Value Pick: Miami Heat +1275

Miami has started off the season strong at 16-11 but hasn’t reached its full potential just yet. Bam Adebayo is currently injured, Kyle Lowry hasn’t really had a chance to settle in with his new team, and Jimmy Butler has been in and out of the lineup.

Another reason why this pick provides so much value is the depth of this roster. Look for this team to mesh nicely when everyone is healthy. There is no question the talent is there. Even if the main piece went down, guys like Tyler Herro, Victor Oladipo and P.J. Tucker could carry that load, so even if a guy like Butler or Lowry gets knocked out, you can rest assured with their supporting cast.

Favorite: Brooklyn Nets +236

Sitting at 18-8, the Nets have looked good this season despite the absence of star point guard Kyrie Irving who hasn’t played all season due to Vaccination mandates in New York. Nonetheless, the team’s fate really relies on the shoulders of Kevin Durant.

Durant has seen a recent uptick in his minutes, averaging over 40 per game in his last five. Not that this has a significant effect on their championship chances, but you always have to weary—the more time on the court, the more susceptible to injury.

If Kyrie Irving comes back and Durant and Harden stay healthy, there is no reason this team can’t make a real run at a championship.

Sleeper: New Orleans Pelicans +24000

This is a major sleeper as the Pelicans have had an abysmal start to their 2021 campaign. With Zion Williamson sidelined since day one and Brandon Ingram on and off the I.R., this team just hasn’t seemed to click down the stretch.

Their lone star is Jonas Valanciunas, who has been exceptional this year, but that won’t take you to the finals. Devonte Graham needs to step up. So far this season, he is averaging 13.4 points and under-five assists. This guy was supposed to fill Lonzo Balls’ shoes and has done poorly executing.

You could chalk up his recent struggles to the varying and irregular supporting cast behind him, but regardless a guy with that much talent has to be better. They deserve sleeper consideration based on their ceiling. Yes, you could say they have hit the floor right now, so it’s only up from here. When key players return, and this team can get some solid play under them, who knows where that could take them.
