BNP Paribas Open Odds to Win, Prediction, and Tennis Betting Analysis after the first week of play

The 50th annual men’s draw for the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells began last week with almost all of the top players in the world competing to win the ATP 1000 outdoor hard courts tournament. The top-32 players in the 96-player field received byes into the second round, but there has already been a few notable upsets with five of the top-20 players eliminated from contention.

The top four seeds, including Novak Djokovic, are still in the mix. Djokovic is playing in his first event since the Australian Open and looking to win a record sixth title at Indian Wells. Let’s check out the updated ATP Indian Wells odds, recap the first week of play, and look ahead to the finals.

Upsets and First Week Recap

Andrey Rublev, the fifth seed in the tournament, is the highest seed eliminated during the first week at Indian Wells. Jiri Lehecka, the 32nd seed, beat the world No. 5 6-4, 6-4 on Sunday. Rublev had just one ace and won only 64 percent of points on first serve, while Lehecka had nine aces and won 93 percent of points on first serve. He’ll meet Stefanos Tsitsipas in the fourth round. Tsitsipas is coming off of a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Frances Tiafoe and beat qualifier Lucas Pouille in the second round.

Eighth seed Hubert Hurkacz is also out of the tournament after losing his first match in the second round to veteran Gael Monfils. Hurkacz didn’t win a game in the first set and won the second set in a tiebreaker before losing 6-2 in the third and deciding set. Monfils is scheduled to play 28th seed Cameron Norrie in the third round.

Karen Khachanov (No. 15), Tiafoe (No. 18), and Alexander Bublik (No. 20) are the other three top-20 seeds eliminated from contention. Qualifier Thiago Seyboth Wild beat Khachanov 6-1, 7-5, but then lost in the third round to Fabian Marozsan. Alex de Minaur beat Bublik 7-5, 6-0 in the third round and will play Alex Zverev in a must-watch fourth-round match.

Djokovic has played just one match thus far and it wasn’t as easy as he might have expected or hoped. Djokovic beat Aleksandar Vukic 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 and moves on to play lucky loser Luca Nardi in the third round. Alcaraz also needed three sets to beat his first-round opponent Matteo Arnaldi, but followed that up with a dominant 6-2, 6-3 win over Felix Auger-Aliassime in the third round. Sinner has consecutive straight set victories over Thanasi Kokkinakis and Jan-Lennard Struff, while Medvedev beat Roberto Carballes Baena 6-2, 6-2 in the second round and plays Sebastian Korda in the third round.

Other top-20 players still in contention as of early Monday included Holger Rune (No. 7), Casper Ruud (No. 9), Grigor Dimitrov (No. 13), Ugo Humbert (No. 14), and Tommy Paul (No. 17).

Round of 16 Previews

Fabian Marozsan +575 vs. Carlos Alcaraz -1400

Alcaraz hasn’t been as dominant early this season as he was during parts of the last two seasons, but a good showing at Indian Wells could go a long way toward building momentum for the French Open. He’s a major betting favorite against Marozsan, but the Hungarian won their only prior meeting at the 2023 Rome Open. Marozsan beat Alcaraz 6-3, 7-6 (4) in the clay court tournament, giving the Spaniard one of his only three losses in 28 matches on clay last season.

Alcaraz is 8-3 through his first 11 matches this year and Marozsan is 7-6. There’s not a ton of value in betting the favorite here, but Alcaraz is a safe bet to advance to the quarter-finals.

Jiri Lehecka +160 vs. Stefanos Tsitipas -240

Tsitsipas is 2-0 in two career matches against Lehecka, but the world No. 32 is playing some of the best tennis of his career early in the 2024 season. He’s 11-6, including 10-4 on hard courts and won the Adelaide International in January. He lost to Tsitsipas in three sets at the 2023 Australian Open and 2022 ABN AMRO Open. He’s a strong upset candidate in the Round of 16, especially after beating Rublev in straight sets.

Alex Zverev -115 vs. Alex De Minaur -125

This is the marquee matchup of the fourth round at Indian Wells and the ninth match between the two talented players. Zverev holds a 6-2 advantage in the head-to-head series, but De Minaur won the most recent meeting in January at the United Cup. Moreover, they’re 2-2 in their last four matches. De Minaur has also been one of the most consistent players on the ATP Tour this year with a 17-4 record. He’s on a seven-match winning streak after winning the Mexican Open. He was also a finalist at the ABN AMRO Open.

