Hawks vs. Knicks | NBA Lines Predictions & Analysis Game

The Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks met in a very entertaining first-round playoff series last year but neither is going to make it to the playoffs this season unless they get hot right now – and it already might be too late. The Hawks are slight favorites on the NBA odds in NYC on Tuesday.

Season Series

This is the final meeting of the season as New York goes for the 4-0 sweep. The teams last played on Jan. 15 in Atlanta and the final was 117-108. RJ Barrett scored 26 points, and Julius Randle added 24. Lou Williams’ jumper pulled Atlanta within four at the 8:35 mark of the fourth and Williams followed over a minute later with a 3 that made it 93-91, but that was as close as the Hawks would get before New York’s Evan Fournier drilled a 3 and hit a layup to push the lead to six. Trae Young led Atlanta with 29 points, and Danilo Gallinari had 17. The Hawks are 2-11 in their last 13 regular-season meetings against New York.

Why Bet on Atlanta?

Atlanta was upset at home by New Orleans on Sunday, 117-112. Clint Capela recorded his 28th double-double of the season in the loss with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Since John Collins’ hit the sidelines due to injury, Capela is averaging 13.4 points and 10.8 rebounds while shooting 62.7 percent.

All-Star Trae Young (quad) double-doubled in his return to action on Sunday, tallying 21 points, 10 assists and five rebounds. He had missed one game with the injury. Young looked rusty, committing four of his seven turnovers within his first eight minutes of play, and he didn’t get his first 3-point shot to fall until after halftime. That said, he didn’t seem at all bothered by the left quad issue, so he should be fine for Tuesday’s game in New York, despite that one being the first of a back-to-back set.

Young has scored 10-or-more points in a career-high 116 straight games. His streak of consecutive games with 10+ points is the fifth-longest such scoring streak in franchise history. Young, who turned 23 on September 19, has 123 career games of 10-or-more assists. Those the third-most such games by any player prior to turning the age of 24.

Bogdan Bogdanovic had broken out of a slump that has plagued him for six games in the win over Memphis last Friday. But he struggled against the Pelicans, going 2-for-9 from downtown. He still managed 11 fourth-quarter points going 4-for-8 from the floor and 0-for-3 from deep but getting to the line for three key free throws. He’s been a fourth-quarter scoring machine for the Hawks since being moved to a bench role ranking 20th in the NBA with 5.9 fourth-quarter points per game. That’s tied with Luka Doncic and is better than James Harden and Young.

The Hawks currently have an offensive rating of 113.1, the best offensive rating in franchise history and No. 2 in the NBA. The just can’t play defense. Collins, the starting power forward, is out indefinitely after tests revealed a plantar fascia tear in his right foot. Danilo Gallinari has been the primary fill-in for Collins. The struggles the Hawks have experienced could be attributed to inconsistent play and injuries to Collins, De’Andre Hunter, Bogdanovic and Kevin Huerter.

Why Bet on New York?

The Knicks come off a 108-93 home loss to the Jazz on Sunday and their playoff hopes are basically dead at this point. Rudy Gobert had nine rebounds and four blocked shots and backup Hassan Whiteside blocked three as the Jazz outrebounded the Knicks 49-37 and swatted 11 shots.

“Our two bigs tonight, what they did is really unique,” Jazz coach Quin Snyder said, noting that Gobert took only one shot in the first half and Whiteside didn’t attempt one all game. “So at halftime, those two guys collectively had one shot and in the halfcourt they’re dominating the game defensively.”

RJ Barrett scored 24 points to go with seven rebounds in the loss. Barrett has been great this month, and entering Sunday, he was averaging 24.1 points per game with 5.9 rebounds, and 4.2 assists through nine games in March. Evan Fournier added 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting.

Julius Randle had an ugly shooting night but still managed to register a double-double, scoring 13 points with 11 rebounds. Randle was 6-of-21 from the floor and 1-of-6 from three on the evening. Over the past three games, he has shot a woeful 17-of-61 from the field. In that time, he has contributed just one steal and one block. There was golden opportunity with the Hawks already losing and the Knicks getting a chance to pull within four games of the play-in slot.

When Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau was asked about Randle’s subpar evening, he answered in general, saying “I thought we fought, but it felt like we were a step behind most of the night.’’

New York is 10th in the NBA in blocks per game at 4.91. It is ninth in the NBA in 3PT FGM at 12.9 per game and 11th in 3PT% at 35.5%. The Knicks are fourth in offensive rebounds per game at 11.5 and third in rebounds per game at 46.6. When Barrett scores 30 or more points the Knicks are 5-3. When the Knicks score 110 points or more they are 14-8.

The Knicks are the only team in the NBA with 4 players who’ve scored 40+ points in a game this season (Barrett, Fournier, Randle & Kemba Walker).
