Betting 2024 Barracuda Championship | Know the Basics

The 2024 Barracuda Championship is set to go on from Tahoe Mountain Club’s Old Greenwood.

Truckee California is the home of the event that has gone on since 1999.

It is not considered the Reno-Tahoe Open, and goes on the same time as the Open Championship.

The 71 course is nearly 7,500 yards.

The prize fund for this event is $4M.

Vaughn Taylor has the course record for the event at -21.

Ashkay Bhatia won the event last season.

Let’s take a look at the Barracuda Championship Odds, Top 3 and our picks to win.

Writer’s Picks for the 2024 Barracuda Championship

Keith Mitchell +1600

Ranked 74th in the FedEx Cup rankings, and 84th in the world.

The 32-year old from Chattanooga comes into the event 14th in driving distance, as he is hitting nearly 310 yards per attempt.

Mitchell is 13th in greens in regulation, at 71.11.

This season he has not won an event, but finished in the Top 10 three times.

He also has 9 top 25 finishes.

Mitchell is coming off missing the cut at the Scottish Open, which came after 18th at the John Deere Classic.

He is listed at +1600 to win the event.

Taylor Pendrith +2200

Pendrith comes into the event listed 32 in the FedEx Cup standings, and 59th in the world.

The Canadian is coming off a 72nd place finish in Detroit at the end of June.

Before that he went for 16th at the US Open and 23rd at the Travelers Championship.

Pendrith is 14th in driving distance, with 309.7, while 25th in scoring average at 70.4.

He comes into the event looking for his 2nd win of the season.

He is also seeking his 5th Top 10 finish of the season, and 10th time inside the Top 25.

Michael Thorbjornsen +2500

The 22 year old from Cleveland Ohio is ranked 121st in the world.

He is coming into the event fresh off missing the cut in Kentucky at the ISCO Championship.

Before that, he went to the John Deere Classic, and was -24, which was tied for second.

He is a force at events like this, and we expect him to be right in the middle of the leaderboard when the final day comes.

He is listed at +2500 to win this event, which would be his first of the season, and second in the Top 10.

Others in Consideration:

  • Chan Kim +2500
  • Sam Stevens +2800
  • Patrick Rodgers +2800
  • Nick Dunlap +3000
  • Kevin Yu +3300
  • Beau Hossler +3500
  • Rico Hoey +3500
  • Mac Meissner +3500
  • Mark Hubbard +3500

Michael Thorbjornsen +2500

When push comes to shove, we are going to start our betting for this event with Keith Mitchell, the favorite.

We feel he is the best golfer in this event, and prepared to take on the challenges of the course.

We like Mitchell, with his betting odds listed at +1600.

Our second bet is Patrick Rodgers +2800.

The veteran golfer should be able to get around the course with little to no issues, and we really think he is going to be able to compete.

Listing him at +2800 is a great value for those that place a bet with him.

PGA Tour 2023 Barracuda Championship Betting Odds, Favorites to Win, and Analysis

Previous Betting News

The Barracuda Championship returns to the Old Greenwood Course at the Tahoe Mountain Club in Truckee, California, right next to Lake Tahoe and the California-Nevada border. Beginning in 2022, the Barracuda Championship is a co-sanctioned event between the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour.

This tournament utilizes the Modified Stableford scoring system, a unique twist to scoring that rewards aggressive play. In this scoring system, the player receives +8 points for a double eagle, +5 points for an eagle, +2 points for a birdie, no points for a par, -1 for a bogey, and -3 for a double bogey.

Chez Reavie returns to the Sierra Nevada mountains to defend his title. Reavie accumulated 43 points, beating Alex Noran by one point. A year earlier, Erik van Rooyen set the tournament record with a four-day total of 50 points.

Let’s take a look at the top players for the 2023 Barracuda Championship so you can wager against their PGA Tour odds to win this golf tournament.

2023 Barracuda Championship Betting Odds, Favorites to Win and Analysis | MyBookie PGA Tour Preview

2023 Reno–Tahoe Open | 25th edition of the PGA Tour event
Tahoe Mountain Club (Old Greenwood Course) | Truckee, California
July 17th – July 23rd, 2023

The Old Greenwood Course

The scorecard shows a layout that runs over 7.400 yards in length and plays as a par-71. Sitting 6,000 feet above sea level, Old Greenwood is a bomber’s paradise. The large greens on the property offer ample scoring opportunities.

Accuracy off the tee will be paramount this week for the players. Many of the fairways are lined with large trees, and there are numerous bunkers littered throughout the property.

The Barracuda Championship Field

The best players in the world are teeing it up this week at the Open Championship in England, but there remains a solid field of players looking to change the trajectory of their professional careers.

