The Grand Prix Hassan II is an ATP 250 clay court tournament and one of three events on the ATP Tour this week following the culmination of the ATP 1000 Miami Open, which Jannik Sinner won. While only three of the top-50 players in the world are in Marrakesh, Morocco, for the 38th edition of the tournament, it should nonetheless be an exciting event as many of the players excel on clay.
Let’s take a look at the most notable upsets through the first few rounds and the updated ATP betting odds for the tournament.

2024 Grand Prix Hassan II | 38th edition of the Grand Prix Hassan II
ATP Tour 250
Monday, April 1st – Sunday, April 7th, 2024
Marrakesh, Morocco
2023 ATP Winner: Roberto Carballes Baena
History and Past Winners
The Grand Prix Hassan II is the only ATP tournament held in Africa and one of the many clay court tournaments during the lead up to the French Open. It was first held in 1984 as a Challenger event and has been part of the ATP Tour since 1990. Roberto Carballes Baena is the defending champion, and David Goffin won in 2022. Other past champions include Benoit Paire (2019), Borna Coric (2017), Federico Delbonis (2016), and Stan Wawrinka (2010).
Withdrawals and Other Entrants
Tomas Machac is perhaps the most notable withdrawal from the tournament. The 23-year-old Czech player reached the quarter-finals in Miami and was a late withdrawal, replaced by Arthur Rinderknech. Christopher O’Connell, Thiago Seyboth Wild, and Alejandro Tabilo also withdrew from the event and were replaced by Alexandre Muller, Sumit Nagal, and Corentin Moutet. Matteo Berrettini used a protected ranking to participate in the tournament. Wild card Elliot Benchetrit is the lone Moroccan player in the draw.
First-Round Matches
Qualifying matches were taking place on Monday, but there were still several first-round mathches set, including Alexander Shevchenko vs. Berrettini and Wawrinka vs. Albert Ramos Vinolas. Berrettini is arguably the most notable name in the field, but he has played sparingly over the last year due to injuries and fallen out of the top-100 in the world rankings. Wawrinka is seeking to become the first two-time winner of the tournament.
Other notable matches in the first round include Aleksander Vukic vs. Muller and wild card Abedallah Shelbayh vs. Flavio Cobolli. The top four seeds – Laslo Djere, Sebastian Ofner, Dan Evans, and Lorenzo Sonego – receive byes into the second round. Defending champion Carballes Baena will take on a late qualifier in the first round.
2024 Grand Prix Hassan II Final Prediction
This is a tough tournament to predict considering nobody has ever won it twice and the draw is wide open with several players seeking their first title of the season. Sonego is a sneaky pick, however, as the No. 4 seed has arguably the easiest quarter of the bracket.
He hasn’t had the best start to the season, but has been in close matches against multiple top players, including Daniil Medvedev and Carlos Alcaraz, and is at his best on clay. Facundo Diaz Acosta is a good pick for the top half of the bracket. Another strong clay court player, he won the Argentina Open in February.

2023 ATP Grand Prix Hassan II Open Odds, Picks, and Tennis Betting Analysis
Previous Betting News
After two weeks with the focus on ATP Masters 1000 events in the United States, the men’s tour returns to the international stage this week with three events. One of those is the ATP 250 Grand Prix Hassan II in Marrakesh, Morocco. This event will be played on clay courts at the Royal Tennis Club and is the only ATP event of the season to be played in Africa.
The field includes 28 players, with the top four seeds receiving first-round byes. Those players are No. 1 Lorenzo Musetti, No. 2 Daniel Evans, No. 3 Tallon Griekspoor, and No. 4 Botic Van de Zandschulp.
Last year’s winner, David Goffin, is not in the field, and the Grand Prix Hassan II was canceled in both 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19. There are no former champions of this event in the 2023 field. MyBookie has odds for this event, along with the Houston Clay Court Championships and the Estoril Open in Portugal, all ATP 250 events.
Let’s take a look at the ATP odds for the 2023 Grand Prix Hassan II and some of the first-round odds at MyBookie.
2023 ATP Grand Prix Hassan II Odds, Picks, and Tennis Betting Analysis
When: 3–9 April, 2023
Category: ATP Tour 250 series
Where: Complexe Al Amal, Casablanca, Morocco
Surface: Clay / outdoor
Musetti, Evans Top Ranked Players in Field
Musetti is not only the top seed in Marrakesh but also holds the highest ranking in the ATP World Rankings in the field at No. 21. The Italian is only 5-7 on the season with a 1-3 record on clay. The 21-year-old has lost five straight matches after reaching the quarterfinals on clay in Buenos Aires in February.
Musetti got off to a great start in 2023, reaching the finals of the United Cup in Australia before being forced to retire with an injury. Before being hurt, Musetti dropped the first set to Frances Tiafoe in that final. He is 31-20 in his career on clay, reaching the quarters at this event last year, and one of his two titles last year came in a clay court event in Hamburg, Germany.
Musetti is -175 to win his first match of the event. That second-round match will come on Wednesday against Hugo Gaston, who is +143.
British player Daniel Evans is the No. 2 seed and ranked 30th in the world. He is 3-9 so far this season and 0-1 on clay. He enters this event with six straight losses and has a career record under .500 on clay.
Evans is -112 to win his opening match of this event. His second-round match on Wednesday comes against underdog Alexei Popyrin who is +104
Keep an Eye on Griekspoor, VdZ
Griekspoor is the No. 3 seed and playing among the best tennis of anyone in the field. Ranked 35th in the world, the 26-year-old Dutchman is 13-5 so far in 2023. He is 13-1 against players outside of the top 10 and won’t face any top 10 players this week in Morocco.
Griekspoor’s last two losses are to Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic. He reached the semifinals at Rotterdam in February and lost to No. 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Australian Open. Griekspoor already has a title in 2023, winning on the hard courts at the ATP 250 in Pune, India in January.
His doubles partner, Van de Zandschulp, is ranked 31st in the world and has a 9-7 record this season. The 27-year-old reached the round of 16 in Miami last week and also has a quarterfinals and semifinals appearance thus far in 2023.
Last year Van de Zandschulp reached the quarterfinals in Marrakesh and won the first set before falling to Alex Molcan.

