ATP 2023 Moselle Open Analysis, Betting Favorites, and Predictions

An indoor hard courts tournament played in Metz, France, the Moselle Open is an ATP 250 level event and the final tournament of the 2023 season.

Novak Djokovic secured the No. 1 spot in the rankings ahead of next week’s Nitto ATP Finals with another win in the Rolex Paris Masters last week, beating Grigor Dimitrov 6-4, 6-3 in the final.

The ATP Finals field is now set with Djokovic joined by Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Holger Rune, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Andrey Rublev, Jannik Sinner, and Alex Zverev. Although none of those players are competing in the Moselle Open, there’s still some quality players in the event.

Let’s take a closer look at the upcoming Moselle Open 2023 tournament so you can bet against ATP betting lines.

Moselle Open Past Winners

The Moselle Open was first played in 2003 and won by Arnaud Clement. Other French players to win on home court include Jo-Wilfred Tsonga, Gael Monfils, and Lucas Pouille. In fact, the champion has been from France for 11 of 19 years. The last two tournaments, won by Lorenzo Sonego and Hubert Hurkacz, were only the fourth and fifth years without a finalist from France. Sonego, the defending champion, beat Alexander Bublik in last year’s final.

Moselle Open | The Draw

The top four seeds – Ugo Humbert, Bublik, Karen Khachanov, and Alex De Minaur – receive byes into the second round. Gregoire Barrere and Pierre-Hughes Herbet are also already through to the second round after winning their first-round matches early on Monday.

Bublik and Humbet are joined in the top half of the draw by 2021 champion Sonego, Marcos Giron, and Dominic Thiem. Bublik awaits the winner of Fabio Fognini and Thiago Seyboth Wild. Humbert will play the winner of Thiem and Matteo Martineau. De Minaur plays Herbert in the second round and Khachanov awaits the winner of the all-France matchup between Calvin Hemery and Constant Lestienne.

First-Round Featured Matches

Luca Van Assche (+162) vs. Botic Van De Zandschulp (-200)

This is the first career meeting between Van Assche and Van De Zandschulp, the latter of whom is coming off of a third-round exit at the Paris Masters and has a 26-24 record this season. Van Assche is 30-27 and coming off of a first-round exit in Paris. Van Assche is 11-6 on indoor hard courts this season, while Van De Zandschulp has the same record on the surface.

French players seem to have an incredible amount of success at this tournament and there’s not much difference in skill level between the two players, at least not as much as the betting odds suggest. Van Assche at +200 is great value for a potential upset.
