The Pittsburgh Steelers have won an amazing 19 straight regular-season games against the Cleveland Browns, but that streak definitely could end Monday night as the Browns are short road favorites on the NFL Week 2 odds.

Series History
The Steelers and Browns have met 143 times dating back to 1950. Of those 143 matchups, only three have been in the postseason. Pittsburgh is 2-1 in the playoffs against the Browns. Overall, this series sits at 80-62-1 in favor of the Steelers. Mike Tomlin is 25-6-1 in his career against the Browns.
Why Bet on Cleveland?
The Browns are seeking their 1st 2-0 start since 1993, the longest drought without a 2-0 start in NFL history (26 seasons). Cleveland knocked off Cincinnati 24-3 in Week 1 as the defense held Joe Burrow to career lows in pass yards (82) & completion pct (45.2) in Week 1.
Cleveland QB Deshaun Watson completed 16 of 29 passes for 154 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also rushed five times for 45 yards, one rushing touchdown and a two-point conversion. While Watson was effective as a runner, he struggled to generate much through the air and was intercepted in the third quarter, though he bounced back with a three-yard touchdown pass to Harrison Bryant in the fourth quarter. The weather was not great.
Nick Chubb rushed 18 times for 106 yards and caught all four of his targets for 21 yards in the win. Chubb topped 100 yards on the ground after doing so seven times last season, and his four catches would have been Chubb’s second-highest total in 2022. He now goes against a Steelers team that just allowed 152 rushing yards and a touchdown to San Francisco RB Christian McCaffrey.
Cleveland will be without No. 1 receiver Amari Cooper for Monday’s game and Pro Bowl offensive tackle Jack Conklin for the season. Conklin tore his ACL in the opener. In December, Conklin agreed to a four-year, $60 million extension that included $31 million fully guaranteed. Conklin is a two-time First Team All-Pro (one with the Titans and one with the Browns), and has started in all 94 NFL games he has played in.
Dawand Jones will take over. The Browns selected Jones in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft and is quickly getting introduced to the NFL. Yet, he felt equipped heading into the first week of the regular season, as well as stepping into the game after Conklin’s injury in the second quarter. Jones will draw another tough assignment of edge rusher T.J. Watt when the Browns face the Steelers in Monday Night Football for Week 2. Watt has 15 career sacks against the Browns.
As for Cooper, he “aggravated” his groin in Saturday’s practice and is now listed as questionable. Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said the injury happened late in Saturday’s workout and that Cooper had to go inside with the training staff before practice ended. He led the Browns with 78 receptions for 1,160 yards and nine touchdowns while playing in every game last year and had three catches for 37 yards in Week 1. The wide receiver room is deep, as the Browns have other options in Elijah Moore, Marquise Goodwin, David Bell and Cedric Tillman. But they would miss Cooper’s presence on the field.
“I feel like we got a group to where everyone should know everything,” Moore said on Saturday. “I’m pretty confident in every last one of those guys.”

Why Bet on Pittsburgh?
Pittsburgh was dominated Week 1 in a 30-7 home loss to San Francisco. Kenny Pickett completed 31 of 46 pass attempts for 232 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions while rushing once for four yards. Pickett labored through Pittsburgh’s blowout loss. He knows he missed some early opportunities and made some avoidable mistakes. He’s also well aware of the fact he cannot afford another clunker of an outing if the Steelers hope to get back on track.
But it won’t be easy as Cleveland’s defense dominated in the Browns’ 24-3 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1, limiting Joe Burrow — the NFL’s new highest-paid player — to just 82 passing yards and the worst completion percentage over expected of his career (-13.9 percent), per Next Gen Stats.
Pickett will not have No. 1 WR Diontae Johnson due to a hamstring injury. Johnson caught three of six targets for 48 yards in last Sunday’s loss, injuring the hamstring on a 26-yard catch and run early in the third quarter. With Johnson out for a spell, the Steelers’ offense will rely on second-year receiver George Pickens and veteran Allen Robinson. The development also should mean more reps for speedy 2022 fourth-round pick Calvin Austin.
In addition, Pro Bowl defensive lineman Cameron Heyward will miss multiple weeks after suffering a groin injury. Heyward has made six straight Pro Bowls entering 2023 and is coming off consecutive 10-plus sack seasons. The 34-year-old’s run-stuffing ability along the D-line often go underappreciated and the focus of his presence from opposing teams has aided T.J. Watt’s meteoric rise as an elite pass rusher in recent years. Isaiah Loudermilk and second-round rookie Keannu Benton figure to get more playing time with Heyward out, but the experience and leadership of the 13-year veteran is irreplaceable.
The Steelers have amazingly won 20 straight home games on Monday Night Football, the longest streak ever in MNF.
