Last Season
Buffalo lost at Tennessee 42-16 on a Tuesday last year. Yes, Tuesday. The game had to be pushed back due to COVID. Ryan Tannehill threw for three scores and rushed for one to lead the Titans. They forced three turnovers and converted all of them into touchdowns. Tennessee made six trips to the red zone and scored a touchdown on each of them. The Titans overcame the Bills going 13-for-17 on third downs. Tennessee was 6-for-10 on third downs and 1-for-1 on fourth downs.
Why Bet on Buffalo?
Buffalo (4-1) comes off a huge win at Kansas City in Week 5, 38-20. Josh Allen completed 15-of-26 passes for 315 yards and three touchdowns, adding 59 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. Over his career (2018-21), the Bills are 18-0 in games when Allen registers both a rushing and passing touchdown. Allen has now won eight road starts since the beginning of 2020, tied for second in the NFL. Only Patrick Mahomes (10) has won more in that period.
As Allen enters the 50th game of his young career on Monday, he’s already the only quarterback in league history to throw for 11,000-plus yards, run for 1,700-plus yards and have more than 100 total touchdowns. He’s also currently one rushing touchdown behind Cam Newton (28) for most rushing touchdowns in a quarterback’s first 50 games.
Star wideout Stefon Diggs caught 2-of-5 targets for 69 yards. Diggs caught a 61-yarder in the first half but didn’t do much besides that. He had the fifth most downfield targets among wide receivers through Week 5. He has converted just four of those downfield looks for 170 yards. Diggs leads Buffalo in target share (27 percent) and air yards share (36 percent). The Titans allow 12.5 yards per completion, the league’s fourth highest rate.
Buffalo leads the NFL in both points scored per game (34.4) and fewest points allowed per game (12.8). Buffalo also ranks first in takeaways (15) and turnover margin (plus-11). It can become first team since the 2012-13 Denver Broncos with 35-plus points in five consecutive games.
Top linebacker Matt Milano missed the Chiefs game but will play Monday. He leads the team with six tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries. He has 19 tackles, three quarterbacks hits and 1.0 sack in four games. Although the Bills beat the Chiefs without Milano’s help, he’s still one of the most important players on the defense.
Why Bet on Tennessee?
The Titans won at Jacksonville 37-19 in week 5 as NFL rushing leader Derrick Henry rushed for 130 yards and three touchdowns. Henry has five career games with at least 100 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns, tied with Joe Morris (five games) and Adrian Peterson (five) for the third-most by a player in his first six seasons in the Super Bowl era. Only Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson (nine games) and Shaun Alexander (six) have more.
Over his last 40 regular-season games, since Week 14 of 2018, Henry has 40 rushing touchdowns and 4,792 rushing yards, the most rushing yards by any player ever over a stretch of 40 games. Henry is averaging 128 rushing yards per game and has at least 100 yards in four straight.
Ryan Tannehill completed 14-of-22 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown in the Week 5 win. Tannehill has averaged just 230 yards over the past three games, but has six touchdowns over that span. Starting wideout Julio Jones has missed the past two but will play Monday. Fellow starter AJ Brown has been downgraded to questionable against the Bills with an illness. There is no reason yet to think it’s COVID-related but obviously needs to be monitored.
Brown was listed on the injury report previously with a hamstring ailment but was a full participant in practice throughout the week. Brown has just 10 receptions on 25 targets for 130 yards.
“It gives me a lot of confidence,” he said Friday. “I had a really good week. I’m just trying to stack day on day. … I want to be out there every snap. I know I’m not there yet. That will come. … Whenever I’m in there, I’ve got to do what I’ve got to do and not try to preserve energy.”
Tennessee will need better play from its offensive line to win. That group surrendered the most sacks in the NFL through five games with 20, five less than it allowed all of last season. Buffalo’s pass-rush entered Week 6 tied for the fifth-most sacks in the league with 14.
