PGA Tour RBC Canadian Open Betting Odds, Favorites to Win and Analysis

The PGA Tour sets its sights on scenic Hamilton, Ontario, for the RBC Canadian Open! With pristine fairways and a hungry field, the stage is set for an exciting tournament. But before you place your wagers, let’s delve into the PGA Tour odds this week and identify potential contenders.

The event will take place starting Thursday, and finish on Sunday June 2nd, 2024. Golf Canada will organize this event. The Hamilton Golf and Country Club, which has been around over 100 years will be the host of the event. The course is more than 7,075 yards and is a par 70.

Rory Mcllroy is the course record holder, as he shot a 258 over four days back in 2019. Johnny Palmer went -25 back in 1952. A season ago, Canadian Nick Taylor won the event.  He nicked off Tommy Fleetwood in a playoff. Rory Mcllroy and Jhonattan Vegas have won the event twice, and both did it back to back. Vegas was in 2016 and 2017, while Mcllroy was in 2019 and 2022, but there was no event in both 2020 and 2021 due to COVID.

Rory Mcllroy +350

The 35 year old from Northern Ireland is going through some personal issues. It will be interesting to see if that affects him going forward, or he rallies to play some good golf. Mcllroy finished tied for 12th at the PGA Championship in Kentucky. He was the winner at the Wells Fargo at the beginning of the month. Mcllroy has great strokes gained tee to green, and leads all of the PGA Tour in driving distance at 317.5. His negative right now has been greens in regulation, as he is 85th in the tour.

Tommy Fleetwood +1600

Fleetwood comes into the event 13th in the world and 37th on the FedEx Cup tour. The 33 year old from the United Kingdom is coming off a 26th place finish at the PGA Championship. Despite missing out on the Top 25, he still earned more than $110K for the event. His final day was what got him back in the mix, as he went with a 65 to end the weekend. Fleetwood has been great with his driving accuracy, but his putting has not been great, at 84th on tour.

Theegala was second towards the end of April at the RBC Heritage. He was consistent with 66, 67, 67 and 68. So far this season, he has five Top 10 finished and 7 in the Top 25. He has yet to win an event, but his time is coming. He has gone fifth on the tour this season in putting, at 0.686 strokes gained.

His last time out was at the PGA Championship, where he finished 26th. At the Wells Fargo, he was 13th, and he went 44th at the RBC Heritage. Conners is sixth on the tour in greens in regulation. Conners is a fun one to watch when he gets hot on the course.

Shane Lowry +2200

Lowry is a guy that has won big events before. In fact, he has a win this season on tour. He also has four Top 10 finishes and 6 in the Top 25. Lowry, who turned 37 in April has been a professional on the tour since 2009. He finished 6th at the recent PGA Championship, winning nearly $650. Lowry has been really good with the driver. His accuracy is fourth on tour. He has got to be better with the putter, as he comes into this event 145th.

PGA Tour 2023 RBC Canadian Open Betting Odds, Favorites to Win and Analysis

Previous Betting News

The 2023 PGA Tour season rolls on with its annual stop at our neighbors to the north for the RBC Canadian Open at Oakdale Country Club just outside of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Outside of The Open Championship and U.S. Open, the Canadian Open is the longest annually played tournament on the PGA Tour’s schedule and debuted 119 years ago in 1904.

Rory McIlroy has won the last two versions of the event, winning his first title in 2019 and following that victory up with a win last season after the tournament was canceled for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. McIlroy defeated Tony Finau by two shots at St. George’s Golf and Country Club for his 21st PGA Tour title.

It’s time to take a closer look at our golf betting analysis so you can get all set to bet against the PGA Tour Odds.

PGA Tour Canadian Open
Oakdale Golf & Country Club | Toronto, Canada
June 8–11, 2023

The Course

Oakdale Country Club is hosting this event for the first time ever. The property has 27 holes, and the layout for tournament play will blend the three, 9-hole tracks together. In all, the scorecard will read as a par-72, and the yardage will be approximately 7,200 yards.

Accuracy off the tee will be a premium, along with precise second shots into small green complexes that are undulated.

For many of the golfers in the field, the event will be the first time they’ve played the course.

The Field

Many of the best golfers in the field are choosing to forgo this tournament with the US Open the following week. Still, there are a handful of top international players using the Canadian Open as one last competitive event before heading to Los Angeles Country Club.

McIlroy headlines the field that includes some of England’s best golfing talent in Matt Fitzpatrick, Tyrrell Hatton, Justin Rose, and Tommy Fleetwood. Fitzpatrick is aiming to work out any last issues with his game before he tries to defend his U.S. Open title.

Sam Burns and Cameron Young lead the American contingent. Canada’s Corey Conners will be the fan-favorite and hopes to be the first Canadian to win the event since Pat Fletcher in 1954.

The no. 1 amateur in the world, Ludvig Aberg, will make his pro debut this week. The Texas Tech star claimed his PGA Tour card after securing the top spot on the final PGA Tour University rankings.

