The ATP 250 Open Parc Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes Lyon, also known as the Lyon Open, has been played every year in the French town since 2017. It’s one of five ATP Tour events in France and is typically played the week before the French Open, although it didn’t take place from 2010-2016. It was an indoor hard court event from 1987 to 2009.
Frenchmen Benoit Paire (2019) and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (2017) have won two of the five tournaments since it was a clay court event. Cameron Norrie, last year’s winner, returns to defend his title but isn’t the No. 1 seed. That distinction belongs to Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Let’s take a look at the updated ATP betting lines for the 2023 Lyon Open and some of the first-round odds at MyBookie.

Where: Vélodrome Georges Préveral, Parc de la Tête d’or | Lyon, France
Surface: Clay / outdoor
Defending Champion Cameron Norrie
Norrie, the No. 1 seed last year, scraped and clawed to win the tournament. After a straight-set victory over Francisco Cerundolo in the Round of 16, he needed three sets to win each of his next three matches en route to the title. He beat Alex Molcan 6-3, 6-7 (3), 6-1 in the final.
Norrie is 23-8 this season and currently ranked No. 13 in the world. He lost in the Round of 32 in Madrid two weeks ago and is just 3-6 in his last nine matches dating back to a loss to Frances Tiafoe in the quarter-finals at Indian Wells. Norrie is 73-41 in his career on clay. He’s a better hard-court player with a career-winning percentage of 69.21.
Other Challengers
Auger-Aliassime is the obvious pick to challenge Norrie this week. The Canadian is a four-time winner on the ATP Tour and is 12-8 this season, although has also struggled as of late. Going back to Indian Wells, Auger-Aliassime is 1-4.
However, clay has historically been the Canadian’s best surface. He has a 65.12 winning percentage on clay and is looking to gain momentum ahead of the French Open next week. Although he lost to Rafael Nadal last year, he was only the second player ever to take him to five sets at Roland Garros. He was a finalist in Lyon in 2019.
Tommy Paul and Francisco Cerundolo are the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds, respectively. Paul has a more favorable draw but will have to play a home crowd favorite (either Gregorie Barrere or Corentin Moutet) in the Round of 16. Cerundolo will play Juan Pablo Varillas, who upset Albert Ramos Viñolas in the first round on Sunday.
Longshot Picks
Gaël Monfils is a strong longshot pick to win this week. He doesn’t really have a preferred surface and seems to always make it tough on his opponents, whether he’s playing on clay, hard court, or grass. He’ll also have the support of the French crowd and has a decent draw, although he’ll have to get by Norrie in the quarter-finals.
Márton Fucsovics is another decent longshot pick. Like Monfils, he plays about the same regardless of which surface on which he’s playing. He’s 17-10 this season, while his first-round opponent, Sebastian Baez, is just 15-14.
