A Breakdown of the Draw | 2024 Barcelona Open

With the 48-player format, the top 16 seeds earn automatic entries into the second round. That means all of the players above, along with others like Lorenzo Musetti, Borna Coric, Arthur Fils, and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina are in the second round awaiting their opponents. Tsitsipas and de Minaur are the top seeds in the top half of the draw, but will both be tested after playing well into the week at the Monte-Carlo Masters last week. Tsitsipas won the tournament and has a quick turnaround. He’ll play the winner of Sebastian Ofner and Pavel Kotov.

In the bottom half of the draw, second seed Andrey Rublev takes on Brandon Nakashima in the second round after the American beat Dan Evans early Monday morning in first-round action. Casper Ruud, who is coming off his third finals loss this season in Monaco, takes on the winner of Albert Ramos Vinolas and Alexandre Muller in the second round. Other noteworthy players in the bottom half of the draw include Karen Khachanov, Cameron Norrie, and Rafael Nadal, who is playing for the first time since the Brisbane International in January.

Barcelona Open First-Round Betting Previews

Daniel Altmaier (+135) vs. Alexei Popyrin (-190)
Alexei Popyrin is having a breakthrough year in 2024. The 24-year-old Aussie is 9-5 this season, including 2-1 on clay. He’s also 1-0 against Altmaier, beating him in three sets in the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati in 2023. Popyrin should advance to the second round with another win over Altmaier, who is an uninspiring 6-11 this season.

Rafael Nadal (-475) vs. Flavio Cobolli (+300)
Nadal is undeniably one of the greatest players of all-time, but there’s massive upset potential here as he hasn’t played in more than three months and has been plagued by injuries during the last few years. He has yet to play against Cobolli, a 21-year-old Italian with a 17-10 record this season, and could be in for a surprise. Nadal has played just seven matches since the start of 2023 and has a 3-4 record in those matches. He also hasn’t played on clay since 2022.

Top 8 Seeds

1. Alexander Zverev (World No. 5)
2. Holger Rune (World No. 7)
3. Taylor Fritz (World No. 13)
4. Jan-Lennard Struff (World No. 25)
5. Felix Auger-Aliassime (World No. 35)
6. Jack Draper (World No. 39)
7. Dominik Koepfer (World No. 54)
8. Alexander Shevchenko (World No. 55)

Barcelona Open Finals Prediction

With so many quality players, this is a tough tournament to predict. However, there’s a lot to like about Ugo Humbert in the top half of the bracket and Ruud in the bottom half. Humbert is having a resurgent season this year, winning the Dubai Tennis Championship and reaching the quarter-finals at the Monte-Carlo Masters last week, while Ruud has reached three finals without a win. He’s also one of the best clay court players in the world.

Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell Odds, Picks, and Tennis Betting Analysis

Previous Betting News

With the ATP 1000 Monte Carlo Masters in the rearview mirror, the men’s tour splits into three clay tournaments this week, and the top players are all headed in different directions. The biggest of those tournaments is the ATP 500 Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, which takes place at the oldest tennis courts in Spain. The event will be held at the Real Club de Barcelona and is the final tune-up before the ATP 1000 Madrid Masters.

Let’s take a look at the ATP odds for the 2023 Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell and some of the tournament odds at MyBookie.

2023 ATP Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell Odds, Picks, and Tennis Betting Analysis

When: April 15-23
Where: Barcelona
TV / Streaming: Tennis Channel

Rafael Nadal, a 12-time champion in Barcelona, will not play this week because of injury. Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz is back as the top seed after missing Monte Carlo, and he is the favorite to win the clay-court tournament. Stefanos Tsitsipas is the No. 2 seed, followed by Casper Ruud, Janik Sinner, Frances Tiafoe, and Karen Khachanov.

Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, and Monte Carlo finalists Andrey Rublev and Holger Rune are playing elsewhere this week.

Alcaraz the Favorite

Despite not playing since losing to Sinner in the finals of the Miami Open on March 20, Alcaraz is the favorite at -108. Alcaraz has a title on clay this year from Buenos Aires, and he lost a final on clay in Rio de Janeiro. The young Spaniard won at Indian Wells before losing in the finals of the Miami Open, and he withdrew from Monte Carlo with an injury.

The top speed could face Roberto Bautista Agut, a clay-court specialist, in the round of 16. A match against Tiafoe, who beat Alcaraz in the 2021 Barcelona Open, looms in the quarters. If healthy and ready to go, Alcaraz is a big favorite and likely to at least reach the finals, with Tsitsipas and Sinner in the bottom half of the draw.

Sinner Continues to Surge

Sinner, a 21-year-old Italian, is having a fantastic 2023 season. He reached another semifinal last week at Monte Carlo before falling in three sets to Rune. With a 21-5 record on the season, Sinner has shown he can win on a variety of surfaces and won’t back down from other top-10 opposition.

Sinner is +404 to win in Barcelona, the second favorite behind Alcaraz. He’s in the bottom of the draw and should easily navigate the first two matches. If the seeded players stay alive, he would face either Cam Norrie or Lorezno Musetti in the quarters, and he just knocked off Musetti in Monte Carlo.

