OKC Thunder vs Dallas Mavericks NBA Spread Preview

Written by on February 23, 2016

The top 5 spots in the Western Conference have remained pretty much the same for a while now, thanks in large part to the fact that the top teams are all basically running away with their divisions. Things are a little more exciting in the bottom half, as the fight seems to be good and on for the final 3 playoff spots. The Dallas Mavericks have been one of the surprise teams in the West, and they are holding on to the #6 spot right now. They can almost certainly feel the chasing pack breathing down their necks, though, and they will need to maintain their winning ways if they want to hold them all off. Their next outing is a tough one, as the #3 Oklahoma City Thunder are heading into town. It’ll be a stern test for the Mavs, and one that is likely to see them installed as the home pro hoops betting underdog.

Why bet on the Oklahoma City Thunder

We are seeing something out of the Thunder (40-16) right now that we haven’t seen since way back in November of last year, which is a 2-game losing streak. They appear to have stumbled out of the gate to start the second half, but given what they have done over the course of the regular season, it’s not a run that we would expect to see extended. They have only lost 3 straight games once this season, and that run came right at the start of the season. The Thunder are and impressive 27-5 against conference opponents, and have also put together a 15-9 road record so far this season, which makes it easy to see why they would be the favorites to win this one. It also helps that they have already won 3 games against the Mavericks this season. OKC are averaging 109.6 PPG, and are giving up 102.1 PPG.

Why bet on the Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks (30-27) continue to hold onto a playoff position in the West in spite of the fact that no-one believed they would be there at this stage of the season. It has been a 16-11 record on home court that has helped Dallas hang in there, and it also helps that they have a winning record against conference opponents. They have not had any luck at all against the Thunder this season, but while they have lost all 3 previous meeting, they kept two of those games within 3 points. Sure, they may not be getting the wins, but they are playing one of the best teams in the league pretty close. The Mavericks are averaging 101.4 PPG, and are giving up 101.8 PPG.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Thunder losing back to back games on home court is pretty surprising, but I would be stunned if they were to see that streak extended to 3. They seem to have the Mavericks number this season, and I like them to complete the sweep. Oklahoma City Thunder 107 Dallas Mavericks 101