Ben Shelton +350 vs. Jannik Sinner -700

While Shelton is a promising young player who has shown signs of being a top contender since reaching the semi-finals at last year’s U.S. Open, Sinner is in a league of his own right now. The 22-year-old Italian won his first career grand slam at the Australian Open and has yet to lose this season with a perfect 14-0 record. He was a semifinalist at Indian Wells last year and is arguably the best bet to win this year.

Finals Betting Prediction

There’s nobody playing as well as Sinner right now and, until he shows he can be beat, there’s no reason not to expect him to reach another final. He’s in the bottom half of the bracket and could potentially meet Djokovic in the final, although the world No. 1 hasn’t looked as sharp early this season. Someone like Rune could surprise in the top half of the bracket. He has played noticeably better since reuniting with former coach Patrick Mouratoglou and advanced to the third round via walk-over against Milos Raonic, so he’ll be fresh for his upcoming matches.

ATP Indian Wells Pick: Sinner def. Rune

Indian Wells Tennis Garden, Indian Wells, California
2023 ATP Winner: Carlos Alcaraz / 2023 WTA Winner: Elena Rybakina

Past Champions

Carlos Alcaraz is the defending champion in the men’s draw. He entered last year’s tournament as the top seed in the draw and beat Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 6-2 in the final to win for the first time at Indian Wells. Alcaraz beat Jannik Sinner and Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semi- and quarter-finals, respectively. Medvedev beat Frances Tiafoe in the other semi-final.

Elena Rybakina, the 10th seed in last year’s tournament, beat Aryna Sabalenka in the final in a rematch of their epic clash in the 2023 Australian Open final. Rybakina won the match 7-6 (11), 6-4. She took down top seed Iga Swiatek in the semi-finals and beat Sorana Cirstea in the quarter-finals. Sabalenka beat Maria Sakkari and Coco Gauff in the semi-finals and quarter-finals, respectively.

Past champions in the men’s draw include Taylor Fritz (2022), Cameron Norrie (2021), and Dominic Thiem (2019). Novak Djokovic is the last player to defend his title at Indian Wells. He won his fifth title and third in three years in 2016, beating Milos Raonic in the final. Recent women’s champions include Swiatek (2022), Paula Badosa (2021), Bianca Andresscu (2019), and Naomi Osaka (2018). No woman has defended her title at Indian Wells since Martina Navratilova in 1991.

ATP Top 3 Players

Novak Djokovic

The 2024 season could be an interesting one for Novak Djokovic. While he’s still No. 1 in the world rankings, he looked human at the Australian Open, a tournament he typically dominates, and could be showing signs of aging. Young up-and-coming stars like Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have won grand slams in the last year and both players now seem like they have the confidence and poise to beat Djokovic on any given day.

With that said, it’s impossible to count out the greatest player in the history of the sport. The 36-year-old Serbian, a five-time winner at Indian Wells with 98 career ATP Tour titles, is 7-2 this season and playing a bit more of a limited schedule, which should give him an advantage in conditioning. He’s 7-2 this season, although he hasn’t played since the Australian Open. His second-round match at Indian Wells will be his first in almost six weeks.

Carlos Alcaraz

Alcaraz is in a strange position heading into Indian Wells. He was due to play Sunday against Rafael Nadal in a Netflix exclusive event and, while still being one of the most talented players on the ATP Tour, hasn’t looked like himself to start the season. He lost in four sets to Alexander Zverev in the quarter-final of the Australian Open and was eliminated in the semi-finals of the Argentina Open, losing to Nicholas Jarry. He looked to get back on track at the Rio Open two weeks ago, but withdrew from the tournament just two games into his first-round match against Thiago Monteiro.

There’s too many talented players at Indian Wells to consider an outright bet on Alcaraz at this point. He needs to show a little more – and prove he’s healthy – before being a good-value betting pick.

