2024 Mexico Open Odds, Top Favorites, and Betting Picks

After the exciting competition at the Genesis Invitational, where Hideki Matsuyama stole the show on the final day to win the event,  the PGA Tour shifts its focus to the Mexico Open.  The 2024 Mexico Open will be held at Vidanta Vallarta. The venue has been a host of the PGA Tour Latinoamerica since 2013 and officially joined the PGA Tour calendar in 2021.

A season ago,  the tournament held a prize purse of $7.3 million, and this season, the stakes have been raised to $8.1 million. Tony Finau came away victorious in this event last season, defeating Jon Rahm by three strokes. In the previous season, Rahm picked up a win over Finau and two other golfers by two strokes.

Let’s take a closer look at the upcoming 2024 Mexico Open at Vidanta tournament so you can bet against the PGA betting odds with MyBookie. First, here are the top three in terms of betting odds:

2024 Mexico Open at Vidanta Odds, Top Favorites and Betting Picks to Win | MyBookie PGA Tour Betting Preview for this Golf Event

2024 Abierto Mexicano Telcel presentado por HSBC | 31st edition of the Mexican Open
Monday, February 26th – Sunday, March 2nd 2024 | ESPN+
Arena GNP Seguros, Acapulco, Mexico
2023 Winner: Tony Finau

Tony Finau +750

Finau is the favorite among the field. Finau has shown off impressive performances in the past two years of this event. Considering Finau’s recent track record, it’s challenging to make a Mexico Open Prediction without picturing him battling for victory once again.

The 24th-ranked golfer in the world, Finau has been a mainstay on the PGA Tour since 2007. At 34 years old, a successful outing in the Mexico Open could serve as a springboard for a strong start to his 2024 season, especially after securing a tie for 19th place at the Genesis.

Nicolai Hojgaard +1600

Hailing from Denmark, the 22-year-old stands tall at 6’2” and weighs 193 pounds. Despite his age, he has been on the tour since 2019 and showed off his skills with a final round 69 at the Genesis, landing him in a tied 39th position.

Also of note, he finished an impressive 2nd place finish at the Farmers Insurance Open this season, highlighting his ability to string together solid rounds. Hojggard currently holds the 34th position in the world rankings as he enters the Mexico Open.

Emiliano Grillo +2200

Argentina’s 31-year-old Emiliano Grillo, ranked 40th worldwide, presents a mixed bag of performances, making him a tough contender to predict. Listed at 22/1 in this event, Grillo is known for his ability to get out of challenging lies but has secured four Top 25 finishes in the current season. His final round 69 the last time he went out, put him tied for 44th position, showing off the variability in his results.

Next in Line:

Stephan Jaeger +2200
Ranked 75th in the world, the 34-year-old German golfer is fresh from a 71st place finish at Pebble Beach. Before that, he delivered a solid performance at the Farmers Insurance, securing a third-place finish and earning $477K. Despite flying somewhat under the radar, Jaeger possesses great talent, and an event like this provides a great opportunity for him to showcase it.

Keith Mitchell +2500
Moving on to Mitchell, the 32-year-old hailing from Chattanooga, Tennessee, played collegiate golf at Georgia and has been a presence on the tour since 2014. Known for posting impressive low scores, Mitchell recently tied for 10th in Phoenix, pocketing $125K, and also picked up a top-10 finish at the American Express, earning $254K. Currently ranked 73rd globally, Mitchell enters this event with 25/1 odds.

Thomas Detry +2500
Looking through the golf rankings, Detry holds the 67th position. The 31-year-old from Belgium, a former University of Illinois golfer, finished with a 20th-place finish at the Farmers Insurance, tied for 4th at Pebble Beach, and landed 28th at the WM Phoenix Open after missing the cut at the American Express. Detry is listed with odds of 25/1.

Taylor Pendrith +2500
The 32-year-old Canadian, who finished in a tie for 9th at the Farmers Insurance Open in January, marks his most recent event. Starting 2024, he claimed 10th place in Hawaii, earning a prize of $209K. With his college golf background at Kent State and a decade of experience on the tour, Pendrith brings seasoned skills to the competition.

Thorbjorn Olesen +2800
Ranked 59th globally, the 34-year-old Danish player, Olesen, is a veteran competitor looking to display his talents on the PGA Tour. Having previously clinched the title at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship on the DP Tour with a six-shot win, Olesen is set to make his debut in the PGA Tour this season.

Mexico Open Final Betting Prediction

When we go to make our final betting prediction for the Mexico Open at Vidanta. We are going to take the favorite, Tony Finau. Sure, he is the big favorite, but love his odds at 7.5/1. Finau knows the course well. Finau has been great at the course, and he is a veteran, so the pressure on him will not get to him like it would for others.