2022 Grand Prix Hassan II Expert Analysis | Tennis Betting
Players To Watch Out For
Daniel Evans, Felix Auger Alissiame, and Alberto Ramos-Vuinolas are all attending ATP 250 Grand Prix Hassan II 2022 as leading tournament tennis players.
Fabio Fogini would also join the list of the players, but he withdrew from the event, which subsequently shifts our focus to Lorenzo Musetti, who is one of the players that might fly under the radar.
Felix Auger Aliassime
The current no.9 in the world, Felix Auger Aliassime, enters ATP 250 Grand Prix Hassan II with a 15-6 record on the year, including 7-5 on hard courts and 8-1 on indoor hard courts.
He played his last match on March 26, when he lost to world no.48 Miomir Kecmanovic (4-6, 2-6) in the second round of the Miami Open.
Although Auger Aliassime might not look as good as many hoped he would, he is still the 2022 Australian Open semi-finalist, has made finals in Marseille, and won in Rotterdam, so it’s fair to expect great things from him this week.
Daniel Evans
Daniel Evans is currently ranked no.27 in the world and has – like Auger Aliassime – played his last match on March 26, when he lost against world no.96, Yoshihito Nishioka (6-3, 4-6, 4-6) in the second round of Miami Open.
That’s not great, nor is his 2022 record, which shows 8-6, all on hard courts. Evans has also yet to win a tournament this season, but he had a solid performance in Sydney, where he reached the semi-finals. Elsewhere, he was far less convincing.
At the Indian Wells and Australian Open, Evans could only manage Round 3 and was even less successful in Doha and Miami, where he crashed out in Round 2.
Albert Ramos-Vinolas
Travels to Marrakesh as the current no.35 in the world, with a 8-5 record on the season. He is 0-2 on hard courts but 8-3 on clay, which isn’t perfect, but it’s a decent record nevertheless.
He had played his last match on March 26, when Ramos-Vinolas lost against Sebastian Korda (no.38) with 6-4, 6-7, 3-6 in the second round of the Miami Open.
His most notable achievements of the year include R2 in Rio De Janeiro and Miami, semi-finals at Santiago, and a title from Cordoba.
Lorenzo Musetti
Lorenzo Musetti is the main player we would keep an eye on for this tournament. The current world no.76 is 6-8 on the season with 3-76 on hard courts and 3-1 on indoor hard courts as the only two surfaces he has competed on so far.
His last game happened on March 24, when he lost against Alexei Popyrin (5-7, 6-7) in the first round of the Miami Open. It marked one of his four R1 exits of 2022, besides Adelaide, Dubai, and the Australian Open.
Besides that, Musetti has made R2 at Indian Wells and Phoenix Challenger, which isn’t great, but he has done well in Pune and Rotterdam, where he made QF.
Lorenzo Musetti will clash with Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the first round of ATP 250 Grand Prix Hassan II, which would suggest that Musetti is in for another early exit. Ramos is 1-0 up in the head-to-head (6-1, 6-3), but they last met in Indian Wells in October 2021, and Musetti has improved significantly since.
Musetti will have a fairly straightforward road in the top half if he can make it past Ramos, with his first notable opponent coming in the semi-finals. There Musetti is expected to clash with Auger-Aliassime, who Musetti already beat in May 2021 at the Lyon Open (7-6, 3-6, 7-5).