Jannik Sinner

While last year was all about the continued dominance of Djokovic and the emergence of Alcaraz, the start of 2024 has belonged to Sinner. The 22-year-old Italian led Italy to a Davis Cup victory late last season and carried that momentum over to the Australian Open, losing just three sets en route to winning his first career grand slam. He won in memorable fashion, beating Daniil Medvedev 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.

What has Sinner done since then? He took a few weeks off and came back in time to win ATP Rotterdam. Sinner dropped just one set in the tournament and beat Alex de Minaur 7-5, 6-4 in the final. He’s a perfect 12-0 this season and absolutely worth an outright bet.

BNP Paribas Open Final ATP Betting Prediction

Djokovic is a freak athlete and has the best mental fortitude among players on the ATP Tour. He almost always answers the challenge when people expect him to start fading, so expect him to play well these next two weeks. A Djokovic-Sinner final, which would be their fourth match in as many months, wouldn’t be a surprise at all.

2024 BNP Paribas Open
ATP Pick: Djokovic def. Sinner | Odds for ATP MyBookie Betting Lines for the Tournament

WTA Top 3 Players

Iga Swiatek

Although she remains the top women’s player in the world, her hold on that distinction is fading quickly given her recent performances. Swiatek is coming off of a semi-final loss to Anna Kalinskaya at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and was out in the third round at the Australian Open. She did, however, win the Qatar Open in February, beating Rybakina in the final to win her 18th career title. She’s 14-2 this season.

Aryna Sabalenka

Aryna Sabalenka could have surpassed Swiatek with a strong showing in Dubai, her first tournament since winning the Australian Open. However, she lost her opening-round match to Donna Vekic, proving that it might not always be the best to take an extended break after grand slams. Sabalenka earned the break, however, as she didn’t drop a single set en route to repeating as Australian Open champion.

Coco Gauff

Coco Gauff also hasn’t exactly been playing great tennis since the Australian Open. The 19-year-old American, who won her first grand slam at last year’s US Open, reached the semi-finals in Melbourne, but followed that up with a first-round loss to Katerina Siniakova in the Qatar Open. She lost to Kalinskaya two weeks ago in the quarter-final of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.

BNP Paribas Open Final WTA Betting Prediction

The women’s draw is way more wide open than the men’s and could go a number of ways. Jasmine Paolini is a player whose stock has been on the rise as of late and could make a good run at the title. However, Gauff is probably the best pick. She has had success on hard courts in the US and will be looking to improve upon some disappointing results in the last two tournaments.

Previous Betting News

The Stockholm Open, also known as the BNP Paribas Nordic Open for sponsorship purposes, began on October 16 and runs until October 22 at the Kungliga Tennishallen. It’s one of three ATP events this week, along with the Japan Open and European Open.

Holger Rune is the top seed in the 250 level event and has a lot on the line as he’s the past champion and holds the eighth and final spot in the ATP Live Race to Turin for the opportunity to compete in his first ATP Finals.

Let’s take a closer look at the upcoming Stockholm Open tournament so you can bet against the ATP Odds.

2023 BNP Paribas Open Odds, Picks, and Tennis Betting Analysis | MyBookie ATP Stockholm Open Betting Preview

2023 BNP Paribas Nordic Open | 54th edition of the Stockholm Open
ATP Tour 250 series
Monday, October 16th – Sunday, October 22nd, 2023
Kungliga tennishallen, Stockholm, Sweden

Stockholm Open Past Champions

The Stockholm Open was first held in 1969 and has since been won by legends like John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg, Boris Becker, and Roger Federer. However, it has been a 250 level event since 1995 and hasn’t consistently attracted top players.

Rune won last year’s event, defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final, while Tommy Paul beat Denis Shapovalov, the 2019 winner, in the 2021 finals. Other recent champions include Juan Martin del Potro and Grigor Dimitrov.

The Top Seeds

Rune, who was given the top seed in the 32-player tournament, is one of four players to earn an automatic bye into the second round, along with Adrian Mannarino, Tallon Griekspoor, and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

Other players inside the top 40 rankings in the world in Sweden include Sebastian Baez, Jiri Lehecka, and Dan Evans.