2023 Mexico Open Odds, Picks, and PGA Betting Analysis

Previous Betting News

The Mexico Open is the national golf tournament of Mexico. First played in 1944, it was part of the European Challenge Tour and Nationwide Tour in the past but, since 2022, has been an official event on the PGA Tour. There’s more than $7 million and 500 FedEx Cup points up for grabs this weekend at Vidanta Vallarta, a par-71 course in Vallarta, Mexico.

2023 Masters champion Jon Rahm won the event last year with a one-stroke victory over runners-up Tony Finau, Kurt Kitayama, and Brandon Wu. After a short break last weekend, Rahm is back in action to defend his title and is the overwhelming favorite to win with +275 odds.

Check out MyBookie’s PGA betting lines for the 2023 Mexico Open at Vidanta golf tournament.

The Favorite – Jon Rahm (+275)

Not only is he the defending champion, but Rahm is the current world No. 1 and playing at a level we haven’t seen since the heyday of Tiger Woods. He finished T15 at the RBC Heritage, despite being exhausted from winning the Masters the weekend prior, and already has four wins this season.

Rahm is almost a guarantee to finish top-10 in any event he plays, and he should have little trouble doing so again with a diminished field in Mexico. Yet, at +275, there’s not much value in taking Rahm over the field, even if the tournament is missing major stars like Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele, and Patrick Cantlay.

The Smart Pick – Tony Finau (+800)

Not including the WWT Championship in early November, Tony Finau hasn’t missed a cut this season. He picked up his lone win at the Houston Open in November and, while he hasn’t won since, has finished among the top 20 more often than not. He’s going to be in contention and enters this weekend with confidence after finishing runner-up at last year’s tournament.

Finau is one of the best iron players on tour. He finished last year’s tournament with rounds of 66 and 63 and, for a lack of better explanation, feels due for another win. He finished T31 in his last start at the RBC Heritage.

Longshot Pick – Aaron Rai (+5000)

If you’re looking beyond the big names, there’s no better option than Aaron Rai at +5000. An each-way bet would also be a good idea, as the 28-year-old Englishman has shown the ability to compete with the world’s top players week in and week out. The two-time winner on the European Tour has made the cut in each of his last four tournaments, including a T19 finish at THE PLAYERS.

Rai finished T13 last weekend at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and is one of the most accurate drivers on tour and is among the leaders in true strokes gained off the tee.

Previous Betting News

The PGA Tour returns to Mexico for the second time in the 2021-22 season, this time around with another new venue. Vidanta Vallarta and the Newman Course will be the host of the Mexico Open this year. The par-73 course will host some of the best players currently in the game of golf.

Mexico is no stranger to golf, as they have hosted a WGC event the last few years in Mexico City. This season, Mexico has hosted two events, the first coming in November of 2021. After a week in Louisiana at the Zurich Classic, the players are ready to be back on their own this week in Mexico.

Let’s take a look at the betting favorites and a few names to look out for this week at Vidanta Vallarta so you can bet against the PGA Tour Odds.

Golf Betting Preview for 2022 PGA Tour Mexico Open

Jon Rahm +350

Jon Rahm is the current betting favorite at +350 odds for the week. The Spaniard has not played since The Masters where he finished tied for 27th on the week. Rahm has played in nine events this season and is still waiting for his first win of the year.

Not only is Rahm the current betting favorite, but he is the clear favorite coming into the week. The second best odds start at +2000. If Rahm is looking to jump ahead and collect his first win of the season, this week would be a very good time to do that.

Abraham Ancer +2000

The native of Mexico, Abraham Ancer is in the field this week at the Mexico Open. Ancer shares the +2000 odds with Kevin Na and Cameron Tringale but this tournament has an extra meaning for Ancer. He is not shy of sharing his story about his rise to the PGA Tour and it would be a storybook ending to the week to see Ancer win in his native country.

As for Ancer’s play this season, he has not brought his best game. While he is ranked 20th in the world, Ancer has played in 10 events with only two top-10 finishes. He has missed the cut three times, including his most recent start at The Masters.

Tony Finau +2500

The two-time PGA Tour winner has very good odds this week for the Mexico Open. Finau is still looking for his first top-10 of the season but he has only missed the cut three times this season in 10 starts. In his last start, Finau finished tied for 35th at Augusta National.

Finau is a player that can hang around towards the top of the leaderboard and needs the Sunday push to possibly bring home a win. If Finau is able to hang out towards the top of the leaderboard, I recommend betting on him this week.

Rest of the field

The field is full of young players looking to make a name for themselves this week. There are also a few other names that have already won on tour and they are looking to add another trophy to their collection. Below are a few names and their odds to look at this week.