Keith Mitchell is the highest-ranked player in the field this week, sitting 62nd in the official world golf rankings and 63rd in the FedEx Cup standings. Vincent Norrman, last week’s winner at the Barbasol Championship, looks to make it two in a row as he tries to lock up his second PGA Tour victory.

Reavie is joined by recent winners van Rooyen and Richy Werenski in the field. All three haven’t won on the PGA Tour since their victories in Tahoe, with van Rooyen and Werenski picking up their first and only wins here.

The Betting Favorites

The pre-tournament betting favorite this week is Stephen Jager (+1450). Jager has had a solid season at the age of 34 and continues to search for that first Tour victory.

Canada’s Taylor Pendrith (+1950) is next in line following Jager. Another player still on the hunt for his first win, the 32-year-old, comes to the Barracuda on the heels of a T14 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic and solo sixth at the Barbasol.

Mitchell (+2000) attempts to get back into the winner’s circle for the second time in his career. The 2019 Honda Classic winner made the trip across the pond for the Scottish Open but failed to make the cut.

Beau Hossler (+2100), Patrick Rodgers (+2200), and Mark Hubbard (+2200) fill out the betting favorites this week. All three players join the list of hopefuls looking to win for the first time. Each has tasted victory on the Korn Ferry Tour, but a win this week would secure their PGA Tour status for the next two years.

South America’s MJ Daffue, Lucas Glover, and Bhatia round out the top betting favorites at +2800 apiece. Glover is trending in the right direction after a T4 at the Rocket Mortgage and T6 last weekend at the John Deere.

PGA Tour 2021 Barracuda Championship Betting Analysis & Prediction

Previous Betting News

The Barracuda Championship returns as an alternate event to the WGC-FedEx Invitational. This is an important week for many players around the top 125 in FedEx Cup points as there is only one week remaining in the regular season.

Tournament play will begin on Thursday, August 5th, and crown a champion on Sunday, August 8th. Tahoe Mountain Club (Old Greenwood) is the host of the event for the second year in a row.

Richy Werenski won his first and only PGA Tour title here in 2020 and is back to defend his title. The winner receives 300 FedEx Cup points and a large portion of the $3.5 million purse. With all that in mind, let’s take a a closer look at the upcoming 2021 Barracuda Championship so you can get ready to bet against their PGA Tour odds.

PGA Tour Betting – Barracuda Championship Preview

The Course

Tahoe Mt. Club was opened in 2004 and designed by Jack Nicklaus. The course plays as a par-71 and reads 7,425 yards from the tips. Set over 6,000 feet above sea level, Old Greenwood offers a trio of short and drivable par-4’s along with large greens.

The Field

Many players teeing it up in the event will be jockeying for position inside the top 125 in FedEx Cup points. Those players inside the number after next weekend’s Wyndham Championship lock up their card for next season and a spot in the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Three Olympians, Mito Pereira, Rafa Campos, and Thomas Pieters, travel from Tokyo to Lake Tahoe for the event. Seven players ranked 120-130 in the standings will be teeing it up fighting for their cards. Only Adam Scott (123), Ricky Fowler (125), and Charles Howell III (130) won’t be in Tahoe.

The Barracuda Championship handed out sponsorship invites to a handful of college players, including John Pak and David Thompson. Five-time PGA Tour winner John Daly will make his third start in a non-major this season.

About Modified Stableford Scoring

The Barracuda Championship is the only event on the PGA Tour schedule that uses this unique scoring approach. The scoring system encourages aggressive play and awards players who avoid the large numbers.

Modified Stableford scoring awards points based on the number of strokes taken on each hole. Scoring looks like this:

The motto playing this scoring system is to attack the holes. A birdie gives the player two positive points, while a bogey would only hurt the player with one negative number.

Betting Notes

With the betting odds up for the tournament, Maverick McNealy and Branden Grace sit atop the leaderboard at +1600 odds. McNealy finished solo seventh here last season, and a victory would give the 25-year old his first PGA Tour title.

Pereira and Emiliano Grillo can be grabbed at +1800 on the board. Pereira lost in a playoff in Tokyo for the bronze medal. Grillo placed T9 here last season and has a T12 (Open Championship) and T8 (Charles Schwab Challenge) finishes in his previous six starts.

Troy Merritt (+2200) rounds out the top-5. Merritt placed second here the last two seasons, including entering Sunday as the 54-hole leader in 2019.

The last five winners of the event were first-time winners on the PGA Tour.