Best Bets for the Tournament

Gael Monfils (-135) vs. Marton Fucsovics (+100)

Tuesday’s first-round match between Gael Monfils and Marton Fucsovics will be just the third between the two veterans. Monfils, 37, is 2-0 against Fucsovics, beating him most recently in 2020 in Dubai.

Monfils is just 9-10 this season and hasn’t played an official ATP match since the US Open, where he lost in the second round to Andrey Rublev. Fucsovics, meanwhile, is 12-14 this year, including 2-3 in his last five matches.

Fucsovics should have better conditioning as he played last week in Shanghai, although Monfils has been able to keep up for so long due in large part to his impressive motor and energy. He likely won’t come out flat, but Fucsovics should have the slight edge here.

2023 BNP Paribas Nordic Open | Bet Gael Monfils vs. Marton Fucsovics Today
MyBookie Betting Lines for the Tournament

Sebastian Baez (+140) vs. J.J. Wolf (-200)

Despite being the higher seed, Baez is the betting underdog against American J.J. Wolf. There’s definitely plenty of upset potential here, from a betting standpoint, as Baez actually has a better winning percentage this season (58 vs. 55) than Wolf and is a three-time champion on the ATP Tour, whereas Wolf has yet to win an event. Both players have similar winning percentages on hard courts.

2023 BNP Paribas Nordic Open | Bet Sebastian Baez vs. J.J. Wolf Today
MyBookie Betting Lines for the Tournament

Pavel Kotov (-115) vs. Christopher Eubanks (-120)

Christopher Eubanks has struggled since his surprising performance at Wimbledon, where he came out of nowhere to reach the quarter-finals.

He lost to Casper Ruud in the Round of 32 at the Rolex Shanghai Masters last week and was out in the second round at the US Open. His opponent, Pavel Kotov, earned entry into the event via qualification victories over Vitaliy Sachko and Otto Virtanen.

Eubanks is 21-17 this season, while Kotov is 9-12. They have never played each other on the ATP Tour.

Previous Betting News

Also known as the Indian Wells Masters, the BNP Paribas Open is widely considered to be the fifth major in tennis. Unlike most other tournaments, the Paribas Open starts with a field of 128 players, just like the majors, and also has both the men and women’s tournaments going on at the same time. Played in the Coachella Valley near Palm Springs, Indian Wells can be a grueling tournament, not just with the draw, but also the weather.

The ATP 1000 BNP Paribas Open is without a pair of the top players in the world this week as Novak Djokovic was not allowed to enter the United States due to his lack of vaccination, and Rafael Nadal is still injured. Those two have combined for eight titles at this event and 10 finals appearances in their careers.

Even without those two, the tournament has star power, and the ATP draw included the last three winners when the event began. However, the 2019 champion Dominic Thiem lost in the first round, leaving 2021 winner Cameron Norrie and defending champion Taylor Fritz in the draw.

Let’s take a look at the ATP odds from MyBookie for the Paribas Open at Indian Wells.

MYBOOKIE: ATP 1000 BNP Paribas Open

Category: ATP Tour Masters 1000 (Men) | WTA 1000 (Women)
When: March 6–19, 2023
Where: Indian Wells, California, United States
Court Surface: Outdoor hardcourt
Prize Money: $8,800,000 (ATP) | $8,800,000 (WTA)
Defending Champion(s): Taylor Fritz (Men’s Singles), John Isner and Jack Sock (Men’s Doubles) Iga Swiatek (Women’s Singles), Yang Zhaoxuan and Xu Yifan (Women’s Doubles)

Favorites Still Alive

With the tournament down to 24 players from the starting field of 128, the top two favorites are still alive. No. 1 seed Carlos Alcaraz started the tournament as the favorite with one clay court title under his belt this season and another loss in a final. The 2022 U.S. Open champion has proved himself on hard court and reached the semis last year at Indian Wells before falling to Nadal.

No. 3 seed Daniil Medvedev is on a roll, and he’s the other big favorite in this event. Medvedev gave Djokovic his first defeat of 2023 at Dubai and has won three straight events. He lost in the third round at Indian Wells last year but is already through to the fourth round this year.

Former Champs

Keep an eye on No. 4 seed Taylor Fritz, playing in his home event. Last year he defeated Nadal in straight sets to win the title, and he’s playing great tennis in 2023.

