If you’re looking for some NFL expert picks that could help you strike pay dirt on both conference title tilts, then let’s get started.
Winning Predictions For 2017 NFL Conference Championship Round
Green Bay (12-6) at Atlanta (12-5)When: 3:05 PM ET, Sunday, January 22, 2017
Where: Georgia Dome, Atlanta, Georgia
Spread: Falcons -4
Moneyline: Green By +170 at Atlanta -185 / Game Total: 60
The Falcons and Packers can both put points on the board in a hurry, but for me, it is Atlanta that has a date with destiny this season, making the Falcons my pick to bet the Pack this coming weekend.
The Atlanta Falcons beat the Packers 33-32 in a thriller in October and I expect this affair to turn out nearly identical to the first meeting between these NFC rivals this season on both, the SU and ATS fronts. 65 percent of the betting public likes Aaron Rodgers and the Packers to cover the spread as 4-point underdogs and I believe that’s the right call even though I’m picking the Falcons to record the narrow SU win at home.
The Packers are 4-0 ATS in their last four playoff road games and an encouraging 4-1 ATS in their last five Conference Championships games overall. Conversely, while the Falcons are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games following a straight up win, Atlanta is also just 2-5 ATS in their last seven home playoff games.
The road team in this rivalry has gone 5-0 ATS in their last five meetings while the Underdog has gone 8-2 ATS in their last 10 meetings. Atlanta wins a thriller, but the Packers are my pick to narrowly cover the ATS spread.
Pick: Atlanta 38 Green Bay 35
Pittsburgh Steelers (13-5) at New England Patriots (15-2)When: Sunday, January 22, 2017 at 6:40 PM ET
Where: Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, Massachusetts
Line: New England -6 / Total: 50.5
Pittsburgh had their hands completely full in dispatching the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night while New England stomped the life out of Brock Osweiler and the Houston Texans in their AFC divisional date. Still, the Steelers are the easy pick to cover the spread against New England when they meet in the AFC title game this coming weekend even though I don’t see Pittsburgh pulling off the outright upset.
56 percent of the betting public likes Pittsburgh to cover the spread as a 6-point road underdog and I say that’s the right call, even though I’m bit stunned that more NFL betting enthusiasts aren’t jumping all over the Steelers right now. Pittsburgh has gone 5-0 ATS in their last five road games and a consistent 13-3-3 ATS in their last 19 games in the month of January.
While New England has gone 4-1 ATS in their last 5 playoff games, the Patriots are also just 1-6 ATS in their last seven Conference Championships games. New England doesn’t have the most explosive offense around and the way the Steelers can score the ball, I’m basically picking Pittsburgh to keep the final score close.
While the Steelers are just 4-11 ATS in their last 15 meetings against the Pats, the Underdog in this AFC rivalry has gone 10-4 ATS in their last 14 meetings. The spread for this matchup should be much closer to three points than the nearly touchdown figure it currently sits at.
Pick: New England 24 Pittsburgh 21