Barracuda Championship Odds & Analysis – PGA Tour Betting

Previous Betting News

While many eyes will be on the St. Jude Invitational this weekend, serious golf fans will also be paying attention to the Barracuda Championship. While this is considered an alternative event on the tour, it is still an important one for the players involved, many of whom will be unfamiliar to the casual golf fan. The players taking part in the Barracuda Championship are playing for a chance to get into the PGA Championship, while others will be looking to do enough to maintain their PGA Tour Card for another two years. One thing to pay attention to here is that this evet uses the Stableford Modified Scoring System, which means that players try to accumulate points as opposed to playing to par. We don’t see this system very often, and that alone makes it fun to watch. Let’s take a closer look at some of the favorites for this weekend, along with their PGA odds.

Barracuda Championship Odds & Analysis

Russell Henley (+1800)

Like many of the players at this event, Henley has not put up any sort of eye-popping stats this season, but that is not to suggest that he has been poor. In fact, he does have a pair of top 10 finishes on the season, and while it has been several years since he last won on the tour, he does have 3 career victories under his belt. Henley looks to be the clear favorite here, but these events are always a bit of a crapshoot when it comes to picking an outright winner. Given the odds for a favorite, though, he would be well worth throwing some money at.

Brendan Steele (+2200)

I am going to go out on a limb and pick Steele to come out on top this weekend. He returned to action after the lockdown and struggled in his first event back, failing to make the cut. Since then, though, he has put in some nice performances in tournaments featuring players who are way higher in the rankings than those he will go against this weekend. He finished T6 at the Travelers Championship and was T13 at the Memorial last weekend. Overall, he has 3 top 10 finishes this season, so I think he is the man to beat here.

Ryan Moore (+2200)

Moore has landed a couple of top 10 finishes, and while he struggled to find his best after the return to action, there are signs that he is getting his groove back. When the PGA returned in June, Moore got things rolling by missing 3 straight cuts. That type of form is hard to bounce back from, but he restored some calm with a T32 finish at the Memorial before posting a T12 finish at the 3M open. Moore looks to have his confidence back, so he is certainly worth looking at in this group.

Alex Noren (+2200)

This is another player well worth a look this weekend. If you look at his PGA Tour stats, you see that he has zero wins, which would probably turn you away rather quickly. That said, though, the Swede has no less than 11 wins in international tournaments, so it’s not like he doesn’t know his way to the top of the leaderboard. He is coming off a strong performance at the 3M Open, where he finished T3. It would not be a surprise to see a similar performance this weekend.

2019 Barracuda Championship Odds, Preview & Prediction

Previous Betting News

While much of the attention of PGA players and fans will be at the FedEx St. Jude Classic in Memphis, Tennessee, there is another very interesting event set for this weekend, July 25-28 in Reno, Nevada. We are talking about the Barracuda Championship, and while you may not know many of the players at this event, it is the set-up that makes it so interesting.

The players at the Barracuda Championship play under the Modified Stableford scoring system, where players are awarded points for their score at each hole as opposed to playing to par. The goal here is to get the highest score rather than the lowest score, so let’s take a look at some of the golf betting favorites to win the 2019 Barracuda Championship.

2019 Barracuda Championship Odds, Preview & Prediction

Location: Reno, Nevada, U.S.
Established: 1999
Course: Montrêux Golf & Country Club
Par: 72
Length: 7,472 yards
Tour: PGA Tour
Format: Modified Stableford
Prize fund: $3.5 million

Collin Morikawa

2019 Barracuda Championship Odds: +1000

Morikawa is a player that most casual golf fans will not have heard of, but that does not mean that he hasn’t had some very nice moments this season. He has a brief appearance on the tour in 2017 before becoming exempt again this year.

His best performance came at the 3M Open, where he finished tied for second, but he also has a 4th place finish at the John Deere Classic under his belt in 2019. Given the level of competition on display here, this represents a real opportunity for Morikawa to get his first win on the PGA Tour.

Martin Laird

2019 Barracuda Championship Odds: +1800

The Scotsman does have a little bit of history at this event, finishing in second back in 2009, although that came at a time before the current scoring system was put into place.

As for the current year, it has not been bad at all for Laird, as he has landed in the top 10 on 3 different occasions. One of those came last weekend, with Laird finishing tied for 6th at the Barbasol Championship. It was a nice return to form for him, and it may be enough to put him in the hunt when Sunday afternoon rolls around.

Martin Kaymer

2019 Barracuda Championship Odds: +1800

As far as household names go at this event, it may well be the German who is the most recognizable, although that alone does not necessarily mean that he is the best bet here. 2019 has proven to be a tough year for Kaymer, as he has managed just a single top 10 appearance, landing in 3rd at the Nationwide Memorial Tournament.

