Gonet Geneva Open Betting Picks and Analysis Update

Analyzing the ATP Tennis Betting Odds and Top Contenders for Gonet Geneva Open

Gear up for an exciting tennis showdown as we delve into the ATP Gonet Geneva Open, revealing the top contenders and their ATP Tennis betting odds. The Geneva Open, known as the Gonet Geneva Open for sponsorship purposes, is an ATP 250 clay court tournament held in Geneva, Switzerland from May 18 to 25.

The tournament comes on the heels of two Masters 1000 events – the Mutua Madrid Open and Italian Open – and is one week before the French Open, so it’s a bit of a diminished field with one exception: Novak Djokovic.

Top 3 Players

Novak Djokovic

At this point in his career, Djokovic has largely avoided ATP 250 and even 500 level events. He has only played in the Australian Open, BNP Paribas Open, Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, and Italian Open thus far, but suffered devastating early round losses in two of those events. Thus, he received a wildcard entry into the Geneva Open, where he is participating for the first time in his career, in an attempt to get his game back on track and find some confidence ahead of the French Open, where he has the second-shortest odds to win.

Djokovic is coming off of a particularly crushing loss to Alejandro Tabilo in the Round of 32 at the Italian Open. He called his play concerning after the match and is clearly searching for answers in Geneva. He has a surprising 12-5 record this season and comes into the Geneva Open with 98 career ATP Tour victories. He could erase this season’s disappointments by winning in Geneva and Paris to complete 100 career victories.

Casper Ruud

Norwegian Casper Ruud is also coming into the Geneva Open looking for answers. Like Djokovic, Ruud is a strong clay court player and has had an up-and-down season thus far. He performed better than he ever has in outdoor hard court tournaments to begin the year, but continually came up short in the semi-finals or finals. He finally won his first event of the year, beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final of the Barcelona Open, and seemed to be heading in the right direction.

However, Ruud was ousted in his first match at last week’s Italian Open. After winning the first set in his match against Miomir Kecmanovic 6-0, Ruud lost the next two sets both by 4-6 scores. He has a lot to prove this week heading into the French Open, where he is a two-time runner up.

Taylor Fritz

Unlike Djokovic and Ruud, Taylor Fritz isn’t really known as a strong clay court player, but he has been performing well on the surface in 2024. The American is 21-9 this season, including 10-4 on clay courts. He was 22-17 on the surface in the last four seasons combined. Fritz reached the quarter-final in the Italian Open last week, losing to eventual champion Alexander Zverev, and lost to eventual champion Andrey Rublev in the semi-final at the Mutua Madrid Open. He also reached the final at the BWM Open.

ATP 250 Gonet Geneva Open Betting Picks and Analysis Update

Previous Betting News

The Gonet Geneva Open, an ATP 250 event, began on Sunday with the end of qualification play and early first-round matches. The clay court tournament, held every year at Tennis Club de Genève at the Parc des Eaux-Vives, is one of two ATP tournaments being played this week, with the French Open beginning next week.

Casper Ruud, the two-time defending champion, headlines the field and is the No. 1 seed. There are some other fairly big names in the tournament, while two-time champion and Switzerland native Stan Wawrinka is a notable absence.

Let’s take a look at the updated ATP odds for the 2023 Gonet Geneva Open and some of the first-round odds at MyBookie.

Ruud Looking to Win Third Consecutive Title

As the top seed in the tournament, Ruud receives a bye into the second round and will play the winner of J.J. Wolf and Hugo Dellien Jr. He has a fairly easy draw to the semifinals, where he could match up against German Alexander Zverev, who is looking to gain momentum heading toward the French Open – he injured his ankle in the semifinals last year at Roland Garros and was forced to withdraw from the tournament.

Ruud, 24, is a somewhat disappointing 11-9 this season and is coming off of a semifinal loss to Dane Holger Rune at the Italian Open. He lost his Round of 64 match the week prior in Madrid. It was Ruud’s first loss to Rune in five matches. Ruud is 10-4 on clay this season and has a 67.6 percent winning percentage on the surface.

Other Challengers

Zverev is the biggest challenge to Ruud winning his second title of the season. The talented German is 6-4 on clay this season. He and Ruud are the only players born after 1995 to record 100 career clay court victories on the ATP Tour.

Zverev hasn’t quite returned to form since his ankle injury last year, however. He was a career-best world No. 2 last June but is now ranked No. 22 and hasn’t won a tournament this season. Taylor Fritz might be a more realistic option to take down Ruud, although they won’t meet until the finals.

