Betting 2024 Shanghai Masters

The 2024 ATP Rolex Shanghai Masters is set to begin on Wednesday, October 2nd, and this is always an important tournament.

Even though this is not one of the grand slam events, it will give that same feel based on the players in the field.

It’s very rare that all the best players in the world agree to compete in the same event, but that’s exactly what is happening this weekend.

Now is the perfect time to put together some picks or predictions for the action, and there are some players that stand out.

Here is a look at the top three contenders for the ATP Rolex Shanghai Masters, and a pick of the player that will get it done.

Writer’s Top 3 Picks to Win the Next Shanghai Masters

Jannik Sinner

Jannik Sinner continues to be the top ranked player in the world, and he has also earned the top seed in this event.

That should give Sinner an easier path to at least get to the finals, but there will be some big challenges along the way.

Sinner continues to be a player that can win any tournament that he enters, but only if he is playing at his best.

It has been a challenge to consistently find that level, and that’s what gives other players some hope.

Carlos Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz just can’t seem to get to the number one ranking, and he is actually the number three seed in this event.

Alcaraz has continued to perform well in each tournament, but there always seems to be a time when things fall apart.

There is a good chance that Alcaraz will end up matching up against Alexander Zverev at some point in this event, and that is a matchup that fans would love to see.

If Alcaraz was able to come up with a win over Zverev then you would see his odds improve in a big way.

Novak Djokovic

The legend, Novak Djokovic, will be looking to score a massive win in Shanghai as he tries to get more wins to end his career.

Djokovic is no longer playing at his elite level, but he is still good enough to win some tennis tournaments.

There have been some early exits for Djokovic in recent tournaments, but he should be focused and ready to go in this one.

Since his odds are not as favorable as what you normally see, now might be the perfect time to react.

Picking a Rolex Shanghai Masters Winner

There will be some thrilling action on the court throughout this tournament, and you should expect most of the top seeds to stay in contention.

Not only is that going to lead to some good betting options, but it will also create some great drama on the court.

The odds suggest that Sinner and Alcaraz are going to be battling it out for the top spot, but you can’t forget about the legend this weekend.

Novak Djokovic has still been winning some big tournaments, and he will come away with another win in Shanghai.

ATP Pick: Novak Djokovic

ATP Betting Preview for the 2023 Rolex Shanghai Masters

Previous Betting News

For the first time in four years, before the COVID-19 pandemic, the ATP Tour is back in Asia, making the return of big tournaments like the China Open and ATP 1000 Rolex Shanghai Masters.

The China Open is into the semifinals, with Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, and Carlos Alcaraz earning three of the four spots and Grigor Dimitrov and Jannik Sinner battling for the other. The tournament concludes on October 4, following which begins the Rolex Shanghai Masters.

There’s $8.8 million in prize money and 1,000 in rankings points for the winner up for grabs in the 1000 level tournament, which takes place on outdoor hard courts at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena. The singles draw features a whopping 96 players, with the top 32 seeds earning byes into the second round.

Let’s take a closer look at the upcoming Rolex Shanghai Masters tournament so you can bet against the ATP betting lines.

ATP Shanghai History

This year’s tournament marks the 12th edition of the Rolex Shanghai Masters. Nikolay Davydenko defeated Rafael Nadal in the finals of the inaugural event, and the tournament has since been dominated by Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Andy Murray, who combined to win all nine tournaments from 2010 to 2018. Medvedev beat Zverev in the final in 2019.

Novak Djokovic’s Absence

Almost all of the top players in the world will be in Shanghai for the tournament, with the exception of one player: Djokovic.

The world No. 1 has played sparingly this year, limiting himself to Grand Slams (he has won three) and select 500 and 1000 level events, but chose to forego competing in Asia as he prepares for the ATP Finals – he’s all but guaranteed to hold the top seed until then.

"Over the years, some of the best support I receive anywhere in the world is in China," Djokovic posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. "Shanghai has always been one of my favourite tournaments in the season. I will be missing my #NoleFam in China. I hope that I can come back to China in the future and play in front of all of you again."

Djokovic has a 34-5 record at the Shanghai Masters and is a four-time winner. He also won the Nitto ATP Finals in Shanghai in 2008. His absence should leave the door open for Medvedev to repeat or for a new champion to be crowned.

The Top 8 Seeds | Rolex Shanghai Masters

1. Carlos Alcaraz

2. Daniil Medvedev

3. Holger Rune

4. Stefanos Tsitsipas

5. Andrey Rublev

6. Jannik Sinner

7. Taylor Fritz

8. Casper Ruud

ATP Finals Considerations

Djokovic, Alcaraz, and Medvedev hold the top three spots in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings and are guaranteed to play in the ATP Finals in Mexico next month.

However, the last five spots are up for grabs. As it stands now, Rune (4,710), Tsitsipas (4,615), Rublev (4,515), Sinner (4,465), and Taylor Fritz (3,955) occupy those spots, but Ruud (3,560), Zverev (3,280), Frances Tiafoe (2,690), and Alex de Minaur (2,685) are all in contention.

