The 2024 Tiriac Open, the 25th edition of the tournament, takes place from April 15-21 at the Năstase & Marica Sports Club in Bucharest, Romania. Also known as the Romanian Open, the outdoor clay court tournament is one of the events on the ATP Tour this week along with the BMW Open in Germany and the Barcelona Open.
This year marks the first edition of the Romanian Open since 2016 as it was replaced in past years by tournaments in Bosnia, Serbia, and Hungary. Fernando Verdasco is the last player to win the tournament, while other past champions include Grigor Dimitrov (2014) and Gilles Simon (2012, 2008, and 2007).

A Breakdown of the Draw | 2024 Tiriac Open
While the draw in Romania is hardly as impressive as those in Munich or Barcelona, there’s still four of the top-50 players in the field. The top-four seeds receive byes into the second round of the 28-player ATP 250 event. Cerundolo, as the top seed, awaits the winner of wildcard entry Richard Gasquet and Federico Coria in the second round. Third seed Sebastian Korda has the other bye in the top half of the bracket.
In the bottom half of the bracket, Tallon Griekspoor and Alejandro Tabilo receive byes into the second round, but neither player is really that much better than some of the other outright winner options in the bottom half of the bracket, including Nuno Borges, Stan Wawrinka, Denis Shapovalov, and Marton Fucsovics.
Tiriac Open First-Round Betting Previews
Corentin Moutet (-125) vs. Denis Shapovalov (-110)
This should be one of the most compelling matches of the first round as both players have been excellent in the past and are still young enough to return to form and break through on the ATP Tour. Moutet, a former world No. 51, is 12-8 this season and 1-0 in his career against Shapovalov, a 25-year-old Canadian who was once ranked as high as No. 10 in the world. Shapovalov is 6-9 this season, but has shown signs of returning to form and should beat Moutet in a close, three-set match.
Nuno Borges (-145) vs. Stan Wawrinka (+105)
There’s good upset potential here as Borges, who has been having a decent season, has the unfortunate matchup as the seventh seed in taking on Stan Wawrinka, a grand slam winner who was once ranked No. 3 in the world. Despite being 39 years old, Wawrinka has shown he can still compete at a decent level. He was 29-24 last season, including 11-8 on clay. He’s 2-4 on clay this season and should, at the very least, take this match to three sets.
Top 8 Seeds
1. Francisco Cerundolo (World No. 22)
2. Tallon Griekspoor (World No. 26)
3. Sebastian Korda (World No. 27)
4. Alejandro Tabilo (World No. 45)
5. Mariano Navone (World No. 51)
6. Lorenzo Sonego (World No. 57)
7. Nuno Borges (World No. 58)
8. Pedro Martinez (World No. 60)
Tiriac Open Finals Prediction
It’s tough to predict a tournament with no real clear favorites, but Cerundolo has a favorable path to the final in the top half of the bracket as the top seed in the tournament. The botton half of the draw is even more wide open, but one player to keep an eye on is Lorenzo Sonego, who had a decent showing at the Monte-Carlo Masters last week, reaching the Round of 16 after going through qualification. He was also a quarter-finalist at the Grand Prix Hassan II the week prior.
