Everyone loves an underdog! In looking at the last seven Super Bowls, the betting underdog has won four of them. Let’s take a quick look at all seven games, and see which of the Super Bowl Betting underdogs took home the Lombardi Trophy.
A Look at the Past 7 Super Bowl Betting Underdogs
Kansas City Chiefs vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+3)
We all know how this one turned out, as Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers dismantled the Kansas City Chiefs. The Tampa Bay defense took away all of Kansas City’s deep routes, and Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense could never make the right adjustments.
The Chiefs were favored by three, and much of the betting money was placed on Kansas City. People should realize by now that you probably shouldn’t bet against Tom Brady.
Kansas City Chiefs vs San Francisco 49ers (+2)
The underdog didn’t fare so well in this one, and the Chiefs had a late rally to beat Kyle Shanahan’s San Francisco 49ers by a score of 31-20.
While many felt that the Niners running game would be able to keep the Chiefs offense off of the field, they were right until later in the game.
New England Patriots vs Los Angeles Rams (+2.5)
The Patriots showed that they had what it takes to slow down one of the league’s best offenses, as Bill Belichick proved to everyone that he was still one of the best defensive minds in the history of the NFL.
The Rams had one of the league’s highest-scoring offenses heading into this one, but New England held them to just three points, winning the Super Bowl by a score of 13-3.
New England Patriots vs Philadelphia Eagles (+4)
There are two quarterbacks you never want to face in the playoffs, Tom Brady and Nick Foles. After Carson Wentz tore his ACL, Nick Foles came on and led the Philadelphia Eagles on an improbable run to the Super Bowl.
Foles and his underdog Eagles outdueled the mighty Tom Brady and the New England Patriots to win the Super Bowl by a score of 41-33.
New England Patriots vs Atlanta Falcons (+3)
This will be forever known as the “28-3” game. After the Atlanta Falcons took a 28-3 lead into halftime, the New England Patriots came out in the second half and outscored Atlanta 31-0 to win the Super Bowl by a score of 34-3. This game helped to solidify Tom Brady’s status as one of the greatest players to ever play the game.
Carolina Panthers vs Denver Broncos (+5)
A failing Peyton Manning led the Denver Broncos over the Carolina Panthers by a score of 24-10.
A five-point spread is a rather large spread for a Super Bowl, but when Peyton Manning was in the shape that he was in, it was totally understandable. Chalk another one up for the dogs.
Seattle Seahawks vs New England Patriots (+1)
This was the Malcolm Butler interception at the goal line game. If that play isn’t made, the Seattle Seahawks win the Super Bowl.
I have read enough, I need to place my bet now. What to do?