Fritz, the world No. 9, is 27-9 this season. He reached the Round of 16 in Madrid two weeks ago and had reached at least the quarter-finals in each of his last seven tournaments. He won the ATP 250 event in Delray Beach in February.

Longshot Picks

Anything can happen in these short one-week tournaments. That’s why it doesn’t hurt to sprinkle some action on longshot picks for outright betting. There are a few decent selections in Geneva, the most attractive of which is Roberto Carballés Baena.

Baena, a 30-year-old Spaniard, has 19 career ITF titles and two ATP titles, both of which were on clay. He’s 10-7 on clay this season and has a career winning percentage of 62.7 on the surface. He’ll play a qualifier in the first round and will meet fourth seed Grigor Dimitrov if he advances.

Previous Betting News

MyBookie brings you free betting preview and predictions for two ATP 250 tennis tournaments. Today, we take a look at Gonet Geneva Open and Open Parc Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes Lyon, providing you with all the information you’ll need to make picks on the ATP Betting Odds.

Tennis Betting Preview for the 2022 ATP Geneva Open and Lyon Open

Gonet Geneva Open Player To Watch

Daniil Medvedev enters the 2022 Geneva Open as the current no.2 on the ATP rankings and is the top-seeded player in the tournament. However, while Medvedev is expected to dominate the field and claim the trophy, we have our eyes set on another player.

Casper Ruud, who enters Geneva Open as the current no.10 in the world, might not be considered one of the favorites, but he has all the tools needed to go all the way.

The Norwegian tennis star travels to Geneva following a fairly disappointing performance in Madrid, where he lost against Lakovic (6-7, 6-2, 4-6), but we wouldn’t overreact to that showing. Admittedly, Ruud has not achieved much this season, but he has shown enough.

He won the Argentina Open in February and has since produced mixed results. Most notably, Ruud could only reach R32 of Indian Wells, but he made the finals of the Miami Open. Then he reached R16 in Monte Carlo and went all the way to QF in Barcelona and in the Bavarian International.

Moreover, he is the defending champion of the Geneva Open, having won the tournament in 2021 when he beat Denis Shapovalov (7-6, 6-4). So despite his relative lack of success in 2022, Ruud should be considered a serious threat for the Geneva Open title.

Open Parc Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes Lyon Player To Watch

Open Parc Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes Lyon will feature a much weaker field than the Geneva Open, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that it offers plenty of excellent betting opportunities.

With the defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas not attending, all the eyes will be set on Cameron Norrie, who reached the finals in 2021 and is the only player in the field to reach the final stage of the Lyon Open before.

He is currently ranked no.11 in the world, ahead of Pablo Carreño Busta (no.18) and Gaël Monfils (no.21) as the top-three seeded players. And while any of the three can win, we have no reason to doubt Norrie.

Admittedly, Norrie has not been phenomenal this season, but he has had his moments. Norrie reached R16 in Madrid, QFs in Barcelona, R16 in Miami, and quarter-finals at Indian Wells. And if we look further back, Norrie was also in the finals of the Mexican Open, won Delray Beach Open, and reached QFs in Rotterdam.

Despite having only one tournament victory to his name, Norrie has looked good and deserves respect ahead of the Lyon Open. Although he has been a bit inconsistent with his performances, Norrie has delivered in some of the most significant events of the year and even claimed a few big scalps, so as long as he can keep the wind in his sails, Norrie should be bound for at least a top-four finish.

At the offered ATP betting odds, it’s hard to pass on Cameron Norrie to improve his showing from last year and win the tournament. Of course, he might slip, but there are very few players in the field who can cause him issues.

Gonet Geneva Open Preview | ATP Betting

The ATP 250 tournament is held at the Tennis Club de Genève at the Parc des Eaux-Vives, the oldest and largest tennis club in Switzerland. Swiss players have won the event on four occasions, with Stan Wawrinka claiming consecutive titles in 2016 and 2017.

This year, the incomparable Roger Federer makes his highly anticipated return to the ATP Tour by making his debut in Geneva. The 39-year-old hasn’t been in action since reaching the quarterfinals of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in March in his first appearance since the 2020 Australian Open.

The Geneva field also includes Top 30 stars Denis Shapovalov, Casper Ruud, Cristian Garin, and Fabio Fognini. Ruud has reached the semi-finals at his past three events (Monte-Carlo, Munich and Madrid) and has entered the Top 20 for the first time. World No. 8 Roger Federer is the top seed with World No. 14 Denis Shapovalov the second seed.
