Are the Houston Astros the ‘real’ favorite to win the AL Pennant this season or will the once, undisputed ‘best team’ in the AL succumb to either Cleveland or Boston once the playoffs roll around? Could the longshot New York Yankees or even longer shot, Los Angeles Angels pull off the huge upset to represent the AL in the 2017 World Series? If you’ve got questions, then I’ve got answers on just which teams are offering the most value in the MLB odds of bagging the AL Pennant this season. The betting odds to Win the AL Pennant have been updated, so be sure to check all of them before placing any wagers.

Updated MLB Odds to Win AL Pennant – September 12th

The Favorite

Houston Astros

The Astros (86-57) are the favorite in the American League, but they’re clearly struggling right now and have lost four straight heading into Tuesday night to fall to 6-4 over their last 10. While they’ve still got a whopping 13-games lead over second place L.A. in the AL West, Houston needs to find some consistency before the end of the regular season. The good news is that the Astros rank a stellar first in runs scored (788), first in team batting average (.283) first in on-base percentage and first in slugging percentage.MLB Odds: 9/4Upcoming MLB Schedule
  • September 15-17 vs. Seattle Mariners
  • September 19-21 vs. Chicago White Sox
  • September 22-24 vs. LA Angels
  • September 25-27 @ Texas Rangers
  • September 28-October 1 @ Boston Red Sox

The Top Contenders

Cleveland Indians 5/2

Right now, the Indians (87-56) are clearly the best team in baseball as evidenced by their mind-boggling 19 straight wins heading into Tuesday night. The Tribe rank sixth in runs scored (733), seventh in team batting average (.263), second in on-base percentage (.340) and third in slugging percentage (.450). If you’re looking for AL Pennant value, the Indians are looking good as a 5/2 pick to represent the AL in the 2017 World Series.MLB Odds: 5/2Upcoming MLB Schedule
  • September 14-17 vs. Kansas City Royals
  • September 19-21 @ LA Angels
  • September 22-24 @ Seattle Mariners
  • September 26-28 vs. Minnesota Twins
  • September 29-October 1 vs. Chicago White Sox

Boston Red Sox 3/1

When they’re not using apple watches to steal signs, the Boston Red Sox (81-62) have gone 5-5 over their last 10 games while ranking fourth in team ERA (3.70) and second in quality starts (81), although their offense is ranked in the middle third almost across the board. If Boston can get some better hitting as the regular season closes, they could surprise in the playoffs, although this is a team that has clearly missed the offensive contributions of future hall of Famer David ‘Big Papi’ Ortiz after he retired following last season.MLB Odds: 3/1Upcoming MLB Schedule
  • September 15-17 @ Tampa Bay Rays
  • September 18-20 @ Baltimore Orioles
  • September 22-24 @ Cincinnati Reds
  • September 25-27 vs. Toronto Blue Jays
  • September 28-October 1 vs. Houston Astros

Playoff Hopefuls

New York Yankees 9/2

The Yankees (77-65) have gone 7-3 over their last 10 and sit just three games behind Boston in the AL East, but it should also be known that New York has gone an uninspiring 15-24 in one-run games this season. The good news is that the Yankees rank a stellar fifth in team ERA (3.79) and even more impressive second in opponents batting average (.231) while also ranking second in runs scored (755) and third in on-base percentage (.338).MLB Odds: 9/2Are the Yankees a safe bet in the MLB odds to win the AL Pennant?Upcoming MLB Schedule
  • September 14-17 vs. Baltimore Orioles
  • September 18-20 vs. Minnesota Twins
  • September 22-24 @ Toronto Blue Jays
  • September 26-28 vs. Tampa Bay Rays
  • September 29-October 1 vs. Toronto Blue Jays

Los Angeles Angels 16/1

The Halos (73-70) have cooled off a bit recently as they’ve gone a modest 5-5 over their last 10 and sit 13 games behind Houston in the AL West. More bad news comes in the form of L.A. having a difficult nine-game homestand starting on Tuesday against the Astros, Rangers and Indians, teams they’ve gone a combined 11-21 against this season.MLB Odds: 16/1Upcoming MLB Schedule
  • September 15-17 vs. Texas Rangers
  • September 19-21 vs. Cleveland Indians
  • September 22-24 @ Houston Texans
  • September 25-28 @ Chicago White Sox
  • September 29-October 1 vs. Seattle Mariners

Upset Special

Minnesota Twins 20/1

I know Minnesota (74-69) has a tough way to go to reach the playoffs and that they’re just 4-6 over their last 10 games, but for me, Minnesota has shown as much ‘heart’ as any team in baseball this season in compiling a winning record despite not having any real ‘superstars’ carrying them this season. Minnesota is ranked an encouraging ninth in runs scored (705) and identical ninth in on-base percentage (.334). Sure, they’re a longshot, but again, this is team that won’t just roll over – against anyone.MLB Odds: 20/1Upcoming MLB Schedule
  • September 14-17 vs. Toronto Blue Jays
  • September 18-20 @ NY Yankees
  • September 21-24 @ Detroit Tigers
  • September 25-27 @ Cleveland Indians
  • September 29-October 1 vs. Detroit Tigers
