Betting 2024 St. Jude Championship | Know the Basics

Memphis Tennessee will host the 2024 St. Jude Classic this weekend.

This tournament was played from 1958 through 2018, and now has been brought back as part of the tour.

Dustin Johnson won the event with -19 in the final season.

Before that, Daniel Berger won it back to back seasons.

TPC Southwind will be the host of the event.

The par 70, 7244 yard course will pose plenty of challenges for the golfers.

Let’s take a look at the St. Jude Championship odds, the top 3 and final pick for the event:

Writer’s Top 3 Picks for the Next St. Jude Championship

Scottie Scheffler +330

What a season for the top golfer on the planet.

The Olympic Champion in Paris has been on the top of the world all season.

He was a Top 10 finisher at the Open Championship, he won the Travelers Championship, he took down the Memorial Tournament, the RBC, the Masters and several others.

No golfer has been better on the PGA Tour than Scottie Scheffler.

It will be fun to see how he fares in this event.

There is no doubt he is a big time favorite, but with the odds as low as they are, avoiding him to continue winning may be the play.

Xander Schauffele +800

The 30 year old from La Jolla has been incredible as well.

Xander has just two wins on the season, but both big major events.

He has finished in the Top 10, 12 times this season.

He also has the most Top 25 finishes on the tour, with 17.

He has been great at scrambling, and a skill he will need to get around TPC Southwind.

Schauffele has pretty good value coming into this event listed at +800.

He is one of our picks to win the event, based on his current betting odds and the value.

Rory Mcllroy +1000

Rory continues to fire off solid rounds.

He did not have a great weekend at the Open Championship, as he missed the cut at Royal Troon.

Rory is third in the world rankings, and third in the current FedEx Cup standings.

The 35 year old from Northern Ireland is second at 1.621 strokes gained tee to green.

He also has the second best driving distance of anyone on the tour at 319.2 yards per drive.

At 10/1, Rory brings solid value to the table in Memphis.

Others to Consider:

  • Collin Morikawa +1200
  • Ludvig Aberg +2200
  • Patrick Cantlay +2500
  • Hideki Matsuyama +2500
  • Tommy Fleetwood +3000
  • Viktor Hovland +3500
  • Corey Conners +3500

There you have it. Those are the top 3 in order of betting odds, with some other of the top golfers in the event.

When push comes to shove our final bets for this event are Xander Schauffele at +800 and Hideki Matsuyama at +2500.

Those two are built for this course, and bring the best value to the table.

We hope you enjoy the event, and want to wish you the best of luck with all your PGA Tour betting!

PGA Tour 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship Betting Odds, Favorites to Win, and Analysis

Previous Betting News

The FedEx Cup Playoffs begin this week with the top 70 players in the standings teeing up at the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee.

The four-day, individual stroke play event will feature no cut, and the top 50 finishers will move on to next week’s BMW Championship. The first round of the tournament begins on Thursday, August 10th, with the event concluding on Sunday, August 13th.

The defending champion of the event is Will Zalatoris, who won’t be back to defend his title as he recovers from an injury that has kept him sidelined for the majority of 2023. Zalatoris picked up his first PGA Tour win by knocking off Sepp Straka in a playoff. He finished the tournament with a score of 265 (15-under).

This season’s playoffs will be the first time the opening field has been reduced from 125 players to just 70. Additionally, the prize money has increased from a $15 million dollar purse last season to $20 million this year, with $3.6 million going to the winner.

That said, let’s take a closer look at the upcoming FedEx St. Jude Championship tournament so you can bet against the PGA betting lines.

PGA Betting Preview for the 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship | MyBookie PGA Tour Betting Preview

FedEx St. Jude Championship | 66th edition of the FedEx St. Jude Championship
Thursday, August 10th – Sunday August 13th, 2023
TPC Southwind, Memphis, Tennessee

TPC Southwind

TPC Southwind was established in 1988 under the design of Ron Prichard, along with player input from Fuzzy Zoeller and Hubert Green. The par-70 layout stretches just over 7,200 yards and statistically ranks as one of the most challenging courses on the PGA schedule.

The venue is run by the PGA Tour as part of the Tournament Players Club and has hosted a professional event since 1989. Hole #14 is a notable par three that can measure up to 239 yards from the back tees, making the hole one of the most difficult par 3s the players will face this season.

