Writer’s NFL Quarterback Picks for the Week 10 Matchups

Cincinnati – Joe Burrow at Baltimore – Lamar Jackson

Thursday, November 7th, 2024

Joe Cool versus Lamar is one of the top quarterback matchups in the league.

The two have been going at it for about four years now with, often, Burrow winning the duel.

Not this time. The game happens in Baltimore and Lamar is working on a third MVP.

Jackson is playing lights out.

As crazy as it sounds, Lamar is having the best NFL season of his career, which says a lot considering he’s won two NFL MVPs already.

Lamar beats Joe Cool on the stat sheet.

NFL Week 10 QB Pick: Lamar Jackson

Denver – Bo Nix at Kansas City – Patrick Mahomes

Sunday, November 10th, 2024

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are the favorites to repeat as Super Bowl Champions but it’s not because of Patrick’s ability to throw TDs.

Yes, Mahomes is the leader of the team but if wasn’t for KC’s defense, the Chiefs might not be a .500 team.

On Sunday, Mahomes faces one of the best defenses in the NFL.

Denver is putting the clamps on every offense it faces.

Almost as important is that the light bulb has gone off in Bo Nix’s head.

Nix is finally understanding what Sean Payton expects.

Nix, not as surprisingly as one might believe, wins the matchup.

NFL Week 10 QB Pick: Bo Nix

San Francisco – Brock Purdy at Tampa Bay – Baker Mayfield

Sunday, November 10th, 2024

Purdy and the Niners are trying to make a late season move to win the NFC West, make the playoffs, and return to the Super Bowl.

But the 49ers are more than Purdy.

Kyle Shanahan believes in using the running game as much as letting Purdy light up opposing defenses.

In this case, Tampa’s horrid secondary, which pretends to defend against the pass should help Purdy post big stats.

However, Baker is having a nice season.

Also, Tampa’s lone hope of winning is to unleash Mayfield and his bevy of targets, especially tight end Cade Otten, who is close to uncoverable.

Baker gets the nod over Brock.

NFL Week 10 QB Pick: Baker Mayfield

Philadelphia – Jalen Hurts at Dallas – Dak Prescott

Sunday, November 10th, 2024

In any other season, Hurts versus Prescott would be the quarterback matchup of the week.

This season, Hurts is playing second fiddle to running back Saquon Barkley, which appears fine by Jalen.

Barkley will be the story in this.

What it means is Prescott posts the better stats but the Eagles win outright because Dallas can’t stop the run.

NFL Week 10 QB Pick: Dak Prescott

NYJ – Aaron Rogers at Arizona – Kyler Murray

Sunday, November 10th, 2024

Murray versus Rogers should be a great matchup.

Kyler can beat any defense.

Ah, but the Jets are a different D with Haason Reddick, one of the best defensive ends in football in the past five seasons.

Rogers is clicking with both Davante Adams and Garrett Wilson.

If Breece Hall gets involved, Aaron will have an even bigger night.

Murray faces too much pressure in this one.

Rogers leads the Jets to a win while posting the better stats.

NFL Week 10 QB Pick: Aaron Rogers

Detroit – Jared Goff at Houston – C.J. Stroud

Sunday, November 10th, 2024

Goff versus Stroud looks like a competitive matchup on paper.

It will be interesting and Houston can beat Detroit but only one of these quarterbacks is dominating the stat sheet.

That QB is Jared Goff.

The former Cal Bear and LA Ram is having a banner season.

He’ll put a whipping onto the Houston Texans’ defense that has given up big yards and long touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks this season.

NFL Week 10 QB Pick: Jared Goff

Miami – Tua Tagovailoa at LAR – Matthew Stafford

Monday, November 11th, 2024

Tua probably shouldn’t be playing football.

Yes, like Tua said, it’s a personal decision.

After multiple concussions even the great Carolina linebacker Luke Kuechly retired.

Tagovailoa should really consider hanging up the cleats.

In any case, Matthew Stafford is the best quarterback in the NFC when Puka Nucua, Cooper Kupp, and Kyrene Williams are all on the field.

The Rams will dominate this game from the outset and Staff will post another multiple TD throwing game.

NFL Week 10 QB Pick: Matthew Stafford

How does it work?

Do Quarterbacks Affect NFL Bets?

Absolutely, quarterbacks are a major factor in NFL betting.

A top-tier quarterback can significantly impact a team’s performance and, consequently, the betting odds.

  • Point Spread:
A skilled quarterback can drive a team to victory, even against a favored opponent. Their ability to read defenses, make accurate throws, and lead scoring drives can drastically affect the point spread.
  • Moneyline
A strong quarterback can make a team a favorite to win outright, regardless of the point spread.
  • Over/Under:
A high-powered offense led by a talented quarterback can push the total points scored higher, making over bets more attractive.

