Rocket Mortgage Classic Action

The 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic is the next stop on the PGA Tour.

The final weekend in June brings some of the best golfers in the world to Detroit Michigan.

The Detroit Golf Club is the host of the event.

The prize fund is nearly $9, and the par 72 course will play nearly 7,400 yards.

Rickie Fowler won the event in a playoff a season ago over Adam Hadwin and Collin Morikawa. He enjoyed over $1.5M.

This is just the sixth year for the event, with Nate Lashley winning the first back in 2019.

Let’s take a look at some of the betting odds to win the 2024 version:

2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic

Tom Kim +1200

Commonly known around the game as Kim Joo-Hyung, comes into the event following his runner up at the Travelers.

He was right with the best in the world, Scottie Scheffler, but settled for $2.1M in second place earnings.

Kim finished 26th at the US Open, and was in the Top 45 at the Memorial this month.

He is playing some of his best golf, and has been faring well with the driver.

He is 20th in accuracy, at 70.2 on the season.

Kim is listed at 12/1 to take down this event in Detroit.

Cameron Young +1600

The 27 year old is coming off a 9th place finish at the Travelers in Connecticut.

He is best known for his 59 on Day 3.

He backed it up with a 66,  which put him into the Top 20.

Young has yet to win an event this season, but has five Top 10 finishes and six finishes in the Top 25.

Young has been solid at driving, with nearly 307 yards per drive.

He is an up and comer when discussing winning an event.

Young is listed at 16/1.

Akshay Bhatia +2000

Bhatia comes into the event ranked 15th in the FedEx Cup standings, and is 29th in the world rankings.

The 22 year old from California has had a pretty solid season.

He just finished tied for fifth in Connecticut.  At the US Open, he finished with a quiet 16th place, earning him right at $300,000.

Bhatia also was Top 25 at the Memorial.

He will look to continue to be one of the more accurate drivers in the game, as he ranks 28th coming into this event.

Bhatia is given +20/1 odds to win this event.

Others in Consideration:

  • Min Woo Lee +200
  • Taylor Pendrith +2500
  • Stephan Jaeger +2500
  • Maverick McNealy +2800
  • Alex Noren +3000
  • Aaron Rai +3000
  • Keith Mitchell +3000
  • Will Zalatoris +3500
  • Davis Thompson +3500
  • Robert MacIntyre +3500

As you can see, these are not the elite of elite PGA Tour golfers in this event.

Many of the top guys are taking the weekend off, and getting ready for the next major, in mid July.

In the end though, this is a fun field.

Rocket Mortgage Classic Final Betting Pick

Our field bet goes to Cameron Young. We have seen him get hot, and he is due to grab a win.

Detroit is a great start for him. We will take Young at 16/1 odds.

Our second and final bet is a little off the wall here, but will go with Will Zalatoris.

He is listed at 35/1, and our second pick to take down the title.

Those are our picks for the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Enjoy the event, and best of luck with all your PGA Tour betting!

Previous Betting News

The PGA Tour schedule makes its return for the fifth time to Detroit, Michigan, and Detroit Country Club for the Rocket Mortgage Classic. The tournament is the only PGA Tour event to have ever been played within Detroit’s city limits. Tournament play begins on Thursday, June 29th, with 72 holes of individual stroke play.

Tony Finau returns to DCC to defend his title after setting the tournament scoring record last season with a four-day total score of 262 (16-under). The win was Finau’s second consecutive triumph after winning the 3M Open the previous week. Finau lapped the field, beating three players by a comfortable five-shot victory, the largest of his career.

Let’s take a look at the top players for the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic so you can wager against their PGA Tour betting lines.

Strong Cast Teeing it Up

In the past, the Rocket Mortgage Classic hasn’t drawn a strong showing of the top professionals due to its spot on the yearly calendar. With the event a month earlier and leading up to a major, the tournament will have four of the top 20 players in the Official World Golf Rankings in the field.

Headlining that group is Max Homa, who is the only player currently ranked inside the top 10 teeing it up. Other notables include Finau, Justin Thomas, and Collin Morikawa. Thomas and Morikawa are looking for their first victories of the season.

Detroit Country Club

Detroit Country Club has a rich golf history inside the city’s limits since it was established as a six-hole course prior to the start of the 20th century. The layout expanded to 36 holes in the mid-1910s, both courses designed by architect Donald Ross.

The Rocket Mortgage Classic will use a combination of both courses for tournament play, using 17 holes from the North Course and one hole from the South to stretch the yardage to approximately 7,300 yards. Playing as a par-72 on the scorecard, the DCC earns the title of the flattest golf course on the Tour schedule.

Rocket Mortgage Classic Betting Favorites

Finau and Rickie Fowler (+1375) enter the tournament as the pre-event favorites. Finau has already won twice this season, while Fowler is aiming to lock up his first PGA Tour win since 2019.

Morikawa (+1500) and Hideki Matsuyama (+1675) are former major winners also looking to win for the first time this year. Morikawa missed the cut last week at the Travelers Championship but finished T14 the week earlier at the U.S. Open. Matsuyama has made it to the weekend in nine-straight events; his best finish during that run a solo 5th at THE PLAYERS Championship back in March.

Thomas (+1750) and Homa (+1800) round out the betting favorites for this week. Thomas hasn’t had his best stuff this year but found something in his golf game last week in Connecticut for his first T10 finish since March.

Homa, after back-to-back missed cuts at the U.S. Open and Travelers Championship, looks to regain the form that has earned him a pair of victories along with eight top-10 finishes over 18 events played this season.

