The third ATP Cup is set to take place in Sidney, Australia on Jan. 1 through Jan. 9. Top-seed Serbia got some bad news on Dec. 29 when their best player, Novak Djokovic, pulled out of the Cup. Djokovic may not play in the Aussie Open, either. Rafael Nadal is also likely to skip the ATP Cup, dinging Spain’s chances. Does that mean defending champion Russia is the team to beat? Check out more information on the ATP Cup along with an ATP Odds prediction as well as which underdog is likely to take the top prize.

Once MyBookie sets odds, which teams will be the favorites to win the tournament?
It’s impossible to make Serbia the chalk since Novak Djokovic won’t play. With Djokovic stepping onto the court, the Serbians were the team to beat. That’s how dominant Novak is at the Australian Open.
Even without Djokovic, though, the Serbs will have a solid squad. This is especially true because the chances of Rafael Nadal playing are almost zero.
Nadal tested positive for Covid last week. The Spanish superstar is often careful as it is. Don’t expect Rafa to rush to Australia just so he can play in the Australian Open. If Rafael doesn’t play in the singles event, why would he want to play in the team tournament?
Germany is in good hands with Alexander Zverev. But after Alexander, the team will struggle to find a player capable of beating the Serbians or Spanish. So we’re left with the Russians. The world’s number 2, Daniil Medvedev, plays for Russia. That alone makes Russia a big favorite.
What underdog teams should tennis handicappers consider backing to win the ATP Cup?
If a couple of Germans can step up and help Zverev, Deutschland is the obvious upset candidate. Zverev requires help, though. So don’t dump on Germany before doing your homework.
Diego Schwartzmann leads a decent Argentina contingent. Also, the Argentinians should offer massive odds.
The final dog to consider are the Norwegians. 23-year-old Casper Ruud should become a top ten player soon. He’s very talented.
21-year-old Andreja Petrovic has a ton of talent. Give the Norwegians an outside shot if you don’t love the Germans, or Argentinians, and don’t want to back a favorite.