The draw is kind as well, with a match against No. 30 Sebastian Baez on Monday and then an unseeded player in the fourth round. Fritz could face Alcaraz in the semifinals but won’t be intimidated by that matchup, given his success at this event.

Likewise, Cameron Norrie is still alive on the bottom of the draw after beating qualifiers in both the second and third rounds. The No. 10 seed faces No. 6 Andrey Rublev next and then either American Frances Tiafoe or qualifier Alejandro Tabilo in the quarters.

Monday Matchups

American Tommy Paul is an underdog at MyBookie for his Monday matchup against No. 9 Hubert Hurkcaz. Paul is +110, while Hurkacz is -140 in this third-round matchup. They have only played once, and Hurkacz won indoors in 2021 by the score of 7-5, 7-6.

Their records are remarkably similar in 2023, with Paul at 12-4 and Hurkacz at 12-5. Both won their first match 6-3, 6-3 this week, and the crowd could give Paul the boost he needs to pull the upset on Monday.

Previous Betting News

The 2022 BNP Paribas Open is nearing the end, as only one more round separates us from knowing which eight tennis players will enter the tournament’s final stage and take one step closer to hoisting the coveted trophy.

And even though nothing is decided yet, the final few rounds of BNP Paribas Open produced some exciting results that could result in a thrilling finish of the tournament. Let’s have a look at our updated ATP Betting analysis for the final stages of the 2022 BNP Paribas Open.

2022 BNP Paribas Open Update | Tennis Betting Analysis

Rublev Eases Past Tiafoe

Andrey Rublev made easy work of Frances Tiafoe on Tuesday, March 15, when he beat the American tennis player 2-0 in the Round of 32. And even though Rublev was expected to win, his performance on the day made many believe he could be a serious candidate to go all the way.

The seventh seed faced a trickly assignment on Tuesday as he had to face the home favorite, Tiafoe. But Rublev showed little interest in getting involved in a tight affair and needed just 70 minutes to brush past Tiuafoe with a 6-3, 6-4 victory.

“To play Frances is never easy, and I’m happy to be through today and through to the fourth round for the first time in Indian Wells,” said Rublev.

“We’ll see what’s going to happen. Now there’s no pressure; I’ve done better than ever here, so now I just need to try to relax and play tennis.”

It marked Rublev’s 11th consecutive win of the season after he took titles in Dubai and Marseille. Moreover, this win improved Rublev’s record on the season to an impressive 16-2.

In this form, it’s tough to say where Rublev’s run will end, but he will definitely be the man to watch in the final stage of the BNP Paribas Open.

Dimitrov Stuns Bublik

Grigor Dimitrov made the trip to Indian Wells seven times before 2021, and he never made the Round of 16. But it seems like the eighth time was the charm, as he advanced to the semi-finals in 2021 before he had to admit defeat to the eventual champion, Cameron Norrie.

This year, Dimitros seems set to improve upon his showing last year, as he again locked in a spot in the Round of 16, with a commanding performance against the 31st seed Alexander Bublik, who he beat 6-3, 6-4 in a 69-minute performance.

Dimitrov won 41 of 51 service points and made just nine unforced errors, proving that he is in excellent form, but his journey to the top is far from over. Although the Bulgarian looked solid against Bublik, he now has to face his most formidable challenger yet, when he takes on the 23rd seed, John Isner, who made it past Diego Schwartzman (7-5, 6-3).

Hubert Hurkacz With His Eyes On The Prize

Hubert Hurkacz, who won his maiden ATP Masters 1000 title last year in Miami, has locked in a Round of 16 appearances at 2022 BNP Paribas Open with a close but well-deserved victory against Steve Johnson, who he beat 7-6, 6-3 on Tuesday.

Although an impressive performance from the Polish tennis star, it’s no secret that he likes to play at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Hurkacz has reached the quarter-finals here on his first two appearances in 2019 and 2021, and his victory in R4 now secures him his third consecutive trip to the QF at the Masters 1000 event.

However, while Hurkacz eliminated Johnson in straight sets, it was a tough test for the Pole. Still, he had a tactical advantage, as his coach, Craig Boynton, worked with Johnson previously, which just might be the difference-maker that helped Hurkacz secure the narrow victory.

