The Brooklyn Nets would be eliminated from Eastern Conference play-in tournament contention on Wednesday if they lose a second straight game to the Indiana Pacers, although the Pacers likely will be down starting center Myles Turner. That will affect the NBA odds.

Pacers vs Nets Season Series
Some really weird scheduling between conference rivals as their first meeting wasn’t until March 16, then they played Monday in Indianapolis and the Pacers won 133-111. And now they turn around and conclude the season series here with Indiana trying for the three-game sweep. It leads all-time 112-82 including the Nets’ days in New Jersey. In Brooklyn only, the Pacers lead 11-8 all-time.
Why Bet on Indiana Pacers?
The Pacers have won two straight and five of their last seven games to stand at 43-33 this season to stand in sixth place in the Eastern Conference. Indiana has secured at least a top-8 seed in the East.

In Monday’s blowout win, Pacers All-Star Tyrese Haliburton was great with 27 points, 13 assists and four rebounds in just 27 minutes. Haliburton has posted at least 25 points and 10 assists in 17 games this season, including in two of his last six contests. He had been struggling from three-point range for a while but has now connected on three or more threes in two straight outings and in five of his last six appearances.
Jalen Smith had 17 points and 10 rebounds in 16 minutes before getting ejected. Smith stepped up off the bench with Myles Turner leaving with a finger injury as Smith led all Indiana players in rebounds while ending as one of three Pacers players with 15 or more points in a double-double performance. Smith has hauled in 10 or more boards in five games this season, posting at least 15 points and 10 rebounds in four outings.
Obi Toppin had 14 points and four boards off the bench. It was his eighth game of the year with 14 or more points off the bench, and he has done so in two of his last five appearances. Smith and Toppin may see a lot more playing time going forward if Turner is out a while – and that might be the case.
Turner injured his right index finger Monday when fouled attempting a dunk late in the second quarter. He went to the locker room to have the finger put back in place, and returned to shoot two free throws left-handed (making one). The Pacers ruled him out for the second half.
Turner was scheduled to see a hand specialist on Tuesday after leaving Monday’s game. Though X-rays were negative and he’s been diagnosed with a sprain, Coach Rick Carlisle noted Tuesday that the center’s ability to play moving forward will depend on “pain tolerance.” Given that the injury is to Turner’s shooting hand, he may be more likely than not to miss some time.
Turner has started 72 of the Pacers’ first 76 games this season, averaging 16.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks in 27.1 minutes per night. He ranks ninth in the league in blocks and set the career franchise record a few games ago.
The Pacers lead the NBA in scoring this season with an average of 122.9 points this season. Their 50 games with 120 or more points is the most in the NBA since the Denver Nuggets posted 51 such games in 1983-84.
Indiana won three of its five games during their recent road trip and stand at 20-18 on the road this season. It is looking to post a winning road record for the first time since the 2020-21 season and for the eighth time in NBA franchise history.

Why Bet on Brooklyn Nets?
The Nets got outscored 23-6 in transition and allowed .515 shooting — .588 in a first half that saw them fall behind 75-47 at the break and never recover in Monday’s loss.

“It’s pace and getting back in transition, and them getting to our rim, them creating paint touches and then kicking out and then we’re scrambling and trying to close out,” interim Kevin Ollie said. “Give credit to them: They played a style of play, and they don’t stop. They’re relentless at it. … We’ve got to understand and not be surprised on Wednesday about the pace of the game and how it’s going to be played. They’re gonna come in on Wednesday and try to do the same thing. I know our guys are gonna be ready. We’re going to give a better mental and physical battle, and we’ll come out with a win on Wednesday.”
Cam Thomas led the way with 20 points in Monday’s blowout loss and has scored at least 20 points in four straight. Thomas is 11th in the league and sixth in the East in ppg on drives (9.7) and is seventh in the East in catch-and-shoot three-point percentage (.439) among 110 players in the conference with at least 100 such attempts.
Star Miles Bridges had 19 points and six assists and continues to be an ironman. Bridges is on pace to become just the third player to play 82 games in a season for the Nets since the team moved to Brooklyn. He would join Mason Plumlee (2014-15) and Andray Blatche (2012-13). Bridges is sixth in the NBA in “clutch” points and third in the league in made corner three-pointers.
Lonnie Walker had 14 points and seven rebounds in the loss. He hadn’t been playing much over the past few weeks. However, with Cam Johnson and Dennis Smith Jr. out for Monday’s game, Walker was able to see the floor more. Not clear if Johnson and/or Smith will play here. Johnson is averaging 13..5 points and career-bests in rpg (4.4), orpg (1.0), apg (2.4). Smith Jr. is tied for second in the league in steals off the bench (63) with Bogdan Bogdanovic and behind Matisse Thybulle (83).
Trendon Watford provided a boost off the bench Monday with 21 points. The one consistent piece for Brooklyn lately has been Watford, who has scored in double figures in five straight games while shooting at least 70% from the field in four of those. He has logged 25.4 minutes per game during that stretch after not playing much earlier this season. The young point forward began the year with no role on this roster, and has carved out one as not only a secondary ball-handler and point forward but also as a reliable bench piece that interim Kevin Ollie can count on.
“I just take advantage of the work I’ve been putting in in the dark,” Watford said of his emergence over the past week. “And I felt like even early in the year when I felt like I should have been playing, even when I wasn’t, I was still just putting in the work, knowing opportunities were going to come.”