When betting on NFL games, it’s crucial to consider the following:

  • Quarterback Health:
Injuries to star quarterbacks can significantly impact a team’s performance and betting odds.
  • Offensive Line Protection:
A strong offensive line can protect the quarterback, allowing them to make plays and drive the offense.
  • Offensive Weapons
The quality of a team’s receivers and running backs can also influence a quarterback’s performance and, in turn, the betting odds.

By understanding the impact of quarterbacks on NFL games, you can make more informed betting decisions and increase your chances of winning.

NFL QB Power Rankings For Week 10

Previous Betting News

Let’s just go ahead and presume that Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes is going to be No. 1 in these NFL quarterback power rankings every week because he’s that good. Mahomes has 788 passing yards, nine touchdowns and zero picks over his past two games. The 2018 NFL MVP is the second player ever with at least 775 Pass yds, 9 Pass TD and 0 Int in a 2-game span.  The other was Ben Roethlisberger in 2014 (862 yards, 12 TD and 0 Int).

Power Rankings For Week 10 | 2020 NFL Expert Analysis

However, Mahomes and the Chiefs are on the bye in Week 10. So is Atlanta, Dallas and the New York Jets.

We expect a monster game from Houston’s Deshaun Watson in Cleveland on Sunday. Watson passed for 281 yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions for a 109.0 rating in this past Sunday’s 27-25 win at Jacksonville. Watson is the fifth different quarterback with at least 275 passing yards and a passer rating of 105-or-higher in five consecutive games within a single season in NFL history, joining Aaron Rodgers (seven games in 2011), Drew Brees (five games in 2011), Peyton  Manning (five games in 2012 and five games in 2013) and Pro Football Hall of Famer Steve Young (five games in 1994).

Watson and receiver Will Fuller are completely in sync right now. Sunday marked the sixth straight game in which Fuller has caught a touchdown. That streak is the longest of the season and the longest streak by any player since Antonio Brown caught a touchdown pass in eight straight games in 2018.

Houston nearly traded Fuller ahead of the Nov. 2 NFL Trade Deadline.

“It would have been hell if they would have did that, for sure,” Watson said. “Honestly. I’m glad to continue to play with Will. We’ve been making a lot of big, big plays since I came into this league, [and we’re] going to continue to do that as we continue to go the rest of this year and hopefully the rest of our careers.”

We also rank Arizona’s Kyler Murray high this week vs. Buffalo. While the Cardinals lost this past Sunday to Miami, Murray passed for 283 yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions for a 150.5 rating and added a career-high 106 rushing yards with one rushing touchdown.

Murray, who had three touchdown passes and a rushing touchdown in Week 7 and a bye in Week 8, is the fourth quarterback in the Super Bowl era with at least three touchdown passes and a rushing touchdown in consecutive games, joining Daunte Culpepper (Weeks 15 and 16, 2000), Pro Football Hall of Famer Joe Montana (Weeks 9 and 10, 1989) and Dak Prescott (Weeks 5 and 7, 2017).

Murray has eight rushing touchdowns this season, the most by a quarterback through his team’s first eight games of a season in the Super Bowl era. Murray, who had 544 rushing yards as a rookie in 2019, has 543 rushing yards this season and joins Josh Allen (2018-19), Lamar Jackson (2018-19) and Cam Newton (2011-12) as the only quarterbacks with at least 500 rushing yards in each of their first two seasons in NFL history.

Allen will be facing off with Murray on Sunday in the desert. Allen completed 31-of-38 passes for 415 yards and three touchdowns in the Bills’ 44-34, Week 9 win over the Seahawks, adding seven carries for 14 additional yards and a touchdown. In the first half, Allen was 24-of-28 for 282 yards and three scores. He also became the only quarterback in league history to accumulate 2,500 or more passing yards, 19 or more passing touchdowns and five or more rushing touchdowns in a season’s first nine games.

Allen’s completion percentage of 81.6 was the highest single-game connection rate of his career. His previous high was a 79 percent completion rate on Thanksgiving last season in the win over the Cowboys. It’s also the highest in a game by a Bills QB since Trent Edwards team-record 83.3 completion percentage game against San Diego in 2008.

One team at least will have a new starting QB in Week 10: Washington with Alex Smith. That’s because starter Kyle Allen went down with a season-ending ankle injury Sunday. Smith completed 24-of-32 passes for 325 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in Washington’s 23-20, Week 9 loss to the Giants after Allen left.

This Sunday’s start will in Detroit will almost be two years to the day that Smith last started an NFL game: Nov. 18, 2018, vs. Houston in Maryland when Smith suffered a devastating knee injury that almost cost him that leg and could have killed him. That’s why he empathized with Allen on Sunday.

“A ton of emotions going on for me right then,” Smith said. “I knew Kyle was down and knew it was serious once he stayed down. You get ready to roll and all of a sudden you see them bringing out an air cast and the cart. I know that routine well. I’m trying to lock it in, but feeling for Kyle.”