The Field

The field is stacked with all 70 of the top players in the FedEx Cup Standings expected to tee it up this week. Headlining the field are the top players in the world, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Jon Rahm, who haven’t been in action since last month’s Open Championship. McIlroy is the defending FedEx Cup champion and a three-time winner of the season-long title.

Three of this year’s major winners are in action this week, led by Rahm (The Masters), Wyndham Clark (U.S. Open), and Brian Harman (Open Championship). Seven players in this week’s field have won multiple times on tour this year.

There are six PGA Tour rookies that punched their ticket to the postseason, including the last man in the field, Ben Griffin. Griffin edged former FedEx Cup champion Justin Thomas by only nine points for the last spot.

FedEx St. Jude Championship Betting Favorites

Scheffler (+630) is the betting favorite heading into the event as he looks to continue his impressive season that is highlighted by a pair of wins and 15 top-10 finishes in 20 events. McIlroy and Rahm are next in line at +870, both looking to add to their multiple victories in 2022-23.

Closing out the pre-tournament betting favorites are Patrick Cantlay (+1625), Xander Schauffele (+1750), and Viktor Hovland (+1925). Cantlay and Schauffele have pieced together excellent seasons but have been held without a victory this year.

PGA Tour 2021 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational Betting Update

Previous Betting News

The 2021 FedEx St. Jude Invitational tees off this weekend, beginning Thursday, August 5th, and concluding on Sunday, August 8th, at TPC Southwinds near Memphis, TN. The PGA Tour was off last week, with the men’s Olympic competition taking place in Tokyo, Japan. Check out our latest Golf Betting update for the upcoming St. Jude Invitational so you can get all set to bet against the PGA Tour odds.

PGA Tour Betting – WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational Preview

Overview

This will be the third annual WGC event held at TPC Southwind, one of four World Golf Championship events throughout the PGA Tour season. Before becoming a TPC event, TPC Southwind hosted the FedEx St. Jude Classic, formerly named the Memphis Open, since 1989.

The tournament winner gets 550 FedEx Cup points and $1.89 million of the $10.5 million purse. Justin Thomas is the defending champion after a 13-under in 2020 bested four players by three strokes.

TPC Southwind

TPC Southwind is a private golf club located in southeast Memphis. The course stretches 7,233 yards and is a par-70. There are 94 bunkers and ten water hazards found throughout the property, making it the ninth-hardest course on Tour.

The course opened its doors in 1988 after being designed by Ron Prichard with the consultation of Tour pros Hubert Green and Fuzzy Zoeller. The greens and rough consist of Bermuda grass, while the tees and fairways are Zoysia.

FedEx St. Jude Invitational Field

The field is loaded with star players for this week’s WGC event. Forty-eight of the top-50 ranked players in the world will be participating in the golf tournament. There is no cut this week with a small field of 66 players.

The world’s number one ranked golfer, Jon Rahm, won’t be playing this week after a positive COVID-19 test forced him to withdraw from the Olympics. Rahm joins South African Christiaan Bezuidenhout as the only two players ranked inside the top 50 to miss the event.

Collin Morikawa won his second major championship last month and is the current FedEx Cup leader, with one week remaining in the regular season following this event. Morikawa tries to capture his second WGC title this season after winning the Workday Championship in February.

After a lackluster performance in Tokyo, Justin Thomas returns to TPC Southwind to defend his title. 2019 champion Brooks Koepka finished T2 here last season and enters in peak form. Koepka’s finished T6 or better in four of his previous five events.

Player to Target

A few players are teeing it up Thursday that have had historical success at this course and should be players you target before the first group of players head out Thursday morning.

Koepka is well up on the odds board, and for a good reason, with past success on this track. Another favorite, Dustin Johnson, also has had good fortunes at TPC Southwind, winning in 2018 and fifth-place showing in 2016.

Peering down the list of players, a name that stands out is Daniel Berger. Berger has played here four times, with a pair of victories when it was the former FedEx St. Jude Classic and a co-runner-up finish last season.

Finally, there is the recent PGA Championship winner Phil Mickelson. Mickelson should be near the bottom of the odds board, but the 50-year old has done well at this course. Lefty was T2 in 2020 and has never finished outside of T12 on this course when he’s played.

PGA Tour 2021 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational Betting Analysis & Prediction

Previous Betting News

The PGA Tour returns next week with the World Golf Championship – FedEx St. Jude Invitational at TPC Southwinds in Memphis, TN. The Invitational is one of the four annual WGC events. Tournament play begins on Thursday, August 5th, and runs until Sunday, August 8th. It’s time to take a closer look at the upcoming event so you can bet against their PGA Tour odds.