That came back in June, after which he has a T35 finish at the US Open. There has been a gap since he last played on the Tour, so the possibility of rust makes him perhaps one to avoid.

Daniel Berger

2019 Barracuda Championship Odds: +2000

Berger comes into this tournament with 2 career wins under his belt, but it has been a while since he has landed on top of the leaderboard.

There is little to suggest that he might be about to have a breakout event, with his best finish of the season coming at the Puerto Rico Open, where he finished tied for 2nd. That is the only time that he has cracked the top 10 this year. He does routinely make the cut, but seeing him landing on top here feels like a bit of a stretch.

2018 Barracuda Championship Golf Betting Odds & Prediction

Previous Betting News

The PGA Tour has a couple of events going on this weekend, which means that those of you who love to wager on golf have a couple of chances to win. While most people will have their eyes on the Bridgestone Invitational, there is another great event set to tee off at the Montreux Golf and Country Club in Reno, Nevada. The 2018 Barracuda Championship may not be home to the biggest names in golf, but there are still an awful lot of good players there looking for a share of the $3.4 million purse.

This tournament is also different in that it uses the Modified Stableford scoring system, which means player score points as opposed to trying to get under par. You may not be familiar with a lot of these guys, so let’s take a closer look at the golf odds for some of the favorites to win.

2018 Barracuda Championship Golf Betting Odds & Prediction

Location: Reno, Nevada, U.S.
Established: 1999
Course: Montrêux Golf and Country Club
Par: 72
Length: 7,472 yards
Tour: PGA
Format: Modified Stableford
Prize fund: $3.4 million

Joel Dahmen

Dahmen is currently ranked #180 in the world, and while he has never won on the PGA Tour, he has had some notable finishes over the past couple of seasons. His best performance came at the John Deere Classic, where he finished tied for second, but he is also coming off a very strong performance last weekend, landing in the top 10 at the RBC Canadian Open.

Prior to this season, Dahmen had only had one top 10 finish on the tour, so it is more than fair to suggest that the 30-year old is having a bit of a breakout year. He is certainly a worthy favorite for this tournament.

Richy Werenski

Another player who has yet to pick up a win on the PGA Tour, but also one who has come close more than once. One thing worth noting here is that one of his closes flirtations with the top of the leaderboard came at this event in 2017, where he ended up finishing tied for second.

That would seem to suggest that he likes this course and tournament and is why I am taking him to win it this year. Werenski has a pair of top 10 finishes this season, with his best performance of 2018 coming at the Barbasol Championship, where he finished second.

Shane Lowry

The Irishman comes into this event as one of the top 100 players in the world, although it’s fair to suggest that his form this season has not been his best. He has yet to crack the top 10 in any of the events that he has played in, although he did finish just outside that mark at the RBC Canadian Open last weekend.

Unlike many of the other players in this tournament, Lowry does have a win on the PGA Tour, although that one came all the way back in 2015. I just don’t think he is playing well enough to get the win here.

Andrew Putnam

It can certainly be argued that Putnam is among the most consistent player among this group in 2018, as he has no less than 4 top 10 finishes to his name this season.

His best performance came at the St. Jude Classic, where he finished second. Again, this is a player who has yet to make it to the top of the leaderboard during his time in the PGA, but he is certainly someone worth having a look at given his record this season.

Golf Preview & Prediction for 2018 Quicken Loans National

Previous Betting News

The pros on the PGA Tour will be heading to the TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm course this weekend for the Quicken Loans National. They will be asked to tackle a very tough Par 70, 7,107-yard course where water comes into play on 8 different holes, so it’s no real surprise that this course has consistently delivered double bogeys when tournaments have been held here in the past, which is why is reading the Golf betting odds to win is not going to be easy, but that’s why we are here.

This is a course that will suit players who are driving well and with distance, as that generally means that the worst of the hazards can be avoided. Does that bode well for Tiger Woods, who will be in this event, or will it play into the hands of the players who are the masters of the layup? Let’s take a closer look at some of the favorites for the PGA Quicken Loans National.

Golf Betting Preview & Prediction for 2018 Quicken Loans National

Tournament Info

Location: Potomac, Maryland, U.S.
Established: 2007, 11 years ago
Course: TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm
Par: 70
Length: 7,107 yards (6,499 m)
Tour: PGA
Format: Stroke play
Prize fund: $7.1 million

Golf Betting Favorites to Win

Rickie Fowler (+650)

Fowler has yet to pick up a win on tour this year, but you get the definite sense that he is due. His best performance came at The Masters, where he finished second, but he has also had 3 other top 10 finishes in the 2018 season. This will be his first tournament since the US Open, where he tied for 20th.

