There are some important series being played this weekend in Major League Baseball. In looking to make a bet or two, we’ve found a couple that we think we have a good beat on. Let’s take a look at those two series, and we’ll give you our MLB Betting predictions.
Top MLB Series Worth Betting this Weekend (August 26th – 28th)
Milwaukee Brewers @ Chicago Cubs
What a difference a few weeks make. Prior to the trade deadline, the Milwaukee Brewers looked like a lock to make the playoffs regardless if they won the division or not. That was before they traded their lights-out closer, Josh Hader, to the San Diego Padres. Since Hader’s departure, the Brewers have struggled, and now they look like a very different team. They’ve fallen into 2nd place in the division and are in danger of not making the playoffs.
The struggling Brewers will head an hour south to Chicago for a weekend series with the Chicago Cubs. Chicago has climbed into third place in the division, but they’re still miles away from being relevant in the playoff race. Unfortunately for the Brewers, they will catch Chicago’s three best starting pitchers over the last few weeks, Keegan Thompson, Marcus Stroman, and Justin Steele. On the flip side, the Cubs will avoid seeing Corbin Burnes. They’ll see Aaron Ashby, who has been struggling with the deep ball, Freddy Peralta, who hasn’t gotten back to his pre-injury form, and Blake Woodruff.
If this series would’ve been played a few weeks ago, the Brewers would have been a lock to win the series. This doesn’t look like the same Brewers team that we saw three weeks ago. They aren’t playing well, and anything that can go wrong seems to be going wrong. The Cubs are getting production from some of their youngsters, and things seem to be heading in the right direction for the North Siders.
With the Brewers on a bad skid and the Cubs playing well, this is a series where we think the Cubs can win two of three from the Brewers.
Chicago White Sox @ Cleveland Guardians
Throughout the season, White Sox fans have been calling for Tony LaRussa to be fired. The Sox have had injury issues, have been plagued by poor play, and just haven’t looked interested in playing baseball. Something has lit a fire under the Sox, and they’ve been making a playoff run. The Sox are now within two games of the division lead, and they’ll head to Cleveland to take on the first-place Guardians this weekend.
Even though the White Sox are still battling with some injuries, this is now starting to look like the playoff team that many predicted we would see all season. Even though Tim Anderson is still out, the Sox are near full strength. The pitching staff has been an issue this season, but Lance Lynn is back in the rotation, Johnny Cueto has been a huge pickup off the waiver wire, and Dylan Cease is a Cy Young candidate in the American League. These three will take the hill for the Sox this weekend.
As for the Guardians, they have exceeded expectations. Their young pitching staff has performed well, and they’ve had a lot of timely hitting. Jose Ramirez has quietly become one of the top players in the game. Cleveland has put together a team void of superstars and turned it into a very cohesive unit. Triston McKenzie, Shane Bieber, and Aaron Civale will face off against the Sox this weekend.
Even though it has been a rough year for the White Sox, they seem to be putting things together at the right time. The Sox have played well against Houston this week. The Sox fans seem energized, the team looks motivated, and we think they will win the series in Cleveland this weekend.
