AFC Champions Kansas City Chiefs Betting Insight On their Road to the Super Bowl
Regular Season
In the preseason, the Chiefs were on the board at +1000 to win the Super Bowl, and have now dropped all the way down to +100. While a lot of people expected them to be in this position, you do have to say that it has not been the easiest path to the championship game. Yes, the Chiefs went 14-3 in the regular season, but there were a lot of tight games along the way. Let’s break it all down.
They opened the season strong, blowing out Arizona 44-21 before squeaking past the LA Chargers with a 24-21 win. The Chiefs closed out the opening month of the season with a 20-17 loss to the Colts, which looks way worse now when you consider how poor the Colts ended up being.
They bounced back from that loss by winning their first 2 games in October versus the Buccaneers and Raiders, with their win over Vegas by just a single point. They then lost a close on to Buffalo in a game that a lot of people saw as the AFC Championship Game preview, before bouncing back to blow out the 49ers.
After the bye week, the Chiefs were perfect in the month of November, beating Tennessee, Jacksonville, and both of the LA teams. While the win over the Rams was an easy one, the other 3 games were a good deal tighter, including an OT win over the Titans.
December opened with an OT loss to the Bengals, after which the Chiefs were perfect the rest of the way, winning 5 in a row to close out the season.
Playoffs
Getting the #1 seed proved to be a little controversial, with the suspension of the Bills/Bengals game in Week 17 essentially allowing the Chiefs in through the back door. They opened things up with a closer than expected 27-20 win over Jacksonville, with Patrick Mahomes suffering an ankle injury. While he played through that in the AFC Championship Game, Mahomes looked in pain at times as he led his team to a 23-20 win over the Bengals.
Quick Betting Breakdown
Playoffs included, the Chiefs head into the Super Bowl with a 16-3 record, which included a 7-2 record away from Arrowhead Stadium. They were not a great spread bet, going 8-11 ATS overall and 4-5 ATS on the road. They went 8-11 O/U, but saw 6 of their 9 road games go OVER the point total.
