There are several different ways to approach the NBA season when it comes to making wagers.
There are some who are content playing a couple of games each day, while others love all the action, which includes taking a shot on futures.
NBA Betting Analysis
With so many games playing at any given time, there are always plenty of ways to win money by wagering on professional basketball.
We are all well aware of the regular bets that come with the daily schedule, but there may be some futures that the casual bettor might not know that much about.
With that in mind, we are going to turn our attention to the NBA betting futures that you can play right now, so let’s get to it.
^Regular Season Wins
Do you follow the fortunes of a single team, or are you someone that likes to place wagers on several teams? Whatever the answer, you can use both approaches when looking at regular season wins. Prior to the start of the season, the bookies assign each team with a win total that you can play either OVER or UNDER. This certainly seems simple enough, and while it is basically a 50/50 bet, it’s not as easy as you might think.
Let’s not forget that just about every team goes through a slump of some sort, and that injuries are very much a thing. A team that looks hot right now and headed for the OVER could suddenly go off the rails. It is, of course, entirely up to you how you play the regular season wins, but I would focus on 2 or 3 teams that you feel really confident about and wager on those.
^Division Winners
With 6 divisions to choose from, there are again multiple opportunities to win some money. One approach that you could potentially take is to look at the win totals for each team, decide whether they will go over or under, and then use that to determine which teams you believe will be sitting at the top of their respective divisions once the regular season comes to a close. Some divisions are going to be easier to predict than others, and while some teams have an early lead right now, there is no guarantee that they will maintain that pace and lead from start to finish.
Something that you could do when looking at the divisions is put together a parlay ticket. Perhaps take a team that looks like a slam dunk and put them on a parlay ticket with a couple of teams that are a little riskier. Of course, you could always parlay a couple of potential locks, knowing that you are not going to get odds as good as you would with a couple of longer odds teams in the mix.
^Make the Playoffs? Yes or No?
Again, there are a couple of different ways to approach what is essentially a 50/50 bet. You could look at the current standings and shoot your shot right now, knowing that the teams that are soaring in the early going are going to see their odds of making the postseason shorten with each passing win.
Alternatively, you could look at a team that is off to a slow start, or perhaps just inconsistent, and take a shot at them coming good and working their way into a playoff spot. It’s all about looking at the current odds to try and find value in these picks, which is not always as easy as it seems. This season is long and unpredictable, which makes this wager a little trickier than you might expect.
^Conference Champion
This is a wager that can seem a little overwhelming, but even at this early stage of the season, there are plenty of teams who are not going to be in the conference championship conversation. In the Eastern Conference, it is already looking as though we are going to get a 2-horse race between the Boston Celtics, the reigning champions, and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Strange things can happen, though, and the playoffs can deliver a shock or two.
Things are a good deal tighter in the Western Conference, where you have a handful of teams all sitting packed together in the top 6. Do you see one of these teams pulling away from the pack and getting on a roll that carries them all the way to the NBA Finals, or do you think a team is going to emerge from the pack and become a dark horse pick? If you think you have the answers, wait until the odds fall in your favor and take a chance.
^NBA League MVP
Keep in mind that when we are talking about the league MVP, we are talking about the regular season. You also need to remember that it might not necessarily be a player from a dominant team that wins it, although you would expect that the winner would come from one of the higher seeded teams.
We have seen Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets win the award in 3 of the last 4 seasons, so is he going to see that winning streak continue, or will someone else emerge as the best player in the league this season? One resource that you can use is on the NBA website, where they have an MVP ladder that shows the players they believe to be in the hunt.
^NBA Champions
When all is said and done, one team will be sitting on top of the mountain as the NBA champion. There look to be some very obvious choices at the moment, with many fans and pundits believing that the Celtics might well be on their way to a 2nd straight title.
Again, the season is long, but if you like one of the current top teams to win it all, now might well be the time to get your wager sorted out, as the odds for those teams will almost certainly shorten with each passing week.

2017 Special Props & Futures, Regular Season
The 2017-18 NBA regular season is less than a month old, so here is a pretty good look at many of the special NBA props and betting odds you may still be able to wager on, many of them with a great value right now but to cash in late May/June, don’t let this opportunity go. So be sure to check out all the NBA odds for this season.
Special NBA Props & Odds for 2017-18 Regular Season
2017-18 NBA FINALS POSSIBLE MATCHUPS
Rookie of the Year NBA Props
- Ben Simmons: -300
- Lonzo Ball: +700
- Dennis Smith: +1000
- Jayson Tatum: +1200
- Lauri Markkanen: +1200
- De’Aaron Fox: +1800
- John Collins: +2500
Right now, this award is undeniably Ben Simmons’ to lose. The Philadelphia 76ers rookie is averaging a phenomenal 18.5 points, 9.6 rebounds and 7.9 assists per game and is just scratching the surface of his vast potential as the first 6—foot-9-inch point guard the league has seen since Magic Johnson.
Big Three Scoring NBA Props/Odds
Golden State Warriors – Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and Klay Thompson
Curry, Durant, and Thompson all averaged at least 22 points per game last season while averaging a combined 72.7 points per game in their first year together. I’m thinking they’ll get better as a unit in 2017-18.
Oklahoma City Thunder – Russell Westbrook, Paul George and Carmelo Anthony
Westbrook averaged 31.6 points, 10.7 boards and 10.4 assists per game last season, but right now, Anthony is putting up a team-high 22.9 points per game while Westbrook and George both check in at 19.6 points per contest. Some sportsbooks have an Over/Under scoring total for the trio at 74.0 points per game and it doesn’t look like they’ll come close to topping that figure.
Minnesota Timberwolves – Jimmy Butler, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Andrew Wiggins
Towns is averaging 21.4 points per contest right now with Wiggins checking in at 19.5 points per game and Butler contributing 17.3 points per contest. Apparently, a lot of folks forgot about Jeff Teague (13.1 ppg) and Jamal Crawford (10.6 ppg) taking some of the scorings away from their teammates.
Will the NBA Fine Any Team For Resting Healthy Players During National TV Games in 2017-18?
- Yes -115
- No -115
Not this season. No team, including the San Antonio Spurs, needs to rest their starters much this season with the league bending over backward to both, start the season sooner and keep their star players healthier.
Will Russell Westbrook Average a Triple-Double for the 2017-18 Regular Season?
- Yes +350
- No -500
Seriously? There’s no way Westbrook averages a triple-double with Carmelo Anthony jacking up shots every time he touches the damn ball!
Will Giannis Antetokounmpo Finish in the NBA Top 15 for Total Points, Rebounds, Assists, Steals, and Blocks?
- Yes +160
- No -200
The Greek Freak is currently leading the league in scoring, but if he keeps shooting so much, there’s no way he’ll crack the top 15 in assists, although he is 23rd right Anthony t now(5.3 apg) and 12th in rebounding (10.6 rpg) while also ranking tied for 17th in steals and tied for 34th in blocks per game.
DeMarcus Cousins Number of Technical Fouls for 2017-18 Regular Season
- Over 15.5
- Under 15.5
I’m going to say that Cousins manages to easily stay under the 15-tech limit, although he has gone over this figure four times in his nine-year career, including last season when he picked up a career-high tying 17. Pick: Under
Blake Griffin Number of Games Played for 2017-18 Regular Season
- Over 68.5
- Under 68.5
In seven seasons in the NBA, Griffin has managed to play more than 68.5 games just three times and he hasn’t topped this total in each of the last three seasons. However, with Chris Paul gone and griffin being the unequivocal leader, I’m going to say that he somehow, some way, manages to top his O/U total. Pick: Over
