Why Bet on Dallas Mavericks?

Dallas comes off its second straight win, 142-124 in Detroit on Saturday. Luka Doncic registered 39 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in 37 minutes. He became the first player in NBA history with six straight triple-doubles with at least 30 points scored. He also extended his NBA record of consecutive 35-point triple-double games to five in a row. Doncic was 13-of-24 from the field, 4-of-13 from beyond the three-point arc and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. He also had three steals and two blocks, and had the Pistons under his thumb all night.

“That just shows where he’s playing at right now, the level that he’s at,” Mavs coach Jason Kidd said. “To be able to score and also being able to find his teammates, and then lastly being able to rebound the ball to help us on the defensive end.”

Saturday also marked the seventh time this season Doncic has enjoyed a half that consisted of at least 25 points, five rebounds and five assists. By contrast, the rest of the over 400 players in the entire NBA have combined for just four halves with at least 25 points, five rebounds and five assists this season. Doncic is 4 made 3s away from passing Jason Terry for 2nd on the Mavs all-time list for 3-pointers made (1,140). Doncic is 12 rebounds away from passing Shawn Bradley for 4th on the Mavs all-time list for rebounds (3,340).

Dallas built a 104-88 lead entering the fourth quarter as it scored at least 34 points in all four quarters. That efficiency helped the Mavs shoot 55.4 percent from the field and 36.8 percent (14-of-38) from three-point range. Kyrie Irving had 21 points and five assists and is averaging 25.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game since the All-Star break. The Mavs also received a big game from Tim Hardaway Jr., who made 4-of-8 three pointers and finished with 17 points.

Center Daniel Gafford had 17 points and seven rebounds in 24 minutes. With Dereck Lively (personal) away from the team, Gafford returned to the starting lineup and was impressive on both ends of the court, hitting each of his seven attempts from the field, showing energy on the glass and establishing himself as a disruptive presence on defense. He has now made 19 consecutive field goals, a franchise record. Since completing the trade from Washington to Dallas, Gafford has averaged 9.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game while shooting a stellar 73.5 percent from the field.

The Mavericks are 43-42 (.506) all-time against the Bulls franchise (25-18 at home, 18-24 on the road). The home team has taken seven of the last nine matchups. In eight career games against Chicago, Doncic is averaging 22.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 8.9 assists, after he averaged just 15.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists in his first two career games against the franchise.

Why Bet on Chicago Bulls?

Chicago went 1-3 on a just completed West Coast trip after losing 112-102 at the LA Clippers on Saturday. Norman Powell came off the bench and scored 18 points, including a pair of 3-pointers early in the fourth quarter as the Clippers scored 11 straight points to open the period after trailing 85-83 after three. The Bulls made only five of their 18 shots in the fourth quarter and missed eight of nine from beyond the arc.

“I thought we were getting downhill, with our attacks. As much as they hugged the paint, I thought we found ways to get crafty and get downhill,” LA’s Paul George said. “I thought we played defense. I thought that was the difference between the two halves. We played defense and brought some physicality.”

DeMar DeRozan finished with 24 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds, obviously two boards shy of registering the second triple-double of his career, and Saturday was the fifth time he has dished 10 or more assists in a game this season. DeRozan has upped his production in March and has averaged 26.2 points on 52.4 percent shooting (including 41.2 percent from three), 5.2 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game over his last five appearances.

Nikola Vucevic had 22 points and 11 boards. Vucevic has registered a double-double in each of his last four games and is up to 37 on the year. The big man has now tallied at least 20 points and 10 rebounds in three straight games. Vucevic is averaging 21.0 points on 48.9 percent shooting (including 42.9 percent from three) and 11.2 rebounds in March. He leads all active NBA centers in career double-doubles (506).

Coby White had 19 points and five rebounds but also five turnovers. White leads the Bulls with 184 made three-pointers and only trails out-for-season Zach LaVine for the most 3FGM in a season in Bulls history (LaVine holds the top-four spots).

Alex Caruso recorded four steals for the sixth time this season on Saturday and ranks first in the Eastern Conference and sixth in the NBA total steals with 86 this season. Caruso has the most games with four-plus steals in a season by any Bulls player since 2016-17 (J. Butler – 10) and is third in the NBA this season in such games.

The Bulls rank tied for second in least turnovers per game (12.3), seventh in total points off turnovers (1,097), sixth in total deflections (977), ninth in points off turnovers per game (17.1), tied for ninth in steals per game (7.7) and eighth in the NBA in total steals (491) this season.

DeRozan has tallied five or more assists in nine consecutive games versus Dallas, including six performances with minimums of 20 points and five assists. Vucevic tallied the eighth 20-point/20-rebound game of his career in his last meeting with Dallas.