RBC Canadian Open Betting Favorites

McIlroy (+550) is the runway pre-tournament betting favorite.
The 23-time PGA Tour winner already has a victory under his belt this season and is coming off a T7 last week at the Memorial Tournament.

Hatton (+1175) is next in line as he tries to secure a second PGA Tour victory.
The 31-year-old Englishman has been playing superb golf this season, with four-straight top-20 finishes coming into this week.

Rounding out the top five betting favorites for the Canadian Open are Fitzpatrick (+1350), Burns (+1475), and Young (+1600). Fitzpatrick and Burns have PGA Tour victories this season, while Young continues to search for that first tournament win. After missing the cut at the PGA Championship, Fitzpatrick bounced back at the Memorial with a T9 finish.

RBC Canadian Open Gets New Date

If it seems like the RBC Canadian Open is being played earlier than ever… well, that’s correct. It had been staged the week after the British Open but was moved ahead of the U.S. Open this year and going forward as part of 2018-19 PGA Tour schedule changes.

Historically, the Canadian Open was held in September, but starting in 2007 it was played in late July, the week after the British Open, causing many of the PGA Tour’s top players to miss the tournament as they recovered from the challenging major. Now the event is taking over the FedEx St. Jude Classic’s spot. The St. Jude slot was empty due to TPC Southwind gaining Firestone’s WGC event, to be held after the British Open.

It’s still not an ideal spot on the schedule as many big-name guys don’t like to play the week before a major, either, but it’s still much better than after the British Open. In addition, organizers increased the overall purse to $7.6 million US for 2019, up from $6.4 million last year.

The Canadian Open is the third oldest continually played tournament on the PGA Tour behind the British and U.S. Opens. The tournament has been at Hamilton Golf and Country Club five times, first in 1919 and most recently in 2012 when Scott Piercy won. This tournament is also part of the “Triple Crown” of golf that includes the U.S. Open and British Open. In 20000, Tiger Woods became only the second golfer to win all three the same year, joining Lee Trevino (1971). Tiger’s not playing this week.

A Canadian has not won the Canadian Open since Pat Fletcher in 1954. Mike Weir nearly did in 2004 but lost in a playoff to Vijay Singh. Canadian David Hearn took a two-shot lead into the final round in 2015. He still had the lead as late as the 15th hole but couldn’t hold it. A dozen Canadians will seek to end a 65-year drought in their national championship this year.

At just under 7,000 yards, Hamilton Golf and Country Club is shorter than most everything else on the PGA Tour and the lush rough will be counted on to keep players honest.

World’s Top 2 Lead Favorites

World No. 2 Dustin Johnson was the top-ranked player last year when he won with a score of 23-under 265 at Glen Abbey Golf Course in Oakville, Ontario. Tied for third-round lead with Kevin Tway, Byeong Hun An and Whee Kim, Johnson shot a 6-under 66 for a three-stroke victory over Kim and An. Johnson also finished second in this tournament in 2013 and 2016. He always plays this event because DJ has an endorsement deal with title sponsor RBC and fiancee Paulina is hockey great Wayne Gretzky’s daughter, adding to the American star’s popularity in Canada.

Current world No. 1 Brooks Koepka is +650 this week as he tees it up for the first time since repeating at the PGA Championship – he’s also the defending champion of next week’s U.S. Open. Koepka has a share of 18th and a missed cut in his two previous Canadian Open appearances.

Rory McIlroy is +1000 as he plays this tournament for the first time. McIlroy has sputtered to slow starts in each of his past two tournaments; at the PGA he rallied for a top-10 finish, while at the Memorial he came up one shot short of the cut line.

Justin Thomas is +1600. Thomas is coming off a wrist injury and was a last minute addition to the field. The world No. 6 is looking to erase memories of a missed cut last week at The Memorial, where he shot 71-80 in his first start since missing the PGA Championship. Thomas took in Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Sunday as part of his first trip to Canada.

Matt Kuchar and Webb Simpson are each +2000. Kuchar is one of the RBC endorsers with plenty of experience at this event when it was held in late July, and he finished T-34 the last time it was played at Hamilton back in 2012. Simpson is building a strong summer season, having finished inside the top 30 in each of his last four starts. That includes a T-5 finish at the Masters and a T-29 result at the PGA Championship.

Expert 2019 RBC Canadian Open Prediction

Take Johnson and Kuchar for Top 10s but the winner is Henrik Stenson at +3000. He leads the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained approach-the-green and has five Top-25 finishes with just one missed cut this season.

Top Golf Betting Picks and Favorites for the RBC Canadian Open

Previous Betting News

Golf fans around the world are probably still a little breathless after the amazing finish to the British Open that saw Jordan Spieth finish with a flourish to pass Matt Kuchar in the final few holes last Sunday afternoon. As is always the case on the PGA Tour, there is little time for reflection, as a new event is always just a few days away. The next stop for the pros will be at the famed Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ontario, where the field will be going after the RBC Canadian Open crown.