MyBookie brings you a free tennis tournament betting preview for the 2022 Paribas Open (also known as the Indian Wells Masters), slated for March 12-20, at Indian Wells Tennis Garden, in Indian Wells, California.

2022 BNP Paribas Open Expert Analysis | Tennis Betting

Players To Watch Out For

Andrey Rublev

Andrey Rublev is easily one of the best tennis players in the world now, and it wouldn’t be too far from the truth to say that Rafael Nadal is currently the only player who can compare to the 24-year-old. Rublev has won each of the last two prominent hard-court events, including the Open 13 at Marseille and the Dubai Tennis Championships, so he should be more than capable of causing some noise in California.

Rublev’s talent is undeniable, and with momentum on his side, he is definitely a man we should keep an eye on ahead of the Indian Wells Masters.

Roberto Bautista Agut

Roberto Bautista Agut won the Qatar Open a few weeks ago, where he defeated Andy Murray, Karen Khachanov, and Nikoloz Basilashvili, which is nothing to sneeze at.

Admittedly, Bautista Agut has not looked as good as Rublev, the 33-year-old is still one of the best hard-court tennis players globally and is arguably one of the most reliable players on this surface.

Even though you could argue that Bautista Agut lacks the talent to compete for the trophy, he is a player we believe can make a deep run. And at that point, only an upset win or two are enough to go all the way.

Alexander Zverev

Alexander Zverev is an elite-level player and someone many will want to bet on for this tournament; however, he has not looked that good in Australia. He bounced back with a finals appearance at Open Sud De France but followed that up with an early exit from the Mexican Open, where he got disqualified for his embarrassing behavior.

Zverev is undeniably one of the best players on tour, but he can be very inconsistent on hard courts. Moreover, the fan base won’t be on his side for a while longer following the incident in Mexico, which will only add to the troubles he has delivering in big tournaments.

Rafael Nadal

Many excellent players will attend the 2022 Paribas Open, but if you had to pick a tennis player who is most likely to go all the way, it’s hard to look past Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard won his 21st Grand Slam in Australia, where he beat Daniil Medvedev to prove he is still a threat.

Moreover, Nadal won the Mexican Open a couple of weeks ago, where he first defeated Medvedev (6-3, 6-3) in the semis and then added a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Norrie in the finals. Medvedev was long regarded as the best hard-court tennis player in the world, but seeing how he has lost against Nadal twice since the start of the season, we might as well give that tag to the 35-year-old.

Rafael Nadal is currently playing at such a high level and with such efficiency that it’s hard to doubt him and his chances to win a trophy in California.

Daniil Medvedev was considered one of the main favorites to win the 2021 BNP Paribas Open before the tournament started and kept that tag through the opening rounds of play. Priced as low as +130, Medvedev leads the way as the most likely tennis player to hoist the trophy.

Although you can’t deny Medvedev’s quality as one of the top players in the world, he is by no means the only contender for the 2021 BNP Paribas Open title. Closely followed by Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas, Medvedev’s success is not guaranteed, especially considering he has nearly lost to Zverev earlier this year and has kneeled to Tsitsipas in the 2021 French Open quarter-finals.

Alexander Zverev

Priced as the second-favorite to win the 2021 BNP Paribas Open, the 24-year-old German tennis player deserves some attention. In September, Zverev made it to the semi-finals of the 2021 US Open, where he nearly eliminated the current world no.1, Novak Djokovic (6-4, 2-6, 4-6, 6-4, 2-6), but that’s not everything he has achieved on the year.

Zverev has also won the Cincinnati Masters in late August, reached Round of 16 at the 2021 Wimbledon, and the semi-finals of the 2021 French Open.

Ranked fourth on the ATP Rankings, Zverev has proven time and time again that he can compete against the best tennis players in the world. And while he has not beaten Medvedev once since August 2018, it’s only a matter of time before the German tennis star changes that.

Stefanos Tsitsipas

The Greek tennis star is priced as high as +650 to win, which may seem a bit high considering he has made it to the finals of the 2021 French open. However, it has become apparent that Tsitsipas has lost his form since that loss.