With 1,000 ranking points available for the winner, someone like Zverev could break into the top eight, supplanting Fritz, if he were to win the event. Tiafoe and de Minaur could also make things interesting with a victory.

2023 Rolex Shanghai Masters Updates: Betting Prediction for the Quarterfinals

Previous Betting News

The ATP Tour is back in Shanghai for the first time since 2019 with the 1000-level Shanghai Masters. The two-week tournament, which succeeded the China Open, featured a massive 96-player draw, with the top 32 seeds receiving a bye into the second round.

Surprisingly, just one of the top 10 seeds and only four of the top 20 seeds were still in contention as of Thursday’s quarterfinals.

Let’s take a closer look at the ATP betting lines for the Rolex Shanghai Masters Quarterfinals plus MyBookie’s Pick for the Final.

Upset Central in Shanghai

Almost all of the world’s top players arrived in Shanghai, but many were out within the first three rounds, as there had been plenty of upsets through the first week of action.

Daniil Medvedev, the 2019 champion, lost his third-round match in straight sets against American Sebastian Korda. The top seed, Carlos Alcaraz, cruised through his first two opponents before losing in three sets to Grigor Dimitrov in the fourth round.

Holger Rune, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Jannik Sinner, Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud, Alexander Zverev, and Frances Tiafoe are the other top 10 seeds eliminated from contention. Rune, Zverev, and Tiafoe lost their first match.

Sinner lost in the fourth round to upstart American Ben Shelton, who was playing Korda in one of the two quarterfinals on Thursday night in Shanghai. The winner will advance to play Hubert Hurkacz, who beat Fabian Marozsan in the other quarterfinal on Thursday.

Friday’s Quarterfinal Rolex Shanghai Masters Matches

Ugo Humbert vs. Andrey Rublev

ATP Odds: Ugo Humbert +163; Andrey Rublev -232

Andrey Rublev, the sixth seed, is the highest-ranked player still in contention at the Shanghai Masters.

He defeated Quentin Halys, Adrian Mannarino, and Tommy Paul in straight sets and looks poised to advance to the semifinal. His opponent, Ugo Humbert, needed three sets to beat Botic van de Zandschulp and Tsitsipas. He beat J.J. Wolf in straight sets in the fourth round.

Rublev and Humbert have split their four career meetings. Humbert beat Rublev in three sets in the Round of 16 at the China Open less than two weeks ago.

Grigor Dimitrov vs. Nicolas Jarry

ATP Odds: Grigor Dimitrov -243; Nicolas Jarry +170

Dimitrov, the 18th seed, is riding high after upsetting Alcaraz in the fourth round. He also has victories over Karen Khachanov and Aleksandar Vukic. Jarry has had a slightly easier path to the quarters, beating qualifier Terence Atmane, wildcard Diego Schwartzman, and Lorenzo Sonego.

Surprisingly, Jarry is 2-0 against Dimitrov, although both of those wins have come on clay. Dimitrov is the better hard-court player.

2023 Rolex Shanghai Masters Predicting the Final

After beating Alcaraz, it’s easy to see Dimitrov continuing his impressive run to the final and winning the Shanghai Masters. However, this tournament has been anything but predictable.

There are also plenty of worthy contenders left, especially Rublev and Hurkacz, who have both won ATP Masters 1000 events. Either Shelton or Korda could also challenge for the title – Shelton was a semifinalist at the US Open last month.

Given the way the tournament has played out thus far, it also wouldn’t be surprising to see Humbert, the 32nd seed, in the final. However, we’ll go with Hukacz vs. Rublev in the final, with Rublev winning his third title of the season and securing his spot in the Nitto ATP Finals next month in Mexico.

Previous Betting News

The ATP 1000 Rolex Shanghai Masters returns this week for the first time since 2019 and features a unique twist. The field for this year’s tournament has been expanded to 96 players, meaning the top 32 seeds receive a bye into the second round.

Qualifying began over the weekend, and first-round action begins on October 4 at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena.

While world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, a four-time champion in Shanghai, isn’t present, the tournament has attracted most of the top players in the world. That’s because there’s nearly $9 million in prize money on the line as well as 1,000 ranking points for the winner, which could help someone outside of the top eight secure a spot in next month’s ATP Finals in Mexico.

Let’s take a closer look at the top three seeds for this upcoming Rolex Shanghai Masters tournament so you can get a better idea when looking at the MyBookie’s ATP betting lines.

Carlos Alcaraz

Although he only won one Grand Slam this year (Wimbledon), it has been a great year for world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz. He was a semi-finalist at the US Open and French Open and missed the Australian Open due to injury. He’s currently in the semifinals of the China Open against Italian Jannik Sinner.

Alcaraz has made it to at least the quarter-final in every tournament since the Italian Open in May. He’s 61-7 overall this season with six titles and could add a seventh in Beijing.