PGA Tour Betting – WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational Preview

2021 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational

This event has roughly half the size of a typical PGA Tour event, and there is no cut line after 36 holes of play. Players are invited to the tournament based on a list of credentials that make it an inclusive event.

Justin Thomas is the defending champion after a 3-stroke victory last season over four other competitors. The purse for St. Jude is $10.5 million, with the winner grabbing $1.82 of that total.

This will be the third season for the event in Memphis and St. Jude sponsorship after a 12-year run as the Bridgestone Invitational played in Firestone, OH. However, TPC Southwind has been the host of the annual FedEx St. Jude Classic, formerly titled the Memphis Open, since 1989.

The course was opened 33-years ago in 1988 and was designed by Ron Prichard with consultation from tour pros Hubert Green and Fuzzy Zoeller.

News and Notes

John Rahm withdrew from the event before he headed to Tokyo for the Olympics. How that Rahm had to withdraw from the Olympics due to a positive COVID test, it is not clear if the World No. 1 will recommit to playing in Memphis or not.

Even if Rahm does not play, the tournament got commitments early in this week from three players, Tommy Fleetwood, Adam Scott, and Ian Poulter, all ranked in the top-50 in the world. They join three players from the top-5, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, and Dustin Johnson, already committed to the event.

Rahm will be the only recent major winner not participating in the event next. Morikawa, Phil Mickelson, and Hideki Matsuyama each will be in Memphis. The field won’t be as strong as it typically is with players participating in the Olympics not making the trip back to the states due to the extensive travel.

Tournament Predictions

While odds typically are not posted until the event field is completed, we have some players to target next week in Memphis. The first two winners of this event at this course were Brooks Koepka (-16) in 2019 and Thomas (-13) last season.

Koepka will be a betting favorite and solid choice as a potential champion with a victory and T2 at this event this last two seasons. The 31-year old seems to always play with some extra motivation in these events, so don’t be surprised if, on Sunday afternoon, the bomber is in contention on the back nine.

A dark horse candidate to target once the odds are posted is Billy Horschel. The 34-year old University of Florida grad has performed well in WGC events over his career.

Horschel finished T2 at the WGC-Workday earlier this season before winning the WGC-Match Play in March. He finished T9 here in 2019 and followed that finish up with a T25 last season.

Other names to write down to see where their betting odds fall include recent Open Champion Collin Morikawa, Norway’s Viktor Hovland (T59 in 2020), and Daniel Berger (T2 in 2020).

PGA Tour Betting: WGC – FedEx St. Jude Invitational Analysis

Previous Betting News

It is going to be a busy weekend for golf fans, as there are a pair of PGA events set to take lace starting on Thursday, July 30. They are both important tournaments, but if you are interested in watching the top-ranked players in the world, then it is the WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational that you should be tuning into. The best players in the world will be heading to the TPC Southwind course in Memphis, Tennessee to take part in an event that changed names last season from the St. Jude Classic. The name may be different, but the quality of this tournament remains high. Brooks Koepka will be out to try and defend the title that he won last year, but he is going to have some very stiff competition. Let’s take a look at some of the favorites for this one so you can wager on against their PGA odds.

World Golf Championships – FedEx St. Jude Invitational Analysis

Jon Rahm

If you want to talk about consistency, you need to have Jon Rahm in the conversation. Over the past few seasons, the Spaniard has found a way to be in the mix in the vast majority of tournaments he has played in, and while that has not really translated into a lot of wins, it has propelled him to the #1 spot in the world. Rahm has 4 career wins on the PGA Tour, including a victory at the Memorial last weekend, a win that snapped a surprisingly poor run of form. Rahm led this event after the first round last season, but he fell away and finished 7th.

Justin Thomas

Since the PGA returned, Thomas has played in 5 tournaments and finished in the top 10 in 3 of them, including coming in 2nd at the Workday Charity Open a couple of weeks ago. Thomas now sits as the #3 player in the world, but perhaps more importantly, he is #1 in the FedEx Cup standings heading into this weekend. This is an event that he has not had a ton of joy at in the past, but he has been consistently solid this season, so he can never be counted out.