Longer Shots to Bet

After Alcaraz and Sinner, the odds drop considerably. Tsitsipas is +800, Ruud is +1000, Khachanov is +2500, and Tiafoe is +4000 to win the event. Of those, Ruud and Tiafoe are bets to keep an eye on, especially if Alcaraz isn’t 100 percent healthy in the top half of the draw.

Ruud is in the top half but wouldn’t face Alcaraz or Tiafoe until the semifinals. He has won nine career ATP tournaments on clay, but he was upset in straight sets in the third round in Monte Carlo by unseeded Jan-Lennard Struff. Ruud reached the quarterfinals in Barcelona last year before losing to Pablo Carreno Busta.

Tiafoe withdrew from last week’s Monte Carlo Masters and is seeded fifth this week. He won the U.S. Clay Court Championships in Houston in his last event and does have a big Barcelona win, beating Alcaraz in the 2021 first round. A long shot at +4000, Tiafoe likely has to beat either Alcaraz or Ruud, maybe both, to reach the final.

ATP 2021 Barcelona Open Round of 32 Expert Analysis

Previous Betting News

Can anyone stop red-hot Stefanos Tsitsipas? Is blossoming Russian Andrey Rublev a future slam winner in the making? Can Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime get back in the mix as one of the top young stars in the game today? With the 2021 Barcelona Open steamrolling into the Round of 32, it’s time to find out which ATP stars are in action on Wednesday and which ones are offering the best Tennis betting value in their respective matches.

Tennis Betting Preview for the ATP Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell

Federico Gaio Vs No. 3 Andrey Rublev

ATP Odds: Federico Gaio +960 / Andrey Rublev -4999

World No. 138 Federico Gaio got past veteran Benoit Paire 7-5, 6-3 as a ‘lucky loser’ on Monday after losing his qualifying round match against Ilya Ivashka on Sunday. The 29-year-old Italian is just 2-12 in his career at the ATP Tour level.  World No. 7 Andrey Rublev came into this event with a stellar 24-5 mark on the year with one title. The blossoming 23-year-old Russian beat the incomparable Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals of Monte Carlo Masters just over a week ago before falling to Stefanos Tsitsipas 3-6, 3-6 in the finals.

While these two players have never met, there’s a reason why Rublev is the huge favorite here. Rublev is the bigger, stronger, faster and more consistent of the two players with far bigger and more dangerous weapons off of both wings. If this match doesn’t end in an easy straight sets victory for the blossoming Rublev, I’ll be completely shocked.

Pick: Andrey Rublev in Straight Sets

Felix Auger-Aliassime Vs Lorenzo Musetti

ATP Odds: Felix Auger-Aliassime -120 / Lorenzo Musetti -109

World No. 20 Felix Auger-Aliassime was 10-6 on the year coming into this event while world No. 87 Lorenzo Musetti was 7-4 coming into this tournament. The young Italian got past veteran Feliciano Lopez 6-4, 6-3 in his opener on Tuesday.

“Me and my coach are really proud of what I did, translating practice to the tournament. That’s what we are working for and I am really enjoying it and I’m really happy with this win,” the 19-year-old Musetti said. “Looking forward to playing Felix.”

While these two players have never met before, I’m going with the aptly-named FA2 to get the win as he builds on his newly former relationship with coach Toni Nadal. Auger-Aliassime is the bigger player with more versatility and experience in his career. Musetti is talented, no doubt, but Felix Auger-Aliassime is looking to take his game to the next level after getting surpassed the last couple of years b the likes of other young starts like Jannik Sinner and Andrey Rublev just to name two. FA 2 gets in done in a three-set thriller.

Pick: Felix Auger-Aliassime in 3 Sets

Jaume Munar Vs No. 2 Stefanos Tsitsipas

ATP Odds: Jaume Munar +319 / Stefanos Tsitsipas -500

23-year-old Jaume Munar is ranked 86th in the world while 22-year-old Stefanos Tsitsipas in ranked a stellar fifth in the ATP Tour world rankings. This meeting will be the third career head-to-head pairing between these two. Tsitsipas currently leads the head-to-head 2-0 over Jaume Munar and the Greek star is fresh off his first Masters 1000 title in Monte Carlo last week.

Tsitsipas has reached the semifinals at the Australian Open, the semis in Rotterdam, the final in Acapulco, and the quarters in Miami.  The 6’4″ star has beaten household name stars, Rafael Nadal, Andrey Rublev, Roberto Bautista Agut and Kei Nishikori this year. Tsitsipas came from two sets down to beat Munar in the first round at Roland Garros last year, winning the match 4-6, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 on his way to the semifinals. Tsitsipas also defeated the Spaniard in four sets at the 2018 Next Gen ATP Finals. Tsitsipas is riding high right now and won’t be stopped in this affair, although I’m expecting this one to go three sets.

Pick: Stefanos Tsitsipas in 3 Sets