The 20-year-old Spaniard has already won two ATP Masters 1000 events this season (Madrid and Indian Wells) and is the clear favorite to win in Shanghai, especially considering he hasn’t dropped a set yet in Beijing.

Daniil Medvedev

Daniil Medvedev, the 2023 US Open runner-up, is also still competing in Beijing. The 27-year-old Russian is into the semifinals against Alexander Zverev, who is desperately trying to compile points to move into the top eight in the Pepperstone ATP rankings. Medvedev, the world No. 3, beat Ugo Humbert, Alex de Minaur, and Tommy Paul en route to the semifinals in Beijing.

His play has been up and down this season before the US Open, at least based on his expectations. He’s 58-12 this season with five titles, including two ATP Masters 1000 titles (Rome and Miami). Medvedev will begin his tournament Friday against the winner of a qualifier and Cristian Garin.

Holger Rune

Holger Rune begins the tournament as the third seed despite his struggles over the course of the last month. Many expected the 20-year-old Dane to make a major breakthrough this season, and while he has been solid, he hasn’t quite met expectations. He lost to Grigor Dimitrov in the Round of 16 at the China Open and was out in the first round of the US Open.

Overall, Rune is 37-16 this season but has just one title, winning in Munich. He doesn’t necessarily have an easy second-round match either, as he will face the winner of Brandon Nakashima and Bernabe Zapata Miralles.

The ATP 1000 Rolex Shanghai Masters is into the second week, with many of the top seeds already eliminated from the loaded 96-player tournament.

This is the first year in which this tournament has been contested since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and it’s one of the last tournaments before the Nitto ATP Finals in Mexico in November.

Five of the top 10 seeds, including Daniil Medvedev and Holger Rune, were out before the third round.

Let’s take a closer look at the Top 3 plus upcoming Rolex Shanghai Masters tournament so you can bet against the ATP betting lines.

Top 3 Seeds Still in Contention

World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz is the top seed in Shanghai and was playing in the third round against Dan Evans on Monday morning. Alcaraz was down a break early in the first set but is obviously still a strong contender to win the match – and the tournament – considering his dominance this season. The 20-year-old Spaniard is 61-8 this season with six titles.

Stefanos Tsitsipas, the fourth seed, is the second-highest seed left in the tournament, with Medvedev and Rune eliminated. He beat qualifier Rinky Hijikata 6-4, 6-2 in the second round and is facing Ugo Humbert in the third round Monday morning.

The 25-year-old Greek player has struggled as of late, losing in the second round of the US Open and first round of the China Open in Beijing last week.

Fifth seed Andrey Rublev is still going strong into the fourth round, where he will face American Tommy Paul. He previously beat French players Quentin Halys and Adrian Mannarino.

Upcoming Matches to Bet On

Casper Ruud vs. Fabian Marozsan

ATP Odds: Casper Ruud -370; Fabian Marozsan +240

Casper Ruud, the world No. 9, could earn a top-eight position with a victory in Shanghai. He’s through to the fourth round after beating Yoshihito Nishioka and Christopher Eubanks without dropping a set. Fabian Marozsan, meanwhile, defeated Arthur Rinderknech, Alex de Minaur, and Dusan Lajovic.

Ruud and Marozsan have never played each other, despite both being on the ATP Tour since 2017. Ruud is 11-10 on hard courts this year, and Marozsan is 6-4. As much as Ruud has to play for, there’s strong upset potential here for Maorzsan.

2023 Rolex Shanghai Masters | Bet Casper Ruud vs. Fabian Marozsan
MyBookie Betting Lines for the Tournament

Hubert Hurkacz vs. Zhizhen Zhang

ATP Odds: Hubert Hurkacz -274; Zhizhen Zhang +189

If there’s another match with upset potential, it’s Hubert Hurkacz versus the home crowd favorite Zhizhen Zhang.

The lone Chinese player to advance past the second round, Zhang scored victories over Richard Gasquet, Tomas Etcheverry, and Brandon Nakashima. Hurkacz has played well but has had an easier path to the fourth round, beating Thanasi Kokkinakis and qualifier Hsu Yu-hsiou.

Hurkacz defeated Zhang in the Round of 64 at the Shanghai Masters in 2019, the last time the tournament was held. Zhang is a much more accomplished player since then, however. He’s coming off of a US Open in which he scored five-set victories over Ruud and J.J. Wolf.

2023 Rolex Shanghai Masters | Bet Hubert Hurkacz vs. Zhizhen Zhang
MyBookie Betting Lines for the Tournament

Jannik Sinner vs. Ben Shelton

ATP Odds: Jannik Sinner -409; Ben Shelton +265

The upset potential isn’t as strong here, but Ben Shelton certainly has a chance to beat Jannik Sinner, who is coming off of a tournament victory at the China Open and is more likely to be dealing with fatigue ahead of Tuesday’s fourth-round match. Sinner has also never played Shelton, a 2023 US Open semifinalist.