The big question here, though, is whether he can finally get that elusive win, especially when you consider that he only has 4 victories in his career, 2 of which came back in 2015. Fowler is very often the near man, but he has a real shot against a weaker field in this event.

Tiger Woods (+1200)

After a few false starts over the years, it finally looks as though this Tiger Woods comeback to the PGA is going to stick. Woods made a positive return to the tour in the early going but has struggled a little of late, failing to make the cut at the US Open, the last event he played at.

If he can get his driver working here, though, he could be in with a shot, as this course will reward long, accurate drives. It has been consistency that has hurt Woods, though, as he has not really been able to put together 4 good rounds very often. Perhaps he will do it this weekend.

Marc Leishman (+1800)

The Aussie is coming off a career-best year in 2017, where he has a pair of wins on the tour. He has yet to land atop the leaderboard this season, but he does have a pair of second-place finishes under his belt. Leishman has had a tough time of things lately, though, with a trio of disappointing performances coming on the heels of a 2nd place finish at the Byron Nelson.

He played at the Traveler’s Championship last weekend and failed to make the cut, so it’s hard to imagine that he is suddenly going to turn his game around and win here.

Francesco Molinari (+2200)

This is a tournament where a longshot is likely to emerge from the field to get the win, but can the Italian do enough to be that player? It’s tough to imagine that he can manage to land on top of the leaderboard here, as his best finish on the tour this season is a tie for 16th.

Let’s also remember that at 35 years of age, Molinari has still not won on the PGA Tour, with all 4 of his career wins coming at international venues.

2017 PGA Quicken Loans National Odds, Overview & Picks

Previous Betting News

The PGA season is not yet really winding down, but the scramble for FedEx Cup points is now very real, as there are only 10 events left before the playoffs begin. This weekend sees some of the tour’s best head to Washington DC to play in the Quicken Loans National, which will be held at the TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm course.

This will be the first time that this event has been held at this course, and there will be 120 players looking to grab a share of the $7.1 million purse, with $1.278 million going to the winner. We are going to have a look at some of the favorites for this event, as well as a few potential sleeper picks, and we are also going to make a prediction on who will win.

A Closer Look At The 2017 PGA Quicken Loans National Odds, Overview & Picks

PGA Quicken Loans National Favorites

Rickie Fowler (+650)

We last saw Fowler at the US Open, where he put in a solid performance and ended up tied for 5th. Fowler does have a win on tour this season, picking up the title at the Honda Classic. He has 6 top 10 finishes to go with that win and is currently sitting in 9th in the FedEx Cup standings. He looks like the man to beat this weekend, and I certainly think he will be in the top 5.

Justin Thomas (+1000)

Thomas is having himself a career year in 2017, with 3 tour wins under his belt so far, which is good enough to put him in 3rd in the FedEx Cup standings. He finished in the top 10 at the US Open, and while he missed the cut at his last event, I think he is the player who is going to win it all this weekend.

Patrick Reed (+1100)

Reed would ordinarily be considered a bit of a longshot, but among this group, he has a legitimate shot at winning. He does not have a victory on the tour this season, but does have 5 career wins under his belt. He has been in form in his last two tournaments, going well at the US Open and finishing tied for 5th at the Travelers.

Kevin Chappell (+1800)

This is a player who seems to play his best golf at the tougher courses on the tour, and that is a category that the TPC Potomac certainly falls under. Chappell has 1 win and a trio of top 10 finishes this season, with his victory coming at the Valero Texas Open. He may be among the favorites, but I don’t see him being a serious contender this weekend.

Marc Leishman (+1800)

The Australian had a win this season at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and has landed in the top 20 in 3 of his last 5 tournaments. He is another one that is perhaps not as good as his odds here would suggest. I would be looking elsewhere when wagering on this event.

PGA Quicken Loans National Sleepers

Bill Haas (+2500)

Haas has won this tournament before, so should automatically be considered a threat to do so again. He put in a solid performance at the US Open, tying for 5th, and playing consistently well through all 4 rounds. Well worth a look here.

Kevin Streelman (+4000)

This is a man in a rich vein of form right now, as he has finished in the top 10 in each of his last 3 events, including an 8th place finish at the Travelers last weekend. He could well be one that hangs around and makes a run on Sunday.

David Hearn (+8000)

Fear can be a great motivator, and that is what may be working for David Hearn right now. This is a player that looks as though he really wants to retain his PGA card, as he has put together back to back top 10 finishes in his last two events. Look for another solid performance from the Canadian golfer this weekend.