Rory McIlroy

The Irishman played a lot of golf once the PGA Tour restarted, but he was unable to get back the form that saw his season get off to a blistering start. He took a few weeks off before returning for the Memorial last weekend, where he managed to finish T32. McIlroy is too good of a player to stay in this slump for very long, and this may well be the event where he breaks out and gets back on track. He had a solid showing at the St. Jude last season, finishing tied for 4th. I would take a long hard look at McIlroy here.

Bryson DeChambeau

When he returned to the PGA after the lockdown, DeChambeau looked like a different player, bulking up and adding some serious muscle. It appears to have helped, as he has been in stunning form since coming back. He missed the cut at the Memorial last weekend, but in the 4 events prior to that, he never finished worse than 8th, while also picking up a win at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Last week was a blip on the radar, so look for him to be among the leaders this weekend.

2019 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational Odds, Preview & Expert Pick

Previous Betting News

On the PGA Tour, there is little time to reflect on what happened the week before. As such, when Thursday rolls around, it will be time for the players taking part in the 2019 FedEx St. Jude Classic to forget about the British Open last weekend. It’s a quick turnaround for the players taking part last week to get from Ireland to the TPC Southwind Course in Memphis Tennessee for the opening of the St. Jude Classic, which will run from Thursday, July 25 through Sunday, July 28.

Dustin Johnson will come in as the defending champion and will be looking for his 3rd win at this event. He will have some serious competition, though, so let’s look at some of the odds favorites to win the FedEx St. Jude Classic.

2019 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational Odds, Preview & Expert Pick

Dustin Johnson

As mentioned earlier, Dustin Johnson comes into this event as the defending champion, winning it last year, with his previous win at this tournament coming in 2012. With his win at the WGC-Mexico earlier this season, Johnson now has 20 wins on tour, but he is also a little off the blistering pace he set in the past few years when he sat at the #1 spot in the world.

His last two events have not gone well at all, missing the cut at the Rocket Mortgage Classic and then finishing T51 at the British Open last weekend. Johnson does like this tournament, but he is not in particularly good form.

Brooks Koepka

It has been a meteoric rise to the top for Brooks Koepka over the last couple of seasons, to the point that he is now #1 in both the world rankings and the 2019 FedEx Cup. Koepka has 2 wins on the season, matching his career-best mark from last year, which suggests that he is certainly on pace to have a career year.

All told, Koepka has 7 top 10 finishes this year, which helps explain why he has been able to maintain his top-ranked status. He is coming off a solid performance at the British Open, finishing tied for 4th in Ireland. He looks to be the best bet in Tennessee this weekend.

Rory McIlroy

If you are looking for one of the most consistent players on the Tour this season, you need to be looking at Rory McIlroy, with the Irishman landing in the top 10 on 11 different occasions, which includes a pair of wins. His biggest win came at the Players Championship, but he also performed well at the US Open, landing in the top 10 there.

McIlroy did not play between the US and British open events, which may have reflected in his performance in Ireland where he failed to make the cut. He is one to look out for this weekend, as he may be looking at a bounce-back performance.

Jon Rahm

Rahm is another player who is always consistent and in the hunt for the lead, but while he lands in the top 10 frequently, he seems to have a tough time getting over the top and getting the win.

He has one win on the tour this year at the Zurich Classic at New Orleans, but he has also landed in the top 10 on no less than 9 occasions. Rahm finished T3 at the US Open and landed just outside the top 10 at the British Open, the last 2 tournaments he played in. It would not be a surprise to see him go top 5 here.

Expert Golf Preview for 2018 FedEx St. Jude Classic

Previous Betting News

With the PGA Tour heading to TPC Southwind in sunny Memphis, Tennessee for the start of the 2018 St. Jude Classic on Thursday it’s time for some expert golf betting predictions that could help you cash in big over the course of the next four days. A semi-desperate Dustin Johnson is the prohibitive favorite at 6-1odds, with Brooks Koepka at 9-1 odds and) and Phil Mickelson a 14-1 pick.

With the final tournament before the U.S. Open set to get underway in just over 24 hours, let’s take a look at the latest PGA Tour Odds and the likely winner of this six-decade-old event.

Expert Golf Betting Preview for 2018 FedEx St. Jude Classic

2017

Daniel Berger won the St. Jude Classic in 2017 by finishing at 10-under par to narrowly beating out Kim Meen-whee by one stroke.

A Little Bit of History

Berger also claimed the 2016 title at St. Jude by shooting a 13-under par to beat out Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson, and Steve Stricker all by three strokes. Fabian Gonzalez won in 2015 with a 13-under par to beat out Greg Owen by four strokes.

