Sinner, who won his first career grand slam at the Australian Open in memorable fashion, is the top seed in Rotterdam and the overwhelming favorite to win.

He is the hottest player in the world going back to late last season, when he led Italy to a Davis Cup victory.

He has three wins in his last four matches against Novak Djokovic, who has been practically unbeatable for more than a decade, and show his resiliency by overcoming a 2-0 set deficit in the final of the Australian Open against Daniil Medvedev. Coincidentally, Sinner lost to Medvedev in the final of last year’s ABN AMRO Open.

Sinner is 11-1 in his last 12 ATP matches dating back to the Nitto ATP Finals, during which time he has beaten top-10 opponents like Djokovic, Rune, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Medvedev, and Rublev. He opens the tournament in Rotterdam against Dutch player Botic van de Zandschulp, who will have the backing of the home crowd. They have never played before on the ATP Tour. 

Andrey Rublev +650

Rublev is 8-1 this season with his only loss coming in the quater-finals of the Australian Open against Sinner. Before that, he won the ATP 250 Hong Kong Open, winning four matches against Liam Broady, Arthur Fils, Juncheng Shang, and Emil Ruusuvuori. The 15-time winner on the ATP Tour is ranked No. 5 in the world and appears poised for a breakthrough in 2024.

Rublev begins his tournament against Belgian qualifier Zizou Bergs. As the second seed, he arguably has a more favorable draw to the final than Sinner.

His second round opponent would be either Maxime Cressy or Felix Auger-Aliassime, both of whom are struggling, while he’d likely have to face either de Minaur or Korda in the quarter-finals.

Holger Rune +750

Rune has struggled early in this season, but the third seed is hoping to turn a corner beginning with his first-round match against Roman Safiullin, who he beat just over a month ago in Brisbane. Should he win, he would face the winner of Zhizhen Zhang and Alexander Shevchenko in the second round.

Rune is coming off of a loss to Borna Coric in the semi-final of the Open Sud de France. He retired due to injury and was booed by the French fans. It’ll be interesting to see how he responds this week in the Netherlands.

Played on the indoor hard courts of the Rotterdam Ahoy, the event features a 32-player field and has been part of the tour since 1972. This year’s event has drawn a handful of the top 10 players in the world though Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, and Rafael Nadal are all absent, either through injury or time off.

Stefanos Tsitsipas, ranked No. 3 in the world, is the top seed, followed by No. 5 Andrey Rublev. Felix Auger-Aliassime (7), Holger Rune (9), Hubert Hurkacz (10), and Daniil Medvedev (12) are also in the packed field. The draw has a full 32 players, so unlike last week’s 250 tournaments, there are no first-round byes in Rotterdam. Let’s take a look at some of the ATP odds and ways to approach the ABN Amro Open at MyBookie.

The Favorites

Firstly, Medvedev is seeded sixth, but he is the favorite to win the ABN Amro Open, despite not playing since he lost in the Australian Open last month.

Tsitsipas, who made it to the Australian Open Final before falling to Novak Djokovic, is the second favorite. He also hasn’t played on tour since Melbourne but was in action for Greece at the Davis Cup earlier this month.

Fresh off a win at the Montpellier Open, Jannik Sinner is third in line odds-wise to win the title in Rotterdam.

In addition, the Italian potentially faces Tsitsipas in the second round, with Medvedev in the other half of the bracket. Rune is also in the top half of the bracket and has the fourth-best odds to win this event.

Hurkacz -170

As the fifth seed in Rotterdam, Hubert Hukacz is -170 to win his first-round match against Roberto Bautista Agut at +123.

Hurkacz has never beaten the Spaniard in three tries, but enters this tournament in better form. The No. 10 player in the world didn’t play last week and should be well-rested for this event.

Meanwhile, RBA crashed out of the Montpellier Open in his first match, 6-3, 6-4 last week. He is ranked 24th on the tour and 7-4 this season.

These two have played just one time in the last three years, a 3-set win by RBA, but this time around, Hurkacz flips the script.

Cressy -204

One of the few Americans on tour playing in Europe this month instead of the Dallas to Delray Beach tandem, Paris-born Maxime Cressy reached the finals last week.

Ranked No. 40 in the world, Cressy lost to Sinner in the Montpellier finals 7-6, 6-3 after knocking off Rune in the semis

In Rotterdam, he faces Dutch native Tim Van Rijthoven on home soil for the first round. Cressy should be highly confident against a player he’s never faced, ranked outside the top 100. Cressy is -204 to advance, while Van Rijthoven is +151 and just 2-1 on the season.

Barrere +110

Another player coming off a great tournament in France is Gregoire Barrere. The Frenchman knocked off seeded Alexander Bublik before falling to Rune in the quarterfinals, with both sets going to a tiebreak. Barrere had to qualify for this event, and he is a first-round underdog at +110, with David Goffin at -135.

In conclusion, Goffin has struggled so far this season at 3-4 on Tour, and he lost a crucial match to South Korea’s Soonwoo Kwon.