What exactly happened with Tsitsipas is anyone’s guess, but he seemed broken since losing his shot at the Grand Slam title. He’s definitely the favorite in the lower half of the draw; however, unless the Greek finds his form, there is a good chance he could crash out early.

On a more positive note, Tsitsipas has done well against the leading two candidates to win the title, so there is a world where he proves us otherwise. But based on what we have seen from him lately, it’s unlikely he will manage to reach deep enough.

Casper Ruud

If you’re looking for a longshot bet to win the 2021 BNP Paribas Open, Casper Ruud just might fit the bill. The Norwegian has recently won a title in San Diego, which just might be a breakthrough moment for the 22-year-old as he chases another piece of silverware this week.

There are certainly some doubts about Ruud, however. He has been long regarded as only a serious contender on clay but has since proven that he can hold his own on all surfaces on any given day.

Admittedly, Ruud will have to find a higher level to win the 2021 BNP Paribas Open, which might be beyond him. Still, considering the improvement Ruud has been showing across the latest months, it wouldn’t be too shocking to see him reach the finals and take on Medvedev for all the marbles.

Tennis Betting Preview for ATP 2021 BNP Paribas Open

When: October 4-17
Where: Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, California, United States

All The Eyes on Medvedev

The 2021 BNB Paribas Open will feature some of the best ATP tennis players in the world, including the 2021 U.S. Open champion, Daniil Medvedev, who has received the top seed.

The 25-year-old Russian is expected to shine in Indian Wells as the top-rated player at the tournament and one of the most in-form tennis players in the world. Although he hasn’t won as much as Novak Djokovic (who won’t attend the tournament) in 2021, Medvedev has done enough to deserve respect.

Besides his victory at the 2021 U.S. Open, Medvedev has also reached R4 in Wimbledon, quarter-finals at the 2021 French Open, and made finals in Australia. What’s even more impressive, however, is Medvedev’s record on hard courts.

Across 35 hard-court games in 2021, Medvedev has lost only four (31/4) and is 48/10 on the year across all surfaces. Although Medvedev has long been regarded as a hard-court specialist (74.06% career win rate), he has seemingly found a new gear this year.

With a 31/4 record, Medvedev is enjoying one of the best seasons of his career – he managed 14/4 on hard courts in 2020 and 34/8 in 2019. Will he manage to keep his wheels spinning is anyone’s guess, but with the excellent form the Russian has been showing, it’s hard to doubt his chances to win the 2021 BNP Paribas Open.

Tsitsipas Shouldn’t Be Ignored

Stefanos Tsitsipas enters the 2021 BNP Paribas Open as the second-seeded player and current world no.3.

The Greek tennis player might not have won a single Grand Slam title on the year; he has done well enough.

Tsitsipas has made it to the semi-finals in Australia and made his first Grand Slam finals in France, where he lost to Djokovic.

His last two attempts at his first Grand Slam title hadn’t gone as expected, with an R1 exit from the 2021 Wimbledon and R3 exit from the 2021 U.S. Open.

Despite his lack of Grand Slam titles, Tsitsipas has made it to the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Masters and Canadian Open and has reached the quarter-finals of the German Open.

What’s more, Tsitsipas tends to do well on hard courts, where he is 24/7 on the year and holds a respectable 64.54% career win rate. Not as good as Medvedev, but Tsitsipas deserves some attention.

Zverev Is a Serious Threat

The current no.4, Alexander Zverev should be considered a serious threat for the 2021 BNP Paribas Open. Like Tsitsipas, Zverev has not won a single Grand Slam on the year, but he has come close three times – QF in Australis and two SF in U.S. and France.

Besides his excellent Grand Slam showings, Zverev has also won Cincinnati Masters and the Madrid Open. What’s more, he made it to the quarter-finals at the 2021 Italian Open and finals of the Mexican Open.

Evidently, Zverev has the talent to compete for the titles, and he is also fairly efficient on hard courts. The German player is 26/5 on the surface in 2021 and has a 66.12% career win rate.

However, the latter number might be a bit misleading since Zverev has only recently found traction on hard courts – 12/7 in 2020, 23/10 in 2019, and 26/12 in 2018. Zverev is improving at a very fast rate, and if he can keep it up, it’s only a matter of time before he wins his first Grand Slam.
