max.

Pick: Dominic Thiem in 4 Sets

Juan Martin Del Potro -795

Analysis: The World No. 32 Juan Martin Del Potro has gone 13-7 on the year with no titles while the World No. 589 Ernests Gulbis has gone 0-1 so far this campaign. Del Potro has gone 3-2 against Gulbis in five career meetings and is the pick to get the win in their second round matchup if only because Ernests Gulbis is a rusty as it gets heading into a major slam tourney.

Therefore, while the 28-year-old Gulbis has the skill set to beat any player on the planet on any given day, he’s also not the most mentally stable player in the world, which is why he’s going to lose against the 32-year-old Del Po in four sets at the maximum.

In conclusion, I know the lower ranked Gulbis has gone 2-1 against Del Potro in the last three meetings, but again, he hasn’t played much tennis this year and will fall to the championship-hopeful Del Potro in the year’s third major tournament.

Pick: Juan Martin Del Potro in 4 Sets