Goffin missed the Australian Open with an illness and hasn’t seen as much top-flight competition this season as Barrere. That combination leaves the Belgian ripe for an upset against a younger player he hasn’t faced in four years.

Joining the trio are Hubert Hurkacz (no.11), Denis Shapovalov (no.12), Cameron Norrie (no.13), Aslan Karatsev (no.15), and Nikoloz Basilashvili (no.21).

Andrey Rublev enters the 2022 ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament as the reigning champion, having won the tournament in 2021, with a 7-6, 6-4 against Márton Fucsovics, who will be competing at the event, looking to improve upon his showing last year.

Players To Watch Out For

Stefanos Tsitsipas

Stefanos Tsitsipas is priced as the main favorite to win the 2022 ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament, at odds close to +300 on most sports betting sites.

That makes sense since he is the top-rated player of the event, and the tournament hasn’t exactly seen many upset winners – not a single one since Martin Klizan’s triumph in 2016.

Tsitsipas is fresh off a solid start to the season, having made semis in the 2022 Australian Open, where he lost against Daniil Medvedev (1-3) but has done well enough to defeat Sinner (3-0), Fritz (3-2), Paire (3-1), Baez (3-1), and Ymer (3-0).

In other words, while Tsitsipas has shown enough for us to believe he has a realistic chance to win in the Netherlands, his short odds make him a far less appealing pick.  

Andrey Rublev

Priced as the second-favorite to win his second ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament title, Rublev should arguably be priced much closer to Tsitsipas. That is even though the Greek shone in Australia and has already won seven titles at lower-level events such as this one.

But it’s worth noting that four of those seven titles have come indoors, granted on much faster courses – two in Marseille. The Rotterdam course, on the other side, is very slow and was a hot topic of discussion among the players, so it’s fair to say that it won’t suit Tsitsipas.

However, that just might help Rublev, who has a very solid record on indoor hard courts – four of his career eight titles have come in these conditions.

What’s more, he is the reigning champion, so it’s fair to say that the slow courts don’t bother him, and he seemed to do fine in Moscow, St Petersburg, and Vienna as well.

Admittedly, Rublev underperformed in Australia, where he crashed out of R3. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that he should do more than fine in the Netherlands.

Alexander Bublik 

In conclusion, Alexander Bublik is a solid longshot pick at odds as high as +3300. He has an exceptional serve which should cut through the suboptimal conditions.

Most notably, he served 69 aces when he rediscovered his form in Montpellier, where he won his maiden title.

Obviously, there are better players in the field than Bublik, but he’s a bit overpriced at the offered ATP betting odds. One thing that could concern you is fatigue and whether it will play a part this week, but Bublik has looked much better of late, and if his performance in France is any indication, he should do more than fine in Rotterdam as well.

Rublev is the bigger, younger, stronger and far more complete player in this matchup.

No. 8 Stan Wawrinka (-108) Vs Karen Kachanov (-121)

When: Tuesday, March 2 at 8:30 AM

35-year-old Swiss star Stan Wawrinka is ranked 20th in the ATP World Tour rankings.

The three-time slam winner is 3- on the year and reached the second round in Australian before bowing out in a five-set thriller against Marton Fucsovics. 24-year-old Russian Karen Kachanov is ranked 21st in the rankings and is 5-2 on the year. The 6-6 star reached the third round in Australia before being dispatched by world No. 10 Matteo Berrettini in straight sets.

Prediction: In conclusion, Wawrinka owns a 2-1 edge against Kachanov in three career meetings, but the Russian won their last meetings 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-2 at the Canada Masters in 2019.

Still, I’m going with the ‘Stanimal’ to get the ‘upset’ here in a three-set thriller.

Wawrinka is fully healthy for the first time in a couple of years and has looked quite hungry this year, even if he is aging. Wawrinka is the far more experienced player in this matchup and I believe he’ll get the three-set win because of that edge.

Monfils heads to Dubai on fire. He dominated Stanislas Wawrinka 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 to win the ABN Amro World Tennis Tournament in his last. Monfils is 9-2 in singles matches this season. He has a recency edge, but Cilic should be well-rested. He’s the play at the slightly lower odds.

Often, it’s hard to take such short odds, but in this case it’s warranted. Benoit’s a tough tennis player. He’s not on Nishikori’s level, though. The #6 player in the world should dominate Benoit Paire from the first set. Kei easily wins on Tuesday.

But, Denis Kudla didn’t make it out of the first round at the Open 13 Provence. He lost to Mikhail Kukushkin 3-6, 3-6. Although it’s tempting to back Kudla because Berrettini’s not really playing much better than he is, Matteo’s got more upside in Dubai. He’s the play.

Stefanos Tsitsipas won the Open 13 Provence on Sunday. Tsitsipas ended Hurkacz’s run at the Open 13 Provence with a 6-4, 6-2 win in Round 2. Hurkacz played well in the loss.

In conclusion, 19-year-old Corentin Moutet has yet to play this season. He made a decent $318,726 in 2018 when winning 3-of-14 singles matches. If he’s improved at all from last season to this season, he could start his 2019 off great by beating Hurkacz. He’s worth a look at the decent +120 odds.
