Betting 2024 NFL Season
The first two weeks of the NFL season will be complete on Monday Night Football, and it has been a fantastic start to the season.
It’s pretty clear that there is a ton of parity in this league as a majority of the games have been extremely tight.
It’s now time to look ahead to the Week 3 matchups, and there are some interesting games on the schedule.
Here is a look at the games that you either want to bet on, or the games that you should avoid.
Writer’s NFL Straight Up Picks for the Third Week of the Season
New England Patriots vs. New York Jets (-6.5)
Thursday, September 19th, 2024
Week 3 of the NFL season will begin with an interesting matchup between AFC East rivals on Thursday Night Football.
Both the New England Patriots and New York Jets are 1-1 on the year, and this will be a great battle.
This is going to be a game that you want to bet on, and taking the New York Jets to cover the spread is going to be the way to go.
Aaron Rodgers and the Jets will set the tone early in this game, and it will be the Jets that do a ton of damage on offense.
NFL Week 3 Pick: New York
Chicago Bears vs. Indianapolis Colts (-2.5)
Sunday, September 22nd, 2024
The 1-1 Chicago Bears visit the 0-2 Indianapolis Colts in Week 3, and there will be two young quarterbacks on the field in this game.
Both teams have struggled to do much on offense this season, and that’s to be expected with young stars at the most important position.
This is going to be a game that you want to avoid when betting as it’s hard to know what will happen in this matchup.
Chicago should win this game, but the Bears haven’t proven enough to fully trust.
NFL Week 3 Pick: Chicago
Houston Texans (-2.5) vs. Minnesota Vikings
Sunday, September 22nd, 2024
The Houston Texans came into the season as one of the favorites to win the AFC, and they have looked the part through the first two games of the year.
Minnesota is also 2-0 heading into Week 3, but they were not expected to be one of the best teams in the league.
At some point the Vikings are going to come back to reality, and this will be the perfect time to jump on the Vikings to suffer a loss.
C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans will have a ton of success on offense in this game as they roll to a 3-0 record.
NFL Week 3 Pick: Houston
Green Bay Packers vs. Tennessee Titans (-2.5)
Sunday, September 22nd, 2024
There are always some interesting betting lines that pop up when looking at the NFL slate of games, and this is one that stands out right away.
The Tennessee Titans have not looked good through two games, but they are slim favorites over the Green Bay Packers.
This is a game that you want to avoid when betting as it’s unclear who will be starting at quarterback for the Packers.
Green Bay should be the better team in this game, but avoiding it is going to be the best option.
NFL Week 3 Pick: Green Bay

Must Bet Games in Week 3 of the 2022-23 NFL Season
2022 NFL Week 3
When: Thursday, Sep. 22 – Sunday, Sep. 25
Las Vegas Raiders at Tennessee Titans
When: Sunday, Sep. 25
The Titans should go off around -3 to -4. Tennessee takes on the Raiders at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. Not only that, but most feel heading into the season, the Titans are the better team.
Thinking that is a mistake. The Raiders hired one of the best play-callers in the NFL in Josh McDaniels. Also, quarterback Derek Carr reconnects with his college teammate, wide receiver Davante Adams. The Raiders can win straight up.
NFL Week 3 Pick: Las Vegas Raiders
Kansas City Chiefs at Indianapolis Colts
When: Sunday, Sep. 25
Kansas City has a brutal early schedule. The Chiefs start the season at Arizona in week 1. Then in their second game, KC hosts the Los Angeles Chargers.
By the time the Chiefs head to Indianapolis, Kansas City’s defense could be too gassed to keep up with Matt Ryan, Jonathan Taylor, and the Colts’ offense. Indy wins.
NFL Week 3 Pick: Indianapolis Colts
Buffalo Bills at Miami Dolphins
When: Sunday, Sep. 25
No doubt, Buffalo will be one of the teams to beat to win the Super Bowl. But this is a road game versus a strong Miami team that has improved big time from last season.
Mike McDaniel is a terrific coach. He will call plays that gives Tua Tagovailoa a chance to succeed. The Dolphins aren’t as good as the Bills on paper. But the fact this happens at Hard Rock Stadium makes all the difference.
NFL Week 3 Pick: Miami Dolphins
Baltimore Ravens at New England Patriots
When: Sunday, Sep. 25
Baltimore looks like the better team. But the Ravens may not be as effective on defense as so many believe they will be.
Almost as important? Mac Jones should improve from his second season to his first. Jones has the makings of an all-pro quarterback.
Bill Belichick doesn’t appear nervous even though Josh McDaniel took the head coach position with the Raiders. Expect the Patriots’ defense to contain Baltimore’s rushing attack. The home team wins.
