The Arizona Diamondbacks stunned Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw and the LA Dodgers in Game 1 of the NLDS so it’s nearly a must-win matchup at home for LA in Game 2, and it is favored on the MLB odds behind Bobby Miller. | 2023 MLB Playoffs Expert Analysis | MyBookie Sportsbook | NL Disivion Series Game 2: Diamondbacks vs Dodgers

Why Bet on Arizona?
The Diamondbacks are 3-0 in these playoffs after stealing Game 1 in LA on Saturday by the shocking score of 11-2. NL Rookie of the Year lock Corbin Carroll went 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBI in the win. Carroll opened the scoring in the ballgame with an RBI single off of Clayton Kershaw during a six-run uprising in the first inning. He then tagged Emmet Sheehan for a 421-foot solo shot leading off the second inning. He has been outstanding through his first three career playoff games at 6-for-12 with two homers and four RBI.
Gabriel Moreno slugged a three-run homer off of Kershaw in the opening inning on Saturday. The hard-hitting 23-year-old catcher also singled and is 3-for-10 (.300) with a pair of homers and four RBI through his first three playoff contests. Tommy Pham went 4-for-5 with a homer and three runs scored. Pham singled off of Clayton Kershaw in the top half of the first inning and rode home on Gabriel Moreno’s three-run blast.
He then singled in the second inning and raced around to score on an RBI double off the bat of Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Pham then sliced an opposite-field 336-foot solo shot off of Alex Vesia in the eighth inning that capped off the scoring. Pham is hitting .385 (5-for-13) with four runs scored and a stolen base in these playoffs.
Seven of nine starters in the D-backs’ lineup drove in at least a run, and eight recorded hits. Arizona’s 11 runs matched the second-highest scoring postseason game in franchise history, only trailing Game 6 of the 2001 World Series (15-2 against the Yankees). Its 13 hits tied for third most in team history for a playoff game.
“It was great to come out the gate swinging it, thought there was a lot of quality at-bats just like it’s been all postseason for us,” Carroll said. “It’s taken a full team and collective effort to get these wins.”
It’s ace Zac Gallen on the mound in Game 2. Gallen delivered a strong performance in last Wednesday’s victory over the Brewers in Game 2 of their Wild Card Series, allowing just two runs on five hits over his six innings of work. The 28-year-old punched out four batters on the night while walking three. All of the damage against him came in the opening inning, as Sal Frelick drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Willy Adames added a run-scoring single. After that though, Gallen settled in. He got nine whiffs on 100 pitches in the ballgame, registering a CSW of 32 percent.
Gallen was hit somewhat hard by the Dodgers this year. Over two starts and 10 innings, he gave up 11 runs and 15 hits with six walks and 10 strikeouts.

Why Bet on Los Angeles?
The Dodgers’ 11 straight postseason appearances is the longest active streak of all four major professional sporting leagues. During the Dodgers 4+ year run of 100-win seasons, Los Angeles has notched a Major League-best 466 wins and holds a .701 winning percentage at Dodger Stadium. Yet that meant nothing in Game 1.
Clayton Kershaw is a future first-ballot Hall of Famer who has won three Cy Youngs, but he was terrible in the 11-2 Game 1 loss to Arizona. Kershaw exited with one out in the first, the shortest start of his MLB career, after allowing five straight hits to open the ballgame. The first five hitters who went to the plate against Kershaw hit balls with exit velocities of 115.7 mph, 109.6, 99.4, 105.7 and 110.8.
He allowed a leadoff double to Ketel Marte, a single to Corbin Carroll, a single to Tommy Pham, an RBI double to Christian Walker and a three-run homer to Gabriel Moreno before he recorded an out. After getting Lourdes Gurriel Jr. to ground out to short, he walked Alek Thomas and gave up an RBI double to Evan Longoria before he was mercifully removed from the game.
“Disappointing,” Kershaw said. “Embarrassing. You just feel like you let everybody down. The guys, a whole organization, that looked to you to pitch well in Game 1. It’s just embarrassing, really. So I just feel like I let everybody down. It’s a tough way to start the postseason. Obviously, we still have a chance at this thing, but that wasn’t the way it should’ve started for me.”
Will Smith prevented the Dodgers from being shut out by lining an opposite-field two-run triple off of Miguel Castro in the eighth inning. Smith plated Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman with the three-bagger, trimming the Dodgers’ deficit to nine runs at 11-2. He also singled in the ballgame, finishing the night 2-for-4.
It’s rookie Bobby Miller on the mound in Game 2. The big right-hander was called up on May 23 and made his debut against the Braves, picking up the win after spinning 5.0 innings, giving up four hits, one run and one walk while striking out five In 22 Major League starts, Miller posted an 11-4 record with a 3.76 ERA (52 ER/124.1 IP) while holding opponents to a .226 average. He held lefties to a .202 batting average.
Miller has a 1-0 record in two starts against Arizona with a 3.00 ERA (4 ER/12.0 IP) while holding the opposition to a .239/.327/.370 slashline. In his last outing against the club on August 28, he fired 6.0 innings, giving up seven hits, four runs and two walks while striking out four in the win. It’s Miller’s postseason debut.
