The Washington Wizards will be without their best player Tuesday night in All-Star guard Bradley Beal as the Wizards visit the Milwaukee Bucks in a potential Eastern Conference playoff preview shown on national TV. The Bucks will be heavy favorites on the NBA odds.

Season Series
The teams have played once this season, a Washington 101-94 home win on Nov. 7. Bradley Beal led the Wizards with 30 points. Kyle Kuzma added 15 points and 10 rebounds to help Washington snap an eight-game losing streak in the series with the Bucks. Montrezl Harrell also had 15 points, and Daniel Gafford added 11. Giannis Antetokounmpo had 29 points and 18 rebounds in the loss. Khris Middleton, Milwaukee’s second-leading scorer, didn’t play.
Why Bet on Washington?
As noted above, All-Star guard Bradley Beal will miss this game and at least one more with a wrist injury. The team said Beal’s status beyond those two games will be updated after further evaluation. Beal sustained a sprained left wrist during the third quarter of Saturday’s loss to Memphis. While he was able to finish that game, he’ll undergo further evaluation on that wrist injury before being cleared to return to action.
Beal is averaging 23.2 points this season. He missed time earlier in January after entering health and safety protocols. Beal scored a season-low nine points in the loss Saturday as he failed to hit double figures in scoring for the first time this season. With Beal out, Corey Kispert will likely return to the starting lineup. Spencer Dinwiddie could become the No. 1 option offensively even though Dinwiddie isn’t having the best of seasons. He’s averaging 13 points, six assists, and five rebounds on 39 percent shooting from the field and 31 percent shooting from 3-point range.
The Wizards have lost five straight and have fallen out of playoff position after winning 10 of their first 13 games this season. Beal is eligible to reach unrestricted free agency this summer, so the Wizards’ moves at the trade deadline and their performance in the second half will be worth monitoring closely.
In Sunday’s loss to Memphis, Thomas Bryant got the start at center and Daniel Gafford was completely out of the rotation after being the starter the majority of the season. Gafford is averaging career-bests in points (9.2), rebounds (6.1) and blocks (1.6).
Coach Wes Unseld Jr. said that he “wanted to see [Thomas Bryant] with that starting group. We’re going to give it a handful of games and see how it goes. I think he’s still working his way back, but he was a starter last year on a playoff team.”
Why Bet on Milwaukee?
The Bucks were shocked at home Sunday by Denver, 136-100. Denver took control in the third quarter. The Nuggets led 118-93 when the Bucks called a timeout with 5:55 left to play and cleared the bench. “They were significantly better than us tonight,” Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer said.
Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 29 points on 9-of-19 shooting (10-of-15 free throws) and added nine rebounds and two assists. The Greek Feak’s streak of 25-point games hit 16 on Sunday, but he was the only Bucks player who showed up on Sunday. Khris Middleton particularly was a non-factor, scoring just nine points on 4-of-8 shooting to go with seven assists, five rebounds and two steals.
Antetokounmpo is averaging 28.8 points, 11.3 rebounds, a career-high 5.9 assists and 1.41 blocks per game while shooting 53.4% from the field. All of those numbers are in the top 20 of the league rankings. He will start in the All-Star Game yet again.
Jrue Holiday scored 14 points, and Bobby Portis added 11 for the Bucks. Grayson Allen finished with 11 points in his second start since serving a one-game suspension for his flagrant foul 2 on the Chicago Bulls’ Alex Caruso that resulted in a fractured right wrist. Backup point guard George Hill didn’t play with neck soreness.
Milwaukee’s magic number is 120 as the Bucks are 15-0 when scoring at least 120 points. They are 22-1 when they shoot 46% or better from the field. The Bucks are 18-9 at home. Milwaukee is finishing a stretch where it will have played eight of 10 games at home between Jan. 13 and tonight.
Defensively, Milwaukee gives up the most 3s in the league per possession (41.6 per 100). That’s largely because the Bucks focus on protecting the paint. The Nuggets killed them from deep, though.