NFL Week 3 Pick: New England Patriots
Green Bay Packers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
When: Sunday, Sep. 25
It’s difficult to know how effective Green Bay’s offense will be now that Davante Adams calls Las Vegas home. But even if Green Bay doesn’t average as many points as they did with Adams, quarterback Aaron Rodgers will find a way to make the Packers contenders.
Tom Brady, like Rodgers, will make his team a contender. But Brady doesn’t play defense and heading into the season, the Packers’ D looks slightly better than Tampa’s. Green Bay gets the moneyline nod.
NFL Week 3 Pick: Green Bay Packers
San Francisco 49ers at Denver Broncos
When: Sunday, Sep. 25
No matter who plays quarterback, San Francisco will be a good football team. But the 49ers face a tall task beating the Broncos in Denver.
Denver has one of the best wide receiver units in the league. Russell Wilson should have a ton of success this season. The Broncos’ defense is also a very good unit. Denver wins and covers.
NFL Week 3 Pick: Denver Broncos

Week 4 NFL Betting Prep: Biggest Takeaways from Week 3
Previous Betting News
Week 3 of the 2015/16 NFL season is in the books, and apart from a few surprises in terms of injuries and tactical changes by some teams, pretty much everything went as predicted in the NFL betting odds. In preparation for betting in Week 4’s games, here is a succinct look at the biggest takeaways from Week 3.
Injuries Keep on Piling Up
After the injury bug claimed big names like Tony Romo, Jay Cutler and Bryan Bulaga in Week 2, the third week was equally busy with its share of injuries. Some of the notable injuries from the week included QB Ben Roethlisberger, RB Marshawn Lynch and G Andrew Gardner, along with other minor injuries for players like CB Darrelle Revis, TE Vernon Davis and WR Sammy Watkins. At this rate, there’ll be need for more protection for the team’s key players (especially the QBs), with the league also imposing heavier fines and penalties for the offenders to curb the escalating cases of injuries. You can find a summary of some of the major Week 3 injuries here.
Notes on the 7 Undefeated Teams
Three weeks into the season, the New England Patriots, Cincinnati Bengals, Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons and the Arizona Cardinals are the 7 teams yet to lose games, each boasting of a 3-0 record.
Having finished without a team without a winning record in 2014, it is worth noting that the NFC South currently has two teams with 100% winning records (Panthers and Falcons). Interestingly, no other division in the league has more than one team with a 3-0 mark so far.
It is also noteworthy that the Patriots and Packers look well on course to finish as the best teams in their respective conferences. However, the Broncos and Cardinals look to be in a strong mix for the best conference marks. Arizona is particularly looking extremely good on both ends of the field—something Green Bay and other NFC teams will need to be wary of.
Oh, and of these undefeated teams, only the Patriots are guaranteed to enter next week with an unbeaten record since New England will be on a bye in Week 4.
Notes on the 4 Winless Teams
A good number of winless teams from Week 2 fought hard to record their first wins of the season, including the Eagles and Colts. Essentially, this means that the Detroit Lions, New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears and Baltimore Ravens are the four teams that currently sport 0-3 records.
With a trip to Seattle next Monday night and a Week 5 encounter against Arizona in Week 5, the Lions will need to fight real hard or else they could be on for a 0-5 start in the 2015 NFL betting lines and odds.
Hosting the Cowboys in Week 2 and traveling to Philadelphia in Week 5 means that the Saints also have to play well or they could be facing a similar predicament like Detroit.
The Ravens are expected to do well in their road game against the Steelers this Thursday and are placed as slight betting favorites over Pittsburgh; something makes sense going by the absence of Big Ben in Pittsburgh’s squad. That said, Pittsburgh’s backup QB Michael Vick will want to prove his critics wrong, so don’t count the win for Baltimore just yet. You’d probably be better off banking on the Ravens to get their first win when they host the Browns in Week 5.
The Bears have a lifeline with a game against the Raiders this Week, but a win is not guaranteed for them, going by the way Oakland gave a commendable performance in the road win over Cleveland in Week 2.
All Squared in the AFC South
All the teams in the AFC South division (Colts, Jaguars, Texans and Titans) are tied up at 1-2 so far for the season, with the only difference coming in the area of point differential.
Top QB Performers in the League
It has been a remarkable whirlwind of events over the first three weeks and we could go on and on about the standout performers in the NFL. But considering the QB position is arguably the most important of all, we’ll simply focus on mentioning the best quarterback performers so far in the league. Through the three weeks, here are the QBs who are impressing most:
• Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay): 771 passing yards, 10 TDs, 0 interceptions and 135.4 RTG
• Tom Brady (New England 1,112 passing yards, 8 TDs, 0 interceptions and 119.6 RTG
• Carson Palmer (Arizona): 803 passing yards, 9 TDs, 2 interceptions and 117.8 RTG
Aloha! Marcus Mariota!