There are some big names set to tee off starting this Thursday, July 27, and as always, there are some definite favorites on the betting board. We will take a bit of a closer look at who those players are, and we will also go out on a limb and make a pick. You still have a couple of days before betting closes on the opening round, so get your golf betting wagers in as soon as possible.

A Closer Look At The Top Golf Betting Picks and Favorites for the RBC Canadian Open

Dustin Johnson (+550)

Whenever the #1 player in a world enters a tournament, he is always listed as the favorite. This is probably how it will remain until someone can knock him off his lofty perch. In fairness, Dustin Johnson has certainly earned the right to be the darling of the bookies, as he has 3 tour wins this season, as well as 6 top 10 finishes, and over $6 million in earnings. That said, he has missed the cut in 2 of his last 3 tournaments, and was a disappointing 54th in the Open last weekend. Johnson may be the favorite here for the RBC Canadian Open, but recent forms suggests we look elsewhere for a winner.

Matt Kuchar (+800)

Kuchar may not have any wins on the tour this season, but he came ever so close to hoisting the Claret Jug last weekend, and would have had it not been for a brilliant final round by Jordan Spieth. If golf history has shown us anything, it’s that the top players often very quickly rebound from disappointment, and if that is the case, then look for Kuchar to put in another solid 4 rounds this coming weekend. He is my pick to finish as the RBC Canadian Open champion when all is said and done on Sunday.

Brandt Snedeker (+2000)

After the top two favorites for this tournament, we see quite a drop off in price, which means there is a real chance to make some money here if you can come up with the winner. Snedeker certainly appears to be a very solid pick at an exceptional price, especially when you consider that he has 8 total career wins on the tour. He does not have any wins this season, but has been around the top 10 a few times, and needs to be considered a serious threat against a group that is certainly there for the taking.

Charley Hoffman (+2000)

Hoffman is another golfer who does not have a tour win this season, but he does have 6 top 10 finishes to his name. He has also done well in the last couple of majors, finishing in the top 20 at the Open last weekend, and landing in the top 10 in the US Open earlier this season. Charley Hoffman always seems to find a way to stick around among the leaders, and if he can remain consistent though his 4 rounds in Ontario this weekend, he should be lurking around the top 5.

Bubba Watson (+2300)

Always a fan favorite, Bubba Watson always has a large group following him whenever he plays, but he has failed to really deliver the goods this season. He does have a trio of top 10 finishes to his name this season, but consistency has proven to be an issue. While this is still a big tournament, it does pale in comparison to some of the other larger events on the tour, which may allow Watson to relax and put in a solid performance. Definitely a decent bet at a longer price.

2016 RBC Canadian Open Gold Expert Picks

Previous Betting News

You might expect things to die down a little on the PGA Tour after the excitement of the British Open last weekend, but there is yet another big tournament on tap starting this Thursday, as 156 golfers head to the famed Glen Abbey course in Toronto to take part in the RBC Canadian Open. This will represent the 28th time that the event has been held at the Par 72, 7253-yard Glen Abbey course, and it’s a challenge that has been accepted by some of the biggest names in the sport. We are going to take a look at some of the potential favorites to win it all this weekend, with the betting odds for each to follow as soon as we have them available. You can check the golf page at MyBookie.ag for all the latest betting odds, but for now, let’s look at some of the contenders.

Here’s a Closer Look At The RBC Canadian Open Gold Expert Picks

Jason Day

It can be argued that this is the tournament that helped propel Jason Day to the number 1 spot in the world, as he went on an epic roll after winning it last year. Day had just missed the playoffs at the British Open the week before, and then registered a come from behind win that saw him beat Bubba Watson by a single stroke on the 18th hole. The defending Canadian Open champion is going to be the man to beat, and is likely also going to be the favorite here.

David Hearn

The Canadian was right in the mix at this event last year, and ended up taking third, finishing just two strokes behind Day. Hearn has been quietly putting together a solid season, and had now made the cut in his last 6 tournaments, which included a pair of top 20 finishes. He is sure to be the crowd favorite here, and it’s worth remembering that he had the lead after 54 holes last year.

Dustin Johnson

It’s fair to say that Day and Johnson are going to be 1a and 1b when it comes to favorites in this tournament, as they are head and shoulders above the rest of the field. If Johnson plays to form, there is no reason why he shouldn’t be among the leaders on Sunday, but it’s also possible that there might be a little bit of a letdown after the highs of the British Open last weekend. That could open the door for a guy like Hearn.

Brandt Snedeker

It has been something of an up and down season for Snedeker, which means you never really know what you are going to get from him at any given tournament. Of note here, though, is the fact that he has never finished worse than 5th at Glen Abbey, which makes him a legitimate threat heading into this tournament.

Other players who might come in with decent betting odds are Jim Furyk, Matt Kuchar, and Colt Knost, all of whom may be worth a look this weekend. In my opinion, though, this is Jason Day’s tournament to lose.