Ben Crane won in 2014 by shooting a 10-under par to beat out Troy Merritt by one stroke. Harris English shot a 12-under par to claim the hardware in 2013 by two strokes over Mickelson and Scott Stallings and Dustin Johnson won this event in 2012 by shooting a 9-under par to beat out John Merrick by one stroke.

Now, let’s take a look at the odds and the handful of players I expect to really challenge for the title this weekend.

Golf Betting Odds to Win 2018 St. Jude Classic

Analyzing the Favorites

Dustin Johnson

Johnson win this event back in 2012 and he looked to be on top of his game in finishing T-8 in The Memorial last weekend. Despite not finding his way into the winner’s circle since January and losing his World No. 1 ranking to Justin Thomas recently, Johnson has also finished inside the top 20 in each of his last nine PGA Tour events and leads all golfers in strokes gained off the tee this year (1.003 per round)

Daniel Berger

Anytime you win the same tournament two years in a row, you’re a solid pick to do so again, no matter good or bad you may be playing prior to that tournament. Berger has a chance to join Dave Hill and Lee Trevino as the only golfers to win this event at least three times and his past history says he’s worthy of a wager at the very least. Berger finished 57th at The Players Championship and 55th at the Wells Fargo Championship, but he’s missed the cut just once in his last 14 events.

Phil Mickelson

‘Lefty’ has recorded three top-five finishes in the last five years at St. Jude and finished a solid T-13 at the Memorial last weekend.

Ben Crane

Crane has six Top 20 finishes in his career here plus his victory in 2014 and a top 10 finish a year ago.

Charl Schwartzel

Schwartzel finished T2 here last year and looks like he’s ready to get a win despite not making the cut at The Memorial last weekend. Prior to last week’s tourney, Schwartzel finished a stellar second at The Player’s Championship, ninth at Wells Fargo and third in the Zürich Classic.

I like one of these five golfers to win the 2018 St. Jude Classic and believe all are offering some great value at the latest Golf Betting Odds to win.

2017 Fedex St. Jude Classic Overview, Favorites & Odds

Previous Betting News

There is only one weekend left before the US Open, which means that the PGA’s best players have only one more tournament left to sharpen their game prior to the next major. That tournament will be the FedEx St. Jude Classic, which will be played at the TPC Southwind course in Memphis, Tennessee. It’s not going to be a galaxy of golf stars on display this coming weekend, but still a decent field, with 8 players currently in the top 30 taking part. There are some real nice prices to be had on these players, and it’s a solid opportunity to build up your bankroll before the wagering opens for the US Open next weekend. Let’s take a look at some of the players that will be on the course competing for the $1.152 million top prize. Find the latest golf betting odds here.

2017 Fedex St. Jude Classic Overview, Favorites & Odds

Rickie Fowler

The America appears to be hitting his form at just the right time, and will be looking to build on his second place finish at the Memorial last weekend. Fowler already has a win under his belt this season, the Honda Classic, and he will almost certainly be the betting odds favorite for this tournament. If he can play as well as he did over the 4 days last weekend, there is no reason why he can’t be atop the leaderboard on Sunday afternoon.

Adam Scott

We have all been sitting around waiting for Adam Scott to hit the type of form that we are used to, and this might well be the weekend where he delivers his first PGA Tour win of the season. He has saved his best performances of the year for the bigger tournaments, with two of his top 10 finishes coming at the Masters and the Players Championship. I think he will be among the leaders on the final day in Memphis.

Brooks Koepka

Koepka only has a single win in his PGA Tour career, but with this field, there is no reason why he can’t capture his second. It has been a solid enough year for the American, with a pair of second place finishes under his belt. Currently ranked #17 in the FedEx Cup standings, a solid performance here could see him climb over a few of the players who are sitting this tournament out.

Phil Mickelson

At 46 years of age, Mickelson may now be past his prime, but he is still certainly good enough to compete with the caliber of players on display this coming weekend. Mickelson has no less than 3 top 10 finishes his season, and while he may be a longshot to win in Memphis, there is a good chance that he could land himself another top 10 spot.

Francesco Molinari

The Italian has never won a PGA Tour event, but he has been in good form this season, land in the top 10 on 4 separate occasions. His best performance of the season came at the Players Championship, where he finished 6th against much better golfers than he will be facing this weekend. I think Molinari could be a solid dark horse pick.