I actually thought about including Mariota in the list above, but decided to have his name separately for purposes of trumpeting his praises in a special way. Seriously, this kid is darn good. Despite recording a pick-six against the Colts last week (which was in fact caused by Josh Evans who jarred the ball loose from Delanie Walker), the rookie QB once again impressed against the Colts, completing 61.4 of his passes for 367 yards and 2 TDs. His two scores allowed him to join Jay Cutler and Mark Rypien as the only quarterbacks in the Super Bowl era to start their NFL careers with multiple touchdown passes in three consecutive games.
For the season so far, Mariota has racked up 833 passing yards, 8 TDs, 2 interceptions and 109.2 RTG. If he can continue with his solid performances, we could easily see Mariota winning this year’s offensive rookie of the year award.

Top 2022 NFL Week 3 Games to Wager On: TNF, SNF, and MNF Matches Betting Picks

NFL Week 3 Betting Rundown for the Best TNF, SNF, MNF Games of the 2022-23 Season
2022 NFL Week 3
Pittsburgh Steelers at Cleveland Browns -4.5 | Thursday, Sep. 22
Cleveland looked to be on their way to a 2-0 record before imploding versus the New York Jets. Any team that loses to the New York Jets shouldn’t offer odds anywhere close to -4.5. Pittsburgh should win this straight up.
NFL Week 3 Pick: Pittsburgh Steelers +4.5
New Orleans Saints -3 at Carolina Panthers | Sunday, Sep. 25
New Orleans looked like they were about to take a 10-3 lead over the rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers before running back Mark Ingram fumbled inside the Bucs’ ten yard line.
Carolina always plays the Saints tough. But given the way New Orleans’ last game ended, the Saints are a solid play to cover. Back the Big Easy.
NFL Week 3 Pick: New Orleans Saints -3
Houston Texans at Chicago Bears -2.5 | Sunday, Sep. 25
It’s difficult to understand why Chicago is the chalk. The Bears played well against San Francisco in the first week, but Chicago failed to amass 210 total yards.
Houston showed in the 9-16 loss to the Denver Broncos in week 2 that they can hang with any squad not named Buffalo, Kansas City, or Tampa Bay. The Texans can win this straight up.
NFL Week 3 Pick: Houston Texans
Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings -7 | Sunday, Sep. 25
Detroit heads to Minnesota playing excellent football. After almost pulling off an upset win against the Eagles in their first game, Detroit blasted the Washington Commanders in their second.
Minnesota failed versus the Eagles in NFL Week 2. But in NFL Week 1, the Vikings beat the rival Green Bay Packers. Minnesota has the better defense, but giving 7 points to Jared Goff and Detroit’s high-powered offense is too much.
NFL Week 3 Pick: Detroit Lions +7
Las Vegas Raiders -1 at Tennessee Titans | Sunday, Sep. 25
A couple of 0-2 teams clash on Sunday when the Titans host the Raiders. On paper, Las Vegas looks like the better team, but Vegas’ offensive line is in shambles.
Tennessee will get Derrick Henry going in this. Henry should dominate the Raiders’ defense while Vegas quarterback Derek Carr will once again have to improvise on most plays after the protection breaks down.
NFL Week 3 Pick: Tennessee Titans +1
Los Angeles Rams -4 at Arizona Cardinals | Sunday, Sep. 25
The Rams played great against the Atlanta Falcons for about a half. Then, things started going south for L.A. So much so that the Rams again failed to cover a spread.
Kyler Murray lived up to the gargantuan contract he signed during the offseason by rallying the Cards to an incredible win versus the Raiders. Murray and the Cardinals may have turned the corner with. The Rams should lose this on the money line. So taking the points makes sense.
NFL Week 3 Pick: Arizona Cardinals +4
NFL Sunday Night Football: San Francisco 49ers -1 at Denver Broncos | Sunday, Sep. 25
The Broncos host San Francisco on Sunday night in what should be an excellent game. The Niners will start Jimmy G. now that Trey Lance is out due to an ankle injury.
In a lot of ways, Garoppolo gives the 49ers a better chance to beat Denver. The Broncos grabbed their first win in a game against the Houston Texans. Denver hasn’t played well in 2 contests, but this happens at Mile High. Give the Broncos the edge.
NFL Week 3 Pick: Denver Broncos +1
Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants -2.5 | Monday, Sep. 26
This line makes no sense. The New York Giants upset the Tennessee Titans on the road in NFL Week 1 and then beat the Panthers in their second game.
Sure, Cooper Rush rallied the Cowboys to a win against the Bengals in Dallas’ second matchup. But Cincinnati isn’t playing like the same team that went to the Super Bowl last season.
The Giants should be -3.5 not -2.5. NYG wins and covers.
NFL Week 3 Pick: New York Giants -2.5