Previous Betting News

The PGA Tour makes its lone stop in the state of Michigan for the third edition of the Rocket Mortgage Classic at the Detroit Golf Club in Detriot, MI. Last season the tournament was the fourth played after the pause in play due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bryson DeChambeau took home the 2020 title with a three-shot victory over Matthew Wolff. The win was the first of three for DeChambeau (U.S. Open, Arnold Palmer) in under a year.

The tournament winner receives 500 FedEx Cup points and $1.35 million of the $7.5 million purse. Let’s take a closer look at the upcoming 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic event so you can get all set to bet against their Golf odds.

PGA Tour Betting – 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic Preview

Course Overview

There are two courses on the grounds of the Detroit Golf Club, the North and South Courses. Tournament play will take place on the North Course for the duration of the tournament.

The North Course was designed by Donald Ross and plays as a par-72 that stretches 7,370 yards. The course is the flattest on Tour and provides the players with ample opportunities to post a low score, especially on the back nine.

Who’s in the Field?

DeChambeau returns to defend his title along with runner-up Wolff. PGA Championship winner Phil Mickelson is teeing it up for the first time at the Rocket Mortgage, marking his first appearance in Michigan since 2008.

DeChambeau and Jason Kokrak are the only players in the FedEx Cup standings playing this week. Reigning Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama makes his third appearance in the tournament, as well as Jason Day, who showed signs of life last weekend with a T10 at the Travelers.

Top Three Favorites

DeChambeau is the defending champion and a heavy favorite to repeat, according to MyBookie sportsbook. The heavy hitter has made eleven cuts in a row and finished T26 or better in his last three events. DeChambeau is first in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee.

Reed has played on the weekend in five of his last six events, highlighted by a solo 5th at the Memorial at the beginning of June. The 30-year old ranks 9th on Tour in scoring average, and you’ll need to go low to win this one.

Matsuyama comes into the week having cashed in on his last six tournaments. The Masters’ winner finished T23 at the PGA and T26 at the U.S. Open as well.

Top Three Dark Horses

We are riding the hot-hand with Kisner shot a 63 on Sunday to record his best finish (T5) since a solo second at the RSM Classic in November. Kisner ranks 9th in SG: Putting.

Woodland has had an up and down season with 11 cuts made in 19 events. The 2019 U.S. Open winner has looked better as of late with a solo 5th (Wells Fargo) and T14 (Charles Schwab Challenge) in the last two months.

Redman has finishes of T2 (Palmetto Championship) and T9 (AT&T Byron Nelson) in recent weeks to go along with a T21 finish here last season and solo second in the inaugural event in 2019.

Top Three Sleepers

Homa has been hit or miss lately with four missed cuts in six events. Of those two cuts made, he finished T6 in both.

Dahmen is a sneaky pick here after picking up his first PGA Tour victory in March. The 33-year old hasn’t played much this month, finishing T32 at the Memorial in his lone June start.

Lashley picked up his only PGA Tour victory here in 2019, so he knows the course layout. He has a pair of top 5 finishes on his resume this season.

Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler, Hideki Matsuyama, and US Open winner Gary Woodland head to Detroit Golf Club this week for the 2019 Rocket Mortgage Classic. DJ is a major favorite. Who can beat Johnson? Check out the Rocket Mortgage Classic odds and analysis.

2019 Rocket Mortgage Classic Odds to Win

Which golfer among Fowler, Woodland, and Matsuyama can beat Dustin Johnson?

This is the inaugural Rocket Mortgage Classic. That means, no player has a real edge. Beating Dustin Johnson makes sense because even though DJ ranks sixth on the money list, he’s only won a single tournament this year. Not only that, but he finished twentieth at the RBC Canadian Open and thirty-fifth at the U.S. Open.

Rickie Fowler’s form has sort of gone south. He missed the cut at the Charles Schwab Challenge, finished fourteenth at the Memorial Tournament, and finished forty-third at the U.S. Open. Fowler is tough to back in this.

Like Fowler, U.S. Open winner Gary Woodland is tough to back as well. Woodland finished eighth at the PGA Championship, but before winning the U.S. Open, he finished fifty-second at the Memorial Tournament, which means Matsuyama is the player to back to beat DJ.

Hideki Matsuyama has hit the ball well in his last 3 tournaments played. He finished sixteenth at the PGA Championship, sixth at the Memorial Tournament, and twenty-first at the U.S. Open. If he can put together four consistent rounds of golf at under par, that could be all he needs to win on Sunday.

Which +2500 to +3500 golfer can take the 2019 Rocket Mortgage Classic?

Kevin Kisner offers some value at +3500. He brings hot sticks into this tournament. Kisner finished fifteenth at the Travelers Championship in his last tournament played. Although fifteenth doesn’t sound great, it was because Kisner shot 3-of-4 rounds under 70.

That includes shooting a 67 Round 4. If he carries the momentum from the Travelers Championship to the Rocket Mortgage Classic, Kevin Kisner could definitely have a say in the outcome.

Who is the best pick among the +4000 to +5000 choices that can win the tournament?

Like Kisner at +3500, Dufner offers some value at +4500. Although he doesn’t always show up with his best game, Dufner has produced a couple of strong finishes in his 5 tournaments played. He finished fourth at the Wells Fargo Championship in early May. He finished seventh at the Memorial Tournament in early June. If you’re looking for a longshot, Jason Dufner might be the longshot to back.

Is there a golfer at odds higher than +5000 that can win the 2019 Rocket Mortgage Classic?

Rory Sabbatini had a bad U.S. Open when finishing forty-third after shooting a +2 286, but before that he was in decent enough form to challenge for this. He finished twenty-seventh at the Memorial, sixth at the Charles Schwab Challenge, and fifth at the Byron Nelson. Sabbatini offers +5500 odds. He could return to form and be a force over the weekend at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
